  • Re: 2011 Recruiting List

    From the Orange County Register:

Versatile Dana Hills quarterback/defensive back Trent Mason (6-3, 205) has committed to South Dakota State, Dolphins assistant coach Phil Skinner announced Monday.

Mason was recruited as an outside linebacker. He is expected to sign on Wednesday, National Signing Day.

The South Dakota State Jackrabbits are part of the competitive FCS Missouri Valley Conference.

Mason is a good get for South Dakota State.

He was an excellent dual-threat QB but has good size to go with his speed. He'll make some plays on defense.

The above link has some info on Trent. If you click on the scouting report tab you will see alot of good comments from his coaches. Sounds like if LB doesn't work out he has the ability to play WR or S.

StarTribune did a nice feature on Reggie Gandy.

It'll be interesting to see what kind of impact he has for SDSU. The article lists him at 5-8, 180 which is pretty small, especially for a kid who is used to running people over.

That is a very professional resume. I've seen resumes with less information on them for people looking for professional jobs, and this was a quality one done online. He apparently has some organizational skills or at least parents willing to go the extra mile.

As a player, he looks like he could fill a number of rolls depending on how he matures and where the team could use his varied skills. I look at that 6'3" frame with 34" vertical and he could be an excellent possession receiver. If he plays linebacker, he could be excellent at covering a tightend, slot receiver, or running back in passing situations. As a safety, he would be huge playing center field in passing situations or helping to shut down the running game. He is not your typical 5'11" 190 lb. athlete that you look for as a d-back or reciever. He is strong, big, and has good speed.

I hope none are stolen on signing day, seems its one or two and sometimes its a surprise, othertimes it just a new oppertunity out of the blue. I like the list we have. will look forward to seeing them play in the future.

Any potential to play their first year and not redshirt?

That's a very good cover story about RB Reggie Gandy in the Feb. 1 Star Tribune. Very impressive young man, and he's excited about becoming a Jackrabbit. He chose SDSU over Northern Iowa and North Dakota.

                            And North Dakota State.

Very good article, looking forward to seeing this kid in a Jackrabbit uniform.

Watched some of the highlights, he has good size, good speed and ridiculous body control for his frame. Some of the cuts he made were amazing for a guy of 6'3". Also, hire the guy who designs the plays, great blocking schemes and play development. I don't like making predictions, but this guy looks to be great.

I call signing day football Christmas, and it is shaping up to be a good one. Hope we have one or two left.
I kinda like the FBS misses/last minute additions/walk-ons: i.e. Brodie, McKnight, and Domino to name a few. They play with a chip(in a good way), and it shows on the field.
It remains to be seen of course, but on paper and watching the highlight films, this looks to be one our best classes yet. Go Jacks!
