Don't particularly like the guy...but I'm not going to disagree with anything that he writes in his column on this one.

I'm fairly certain 3300 people couldn't be LESS into a game. It's was embarrassing to say the least. It's no wonder this team plays better on the road...I would too.
On the way back, someone in the car brought up writing a letter to the editor on how pathetic our student section is(IMO the whole crowd is/was patethic)...well hopefully Stu did it for us...but I'm sure it won't help.

Maybe I've given our fanbase too much "hollow" credit the past 4 years...maybe we're not ready for D-1...maybe we're just ready for NDSU and USD games, or maybe we should do the t-shirt toss DURING play, we sure seem to get loud for that. You all do realized they're $3 t-shirts, right??

If I could give you (propar80) 6 gajillion rep points I would! Absolutely astonishing that grown men/women jump around, get loud and actually get a little stupid over a t-shirt toss and at the same time won't so much as stand up and clap during 'game' action. Heck if you stand up you are bound to get dirty looks and told to sit down. It is embarrassing. We have zero home court advantage and if anyone says that the crowd can't make a difference...well, they are just flat wrong.

I don't even stand up when they come out with the shirts.

I'm one of about 4 people that stands up when we hit a big shot, make a great defensive stop or when a timeout is called by the opposing team to stop a Jackrabbit run. It's pitiful and sad and I don't know what we can do about it but I hope someone can figure something out.

I HATE the stand-up-and-beg type of promotions like t-shirt tosses. I'd much rather save my energy for the game.

And the fact that the cheerleaders and dance team members can't throw the t-shirts past the first few rows.

Seems like they have invested in a cannon type weapon to get them up in the higher rows, but I am with Filbert, t shirts giveaways seem to have zero affect on attendance. I doubt you find many who come just for a free t shirt.

I personally feel the changes in the bleachers behind the baskets and student sections really affected the game feel. Moved students up and way from the court, now they stand and get yelled at by people who cant see behind them, the baskets on the side are not as good court view as they were before. removing seats from the court level was the worst Idea. WE needed new bleachers for sure, but they look nicer then they actually are helpful.

I can't think of one other D-1 arena that allows the students to practically stand on the playing surface, like used to be the case at Frost. It's a liability nightmare and not a solution IMO.
IMO this isn't an excuse for fans to be completely comatose against the best team in the Summit and one of the better mid-major teams in the country. I have a feeling if some of the students were allowed to be that close to the floor, they'd probably lay down and take a nap on it.

I was there last night and it was pretty quiet. The little cheerleaders they had as the halftime show got the loudest cheering of the night. I think I've heard this from someone before but it holds true; SDSU fans are reacative not proactive. If you want a D1 homecourt advantage we need to change that. Gotta say our 50+ Augieholics that show up to every Augie home game (and many travel to road games) are as loud or louder than the 3200 at Frost last night and this isn't me gloating this is just a fact and for the record I'm a fan of both teams.

They really need to raise the south upper stands so that the student section can stand without (too badly) interrupting the sight lines of those upstairs . . . that needs to be towards the top of any Frost Arena upgrade list . . .

I'd also like to see them angle the ends of the upstairs seating--south, east and west all three--so that the lower corners that are currently obstructed-view seating go away (and could, potentially, at some point be filled in to create a 3/4 continuous bowl upstairs).

Also, I'd turn the east end lower seating, next to the visitor's bench, back into student/general admission seating and put the band over there (If it's good enough for Oakland . . .), and put all of those hordes of season ticket holders who've bought those end line seats down on the other end. (Yes, that's sarcasm. I'm sick and tired of seeing those seats be half-full or less almost every game.)

I think the loss(es) to NDSU totally took the air out of SDSU fans this year. If the guys had won that game I think things would be much, much different.

Duke, Maryland, I know we are not them, but many schools like having students in the action. I was a student when D-2 at the end going to D-1, I will attest, the amount of heckling the students got for standing and cheering from people behind the students reallt bugged students, many felt like it was a waste to go and sit becuse you stand, you get yelled at. The changed the bleachers so they are higher up causing even more problems for people behind the students, and it only makes the problem worse. Put that with a losing mens team for several years and yeah, thats a hard thing to bring back. It was an advantage SDSU had and lost it when changed the bleachers.

The students really aren't in a bad spot. They were heckling Kampe and Hudson all night last night. It is nice to have them right on top of the benches.

That being said, too many of the students (and other fans) are sitting on their hands for most of the game. I literally get goosebumps when Frost reaches the sound level that it can and it did get loud a few times. Propar hit it; the house couldn't be any quieter.

I'm just venting and beating a dead horse I know. I don't know what the solution is either.

Fairly certain Duke and Maryland's student section is behind the player and scorer's table, not right on the floor like Frost used to be.
I would have to agree with Filbert that the NDSU game and games over the past 4-5 year have not helped in the least.
On a positive note(which I have not been lately in regards to SDSU, I do realize this)...it was nice to see the student section full and 3200 people there for a Thursday night game. Just time to take the next step, IMO.

Not only all the NDSU games, but how many other heart-breakers have we lost in the last 5 years. That takes its toll on a skeptical fan base.

I also agree with a lot of the other comments about seating arrangements in Frost. I think at some point, the students should be moved to the end sections and the right behind the opponents bench. Students could really wreak havoc feeding off each other on opposite ends of the court.

Make the rest of the lower level general admission to let regular folks sit close to the action and get excited about SDSU basketball again.
