    Re: Western Michigan

I'm interested to see how Prince does when he gets comfortable. He is obviously a strong young man and strikes me as a scrapper. Coach Nagy seems determined to work him in.

The other interesting thing to me was how comfortable Horstman seemed out there.
    Holy nutmeg!

Dykstra was on crutches....he told me it was a slight fracture. Not enough to keep him out of the Gophers game. Just keeping off it as much as possible. He is a HUGE part of this team and for anyone to be down on him is unfounded. He can play on my team anytime.

Some comments about the game: We were very fortuneate that the Broncos missed several key free throws.

The officials - absolutely brutal. Stainbrook really exposed a weakness of the Jacks and that is we cannot defend a big man inside. He doubled his career best with his 32 points. Marcus needs to step up here and help us defend future post play.

We have some quality depth which well pay off all year but specifically late in the season.

Wolters is certainly the man. He can do it all.

I'm with RO on this, guy is injured. plays through it and idiots keep harping on it. My former post was sarcasm directed at those idiots, but maybe it wasn't direct enough. It was the first game. He sprained/tweaked his knee/ankle. Dykstra will be just fine, what we should be worried is if his injury bars him from playing on a tough road stretch. I think this is a very winnable game against Minn. this year, hopefully he clan play, but he might still be "winded" so hopefully he gets a good night sleep. Just goes to show stupid these fanboards are and how important it is for coaches to kee p their players off of them. I echo "I hate people".

I'm with Chains...a heck of a lot of bashing on Jordan which was uncalled for. He was with the trainer for more than 15 minutes after he hurt his foot and before he emerged to try to play again on it. He fractured a bone on his foot, and was told to stay off of it and let the swelling go down. Anybody who questions Dysktra's physical condition (winded...come on... the only winded player on the floor last night was Stainbrook, and he still got 32 points) is off base. When Jordan came into the game, he instantly changed the defense, as he was the only guy that could physically keep Stainbrook occupied, but he only got three or four trips down the floor before injuring his foot. He says he will be ready to go Monday and I hope he can do it as we will definitely need him with Mbakwe's physical play. Am excited to get up to the Cities for the game!

WMU was a 21 win team last year that was projected to win their conference this year as they returned all 5 of their starters. Jacks also lost by 3 to them last year. Great first win by the jacks.

I respectfully disagree. The foot injury definitely hampered him. His conditioning is an issue and thats okay, he understands it and is working to improve it. He had a bad game on the defensive end as a consequence of both. He made a several really bad decisions on the offensive end as a consequence of both. He recognized that is wasn't his best effort.

I see no harm in questioning effort on the defensive end, Jordan included. There were several instances where he and others did not get back into position on defense and on the boards. Rebounding is largely about effort and when undersized it becomes all about effort. Yesterday there was a lack of hustle and effort on defense and that included Jordan. Just because a fan is critical of that doesn't make them a "hater". Its damn hard to go 100% all the time especially when your hurt. There is no harm in expecting the best from a player or team.

Any concern about the effort yesterday is legitimate, to assume the same will occure going forward is not. It was one game. There were a great number of positives and a few negatives, a couple glaring ones in Jordan and Chad White's performances. The team stepped up and one a big game. I thought the crowd did a nice job as well.

Looking forward to a fun season, wish we had more home games I could attend.

We all got to sleep on it and feel better today. I was having a few flashbacks yesterday. You might be too young to remember Matt Jones who was as good a freshman frontcourt player as any at SDSU. He made a difference on both ends of the court and was going to be the next Mark Tetzlaff. Well, something happened and his basketball career fizzled.

I was so pumped to see Jordan get on the floor and hit that first shot and then things kind of fizzled. I think that happened to a bunch of people. One of the best things about BB, you get to play again tomorrow.

I listened to the football game yesterday so did not see much of the BB on Jump, but lets all hope that Dykstra can make it back Monday and his conditioning issues will be cured in time. I think we are starting to get too demanding. Conditioning is a big time issue for myself and probalby 95 per cen of those posting on the board so maybe all the SA are not in the 5%, is that a big deal?. Lets give Jordan some slack. He has a bad ankle and needs to recover. So of our guys really give of themselves, such as Sumner who took IV's on Friday night in order to fight off the flu for one more day.

Interesting reference to Matt Jones, but I personally can't use his case to bring worry over Dykstra's first game performance.

Matt Jones's career was cut short not due to lack of effort, plateauing of talent, or even injury, but rather a freak occurrence of coming down with Lime Disease. Really a sad deal, as he was as talented as we've had in a Jackrabbit uniform.

As long as we keep Jordan out of the woods and away from ticks, I think he'll fine (light hearted jab that's not meant to offend in anyway)

Nope, I remember Matt Jones. I went to essentially every USD basketball game from birth to high school graduation.

I wasn't trying to directly compare the two. Just referencing one of my thoughts. We could have an extended conversation about why Matt Jones' career as a college BB ended and the possibility of Lyme disease would only be a small part of it. Matt is a great person from great family and he is doing well in life.

I expect the same for Jordan and Chad White. A little concern, criticism regarding their performance in 1 game isn't going to harm them.

I don't like the sound of a "minor fracture" for Djkstra. Hope they (and he) doesn't try to come back too soon--I'd personally go without his services for a few games early in the year rather than have him struggle through an entire year hobbled by that kind of injury. It's a long season . . . just want him, the coaches, and the trainers to be smart, is all . . .
