Just a couple of comments: alumni and non-alumni (lots of them) who buy season tickets can't look at this move and say the students got shafted or got a good deal...we simply don't know...and none of us will until we actually see how it turns out. In fact, not even the students on this board really know if it is a really bad deal (given the needs for revenue -- and anybody who reads any part of this board's comments know how SDSU stacks up with athletic revenue needs in trying to make it in D-1) or a not-so-bad or break-even deal.

I do know the students were involved (not a token involvement) and I believe el-presidente in an earlier post did the best job I have seen of explaining the realities in student support of the decision. I also know that end-bleacher seating is the norm in D-1 (sure there are some exceptions). It has been stated numerous times that the upper level will come next, once an indoor practice facility (with track) is available.

Success of the men's program, joining the success of the women's program, has led to a full-fledged growth of pride of students AND alumni for SDSU. I can guarantee you that alumni across the country (whether they were fans or not as students) are wearing the yellow and blue more proudly now than when their alma mater was a D-2 school. Which leads to my final two-bits: 1) Support is there to make a move for more favorable numbers of season ticket holder seats NOW (not several years from now)...this season. It WILL benefit the program. 2) Students who are now in school, will in the years that follow, enjoy the benefits of having a D-1 institution as their alma mater. D-1 is not just athletics...but it gets a huge amount of market publicity for graduates of the school.

I won't criticize students who are upset or mad...I've seen very few moves that don't have two sides to the issue. It is going to happen, though, and all of us will have to wait and see how it turns out.
Thanks Jack#1Fan, as usual you bring rational thoughts to this thread. I would agree there are two sides to every issue. I dont know what the student enrollment is at K-State, but I attended a game in the late 1980's, and they were playing Minnesota and Coach Clem Haskins. I came early and thought I had a good end zone seat, only to have the place fill up and students everywhere and standing so what did I have to do but stand also, and sit down during the time outs. I suspect there were at least 7,000 students at the game. Considering their fall 2011 enrollment was little over 23,000, I am guessing it might have been in the neighborhood of 17000 in 1989, that is about 40-45 per cent attendence. I like nothing better than to see 40 percent student attendence at Frost. This would really create the kind of problems for AD Sell that he would love to solve and Frost would be a very tough place to play.

Here is a seating chart of Big Ten schools made by @SummitMadness....Only two schools put students on opposites ends of the court

Only one school in the B1G has a student seating chart like the one we're going to get, it is also probably the worst basketball school in that conference other than Penn State.

Nebraska also has the same kind of seating that SDSU is going to put the students in...

I guess now to add my quick opinion...

To start off I am a student who probably attends half of the home baseketball games....

I understand, and am for moving students under the basket at some point in the future, but under a few conditions...
          1) For the students to sit under the basket, the bleachers must start on the floor, not elevated like they are now.

          2) It needs too be set up so the student section is one continuos student body, not 2 separate ones on each end of the floor.

          3) This really isn't something that needs to happen, but more a statement.... why did they wait to do it during finals week and at the end of the year when students, even pretty regular attendees like me, couldn't give a flying rip due to studying and summertime? Why didn't they make this a more public issue for the student body....Students had no idea the Athletic Dept was going to do this.

----I do, however, understand all of the financials and what Sell is thinking.

The one big complaint I have had with Frost as an Arena, was the seating behind the baskets. It didn't look good on TV, especially when they were 1/3 full even during good games and it didn't really add much to the environment. I do hope this changes, I don't think they will be able to go right to the floor, but I think they could get closer to the floor. I don't know how close with the baskets or if they can go around them, but I hope they can.

I was in Frost a few minutes ago. The bleachers are completely gone as are the seats on the fans side. The risers on the fans side are still there and I assume they will remain with the new seats placed on them. Most of the seats have been removed from the risers on the ends as well. At the rate this is progressing less than one week after graduation was held there, I imagine the project will be completed very quickly. It will be interesting to see what the new set up looks like.

I am hearing it will be late august before completion. Equipment (chairs) have been ordered but a 6+ week delivery time plus installation. 430 seats will be on the south side. It will be interesting just where the pep band goes?

End results - excellent upgrade to Frost.

Got the call yesterday explaining the allocation for the new seating. After discussion with the family we are likely going to stay put. The view would be a lot better but with young children the convenience of the restrooms and concessions will win out for now.

I am concerned about the affect on the atmosphere in the building. I long for the raucous and rowdy crowds I first encountered in the early 80's and then participated in regularly during the 90's. I guess we'll see what its like when the season rolls around.

                            I don't know that.

Right now we are in the upper level in the center right near the stairs. The view of the court is great and the concessions and restroom are right there. When the kids get older and are distracted by other interests we intend to move down to the lower level. If the kids come with they can sit in GA.

I doubt they will reopen the south concessions, my understanding is that the seating will still load from the top with no access to the floor...

Not cool. That will be a nightmare for reserved seats on the south side.
