    Re: Western Michigan

I noticed a slight/noticeable limp walking off the bench to huddles during timeouts. IMO White looked worse than Dykstra and Horstman and Carylson looked good I thought

Nagy explicitly said he injured his ankle in the first half.

Dykstra tore things up at the end of the last year. One bad game (which he played through injured) against a very good team? Jesus.

I appeciated Dykstra's willingness to re-engage the enemy even though it was clear he was in pain and hampered by the ankle. The guy's a warrior and I'm confident we'll see some greatness from him this year.

I think what people are concerned about RO is his conditioning. It was an issue last year and it certainly looked to be an issue vs. Moorhead. Dykstra himself has tweeted about disappointment in himself during pre-season conditioning drills, so it may be a valid concern.

          Sept 2 tweet:
Not how I wanted to start the conditioning season. Let too many ppl down. Guess I know what I'll be doing this next week to prepare.

Just a few observations I made. We have a pretty descent bench. The bench outscored WMU 17 to 4. The bench also held an 11 to 5 rebounding edge.

I also was impressed with Horstman, for being his first game, he looked very comfortable and did some good things. I also like what I saw from Heemstra.

think you meant decent bench, not one in descent

I thought Tony Fiegen had a great game going against a much taller defender most of the game. I was also impressed with brayden carlsons perimeter shooting, but we left a lot of points on the court by missed open three pointers. If we hit half of the open looks we had we would have had blown them out of the building, but I think those shots will fall in time and they will need to fall if we are going to win on the road over the next eight games.

                  Re: Western Michigan

Dykstra tweaked his right knee or ankle early in the game. A trainer appeared to work with for several minutes during the first half. Dykstra seemed to be in pain, more than winded in the few minutes that he played. He limped noticeably. Of course, WMU's bulky, 6-9 post was winded all the the time, but he had great touch and put up 32 points. Prince tweaked a leg late in the game, too, and two Jacks fouled out. (White and Carlson?) So the bench was thin late in the game. Good thing it didn't go OT. Wolters was awesome, and Fiegen was very good. Callahan and Carlson did well. So did Heemstra and Horstman. I expect we'll see better days from White in the future. Monaghan didn't play.

Cool, but it doesn't bother me. He's a stud and he'll be fine.

                        Re: Western Michigan

Dykstra at the volleyball game, on crutches, no shoe on one foot...looks like an ankle sprain and he's just staying off it this evening. (Needs bigger crutches if this is going to be an extended thing!) Don't know anything about the injury or what impact it'll have on Monday at Minnesota.

I can't believe how many people are down on Dykstra. On here and on Twitter. People questioning his desire and hustle? GTFO. What a joke. Did anyone watch last year? He got better and better as the year went on. But he doesn't want it? I hate people.

The first is a Q&A with a MAC conference blogger about WMU and what to expect from them. This is from the Summit Madness blog. If you have not read this blog about the Summit League, you need to. It has a lot of information about all of the teams from the Summit League. It also appears that the blog is updated every day, so it has fresh content.

That link doesn't work for me. What was the word on WMU this year? It was a good win for you guys, congrats, but was wondering how much cred the Summit as a whole will get from this win?

                              Re: Western Michigan

Dykstra will be fine, not worried one bit.

Very excited about the progress Fiegen has made, can't say enough about him.

Heemstra had his moments when he played, but once again, just need a little more consistency and not following up a good play with a bad one. I think by about midseason he'll start coming on strong and, in turn, playing more minutes.

Carlson is a nice surprise out there as well. He's the role player we need and he'll stuff the stat sheet on a nightly basis.

White has played pretty awful on offense in the exhibition and the first game, but I'm not worried about him either.

This team has a lot of players with the ability to step up on any given night. Wolters will be there almost every night, but there are plenty of options out there to help him out, though it might not always be the same person(s) every night.
If you think nobody cares about you, try missing a couple of payments.
