Played 1 year of basketball at St. Cloud State and is now transferring to play football. Seems that SDSU is one of the front runners right now. Was recruited by NDSU, UND, & NSIC schools in high school for football. Unsure if NDSU or UND offerred.

    Here's the story: http://www.lakesareasports.com/newsa...1011&nid=45311

Nothing wrong with adding another QB. Also, the last part of the article says he's a pre-veterinarian major, which will factor into his decision. SDSU would be a great fit for that.
6'8", eh? Wonder if he's interested in being a two-sport athlete?

TV reported two more defensive players from UNO were in Brookings over the weekend and on hand for Spring Game. Can anybody identify who they were?

Both defensive guys but can't remember their positions.

          DT & CB

Both are supposed to have multiple years left.

My guess would be that CB Bryan Shepherd would be one of the recruits. He started last year as a redshirt freshman and had a good season.

University of Sioux Falls signed 3 former UNO players this week. Maybe we will find out soon if SDSU offered any of the players from UNO who were on campus the past couple of weeks.

Update on Jack recruits from Nebraska Shrine Bowl. While Tyson Broekemeier dominated the headlines and record books, future Jack - Jimmy Forsythe had a very good night.

Forsythe took limited snaps from center, but was 2-2 for 15 yards passing. However, when he had the ball in his hands he made things happen.

According to the Lincoln Journal Star, "Forsythe, from Omaha Burke, had never played slotback before Saturday." He carried the ball 14 times for 55 yards and a touchdown. His 48 yard 2nd half kickoff return jump started the scoring barrage in the 2nd half. Finally, he had 6 receptions for 45 yards.

During a radio interview on the 'Doug and Daddy Show' earlier in the week, the South team coach from Aurora was asked who would be players to watch for outside of the top Husker recruits. Without hesitation, Randy Huebert replied that "Jimmie Forsythe is a player to watch for. He is so explosive."

Coach Huebert implemented much of his passing offense from his Aurora HS playbook. That, combined with a rule that prevented blitzing defenses, allowed Tyson Broekemeier to break many records. Broekemeier passed for 5 TDs on 30-37 passing and 371 yards. He did have one of his passes picked for a 49 yard TD for the North team.

Broekemeier was considering playing at SDSU along with a number of other offers. He chose to walk-on for the Huskers. With two QBs leaving the Husker program including Cody Green, Broekemeier stands a good chance of making the roster as a QB. Also working for him is the fact that their top QB recruit, Bubba Starling was the 5th overall pick in the MLB draft by the Royals. Broekemeier's older brother was a key contributor at WR for the Huskers this year as a walk-on.

The other future Jackrabbit in the Shrine Bowl was LB - Ben Muff from Crete. He led all defensive players in tackles for both squads with 5 solo and 5 assisted.

Other players in the game that the Jackrabbits had interest in were:
OL - Derek Chancellor, McCook (signed with USD)
DE - David Sutton, Lincoln SE (Nebraska)
DT - Brandon Yost, Millard West
              LB - Gus Peterson, Cambridge
              LB - Brock Sherman, Crete

5'11" DB Ryan Swenson will walk on at SDSU this spring. The Dawson-Boydd senior was also a stand-out wrestler and track star.

Swenson is your classic recruit from the D2 years. Small town athlete who competed well in everything they did, but can get lost in the shuffle of today's super athletes who focus on one sport. What I like about him is his can do attitude.

Swenson said he believes he can compete at the NCAA Division I school. “Anybody can play anywhere if they have the ability and the drive to make the team,” he said. “I’ll do my best and whatever happens, happens. I know I won’t leave with any regrets.”

Being a three sport winner proves his metal. It takes a ton of will power and attitude to be a 3 time state placer, including a champion as a sophmore. His times in the 800 and 1,600 are very good considering he does not train year round by logging 50+ miles per week.

He obviously will redshirt, and will put in several years on the scout team. But it is kids like this that will continue to bring their lunch pail everyday and are willing accept success by pushing the stars to their limits. The Huskers have built their tradition on guys like this. During my days at State, Dan Sonnek was one of those guys and he ended up breaking several team records.

Swenson may or may not be a name you remember 10 years from now, but he could still have a very positive impact on the program. More importantly, he's going to get an outstanding education and is the type of kid that will make an impact in small town, midwest if he so chooses. Good luck Ryan!

I was thinking if football ends up not working out for him he could probably find a spot on the track team.

Yes he is red shirted and I asked Stig about his progress at a Difference Makers meeting. He said he is doing okay, but he said something to the affect he was "too laid back. But he has always been that way". Why would you recruit someone with work ethic problems? Now thats a question I did not dare ask. Maybe its because I am one of Coach Stig's biggest fans. I wonder if the staff out voted him in making an offer. Could this be why the Bison passed him over? Lots of questions here. Gandy is not the answer to this years offense problems based on my brief conversation.
