Are they concerned about fan or player safety or both equally in making those changes? As a student, sitting behind the media row just felt like they took away something special that the students have. The wood was broken and worn and needed to be replaced, so I understand changing them. I feel they were changed to look better then to provide actual user friendly function.
I'm speaking about the end bleachers. The seats were to close to the end lines. If you remember Frost had hanging baskets and the bleachers were very close. I believe DI rules required the current configuration as it pertains to distance from the baseline.

The sidelines were reconfigured to allow premium seating opposite the players and scorers table. The student side then needed to be modified to accommodate the moving of the scorers table and media from on high to floor level. All of these changes screwed up the sight lines in the upper level.

All that said, 6000 people packing the place and cheering the Jackrabbits on to victory is still a very realistic goal. However, the athletic department is charged with finding a way to maintain revenue when times are tougher and the place ain't packed. The way you do that is by selling season tickets and the way you do that is with comfortable seats with a good view. I own 9 season tickets and I can only make it to 4-5 home games per year. My seats get filled, often by someone who bought a GA ticket, and SDSU always gets my cash. In addition, my kids are Junior Jacks so they don't even need a season ticket but they need a seat. More money for SDSU.

Quick question: How much are season tickets for basketball and for football?

I think basketball, both men and women together, were roughly $300. FB season tickets were $100 this year. I gift some of the BB season tickets and receive compensation for some as well. For me, it's worth it to have good reserved seats for my family and close parking. With young kids those things are worth a lot to me. Now, as my kids get busier with their own activities and I have less time to dedicate to attending Jackrabbit athletic events, I may have to let some seats go.

I think the current seating arrangement on the baseline hides the cheerleaders and dance team. Realistically, they can only motivate the people the are standing in front of. Where they are located on the baselines, the are below the sightlines for the crowd they most directly influence.

I'll say it.....there needs to be a geriatric section. Somewhere to put the coffindodgers and AARP members who can't stand, and yell at me when I am up screaming my lungs out.
There I said it. it wasn't appropriate...it wasn't PC, but dammit it was the truth and I feel better. Put the wheelchairs in a corner and the people who are going to cheer down low to get these crowds going. I'm tired of this re-occurring subject, I'm tired of being told to sit down and be quiet at sporting events. It really has caused me to rethink my attendance every time I think of going.

It seems like they already did this for football games, at least a couple people who were very over the top in rows behind me (not enthusiastic cheerers, more the annoying pondsbison type) the last few years are now somehow in the first few rows. Maybe they gave more money, maybe there were enough complaints to get them front row seats to the action.

                Re: Crowd

I agree with pretty much everything already stated in this thread.

Crowd is terrible. I've often thought during postgame comments, when the players commend the crowd that they really must be biting their tongue when they say that, because most of the time, the crowd had been terrible.

As for the sight lines behind the students, I learned real fast that you have to sit at least half way up if not 2/3's the way up to see over them. It's never been a big deal though, I typically get there early enough to get my same spot everytime. 2/3's the way up, 40 yard line at the aisle.

I stand, I cheer, I piss and moan (tastefully).

I've seen numerous times when the cheerleader (male and female) have thrown a shirt, only for it to land on the court. It really is a sight.

Even though I am a soon-to-be coffindodger, I must say this comment made me laugh.

You're only as a coffindodger if you act like one, JJ! I don't believe for one second that the fans on this site are non-participatory.

Maybe serving alcohol in Frost would increase revenue and get the crowd louder?
