    Re: Best Case/Worst Case Scenarios

Do you guys really think I care about reputation points? I care about the prgram. I dont think Nagy related to players well in D II. he bullied them there but was able to get away with at a lower level. Players at the Div I level, especially from out of state, have options and wont put up with it as much.

If Coach Nagy didn't relate to the players in DII and now DI, why are the players coming here?
Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!--Bluto--

rabbit boy - I don't think you are a Jacks fan but instead are here to stir up trouble. But I'll bite. If you will actually look at it objectively I will email you a note sent to me from a Jacks former player talking about how well Nagy related to him and other players. Interested?

It is amazing that I don't even have to read certain comments from posters to know that they are clueless.

But, on the team this season I think that the 4 games in Canada will really turn out to be a blessing.

I think rabbit boy suffers one of two conditions...

              1) NDS or "Nagy Derangement Syndrome": Any mention of the SDSU Men's basketball coach sends rabbit boy into a foaming-at-the mouth frenzy.

              2) He's a troll.

I'll leave you to make your own judgments.

                Play nice, folks . . .

remember, there is an art to the civil yet well-crafted Internet takedown of someone who you may feel richly deserves it . . .

. . . and remember that you can get into trouble yourself for doing it poorly . . .

(This would be a variation of "discuss posts not posters" I guess, in a kinda not really sort of way. Aw, hell with it . . .)

                Discuss posts, not posters, please.

The problem is Nagy cannot relate to them, drives some away, and ends up with a losing record year after year. I just dont see that changing.
Atleast you added some reason for your thoughts. I will disagree. AJ for womens basketball looses players to transfers and players quiting, Duke has players transfer out, everyone does. Sometmes its just not the right fit. I blame more the struggles from the transisiton as a fault more then anything a coach has or has not done to the program. We finally have talent and athletic ability that we have not had since 2000ish seasons. I see no reason why any of the sophs or freshmans would transfer, Several know each other and see to have a feel for playing with each other, I think this team as young as they are understand the big picture.

I am a big boy and can live with criticism. In fact I welcome the questioning. I respect (although disagree) with the opinions of other fans. True fans care and are passionate. Nagy can recruit, I will give him that. You guys tell me, how many more losing seasons will it take for you to change your mind about his status?

We had our starting center out and our 2 key seniors were both playing hurt, With those 3 healthy we beat IPFW in the summit tourny, As soon as we start getting lower seeds and losing every year in the first round I would change my tune. He took us threw D-1 transition hell when he didnt have too, and I think we atleast owe him the ability to show improvement every year, and so far I feel he has gotten us better every year. Its slower then many would like to see, but I feel a coaching change will only set us back, it would do nothing to move us forward IMO.

I don't agree fully with what you are saying, but I agree with your opinion that we shouldn't be okay with mediocrity. It seems like every post that criticizes a coach on this site is met ridiculous harshness because a poster on a message board can't have a negative opinion because they aren't actually a coach. It's stupid.

That being said, I think that Nagy deserves a couple years with the recruits he currently has. These past two years have been different types of classes than he got through the transition. I am of the belief that the coach deserves some time with the kids that he recruits. Three years from now and there still isn't significant improvement? Then I think the university should explore other options. In my opinion, Nagy does appear to be a better recruiter than in-game coach, though.

I think getting more assistant coaches could only make his ability to coach better. Bring in more ideas and allow more help in other aspects.

If you compare Oakland's transition to SDSU's, it is very similar. Kampe and Nagy's DII credentials were very similar as well.

In 05-06, Oakland was 11-18, 6-10 in conference.

In 06-07, Oakland was 19-14, 10-4 in conference. The difference? Derick Nelson and Erik Kangas were Sophomores. Johnathon Jones, was a freshman. The next year, Keith Benson was added to the Mix.

Same head coach. Oakland stuck by Kampe because they knew he could coach.

We have some very, very talented freshmen and sophomores. Perhaps we can pull the same kind of turn around.

I say we give Nagy until after Dykstra's and Heemstra's Sophomore years. If it isn't turned around by then, it could be time for a change.

I know the team hasn't improved by leaps and bounds but they are getting better every year. They went from 6-24, 8-21, 13-20 to 14-16. That looks to me like more wins and less losses every year. They have moved up in the conference standings each year, too. They did lose in the opening round of the tourney last year but otherwise we would have seen more improvement.
I think this year could be interesting. We have more talent then ever but most of them are young. Will we stay the same for this year or not. I don't know about a big improvement but there could be a couple games to get us to .500 or about.
