NCAA might have taken their bid to host the 1-AA FB Championship more seriously, if they did in fact EVER travel. *(OR HONOR a home/home contract - either way, Thank GOD they didn't win that host bid)
According to this link these are the FCS teams that have open dates on 9/4. (I've bolded the ones that I think would be a good fit)
Albany C. Connecticut St Charleston Southern
Eastern Kentucky Lafayette College (PA)
Liberty University
University of Maine
McNeese St
Montana St North Carolina Central Norfolk St Northwestern St Portland St
Stephen F Austin Virginia Union
These are just the schools that have reported open dates and I'm sure there are other schools as well since SDSU didn't even show up on this list.
Coach Stig just stated in an interview how important it is to get another DI team so I doubt that there is much truth to the Upper Iowa rumor. Maybe it was discussed and could be in place for a plan B incase we don't find another game but it would be a last resort.
Highlighted or not any of those teams is better than a D2 team. D2 is non-counter(and non-entertaining for us ticket holders). I agree a D2 team "just in case" is obviously there for good reason.
Everybody else says brutal schedule for the Jacks. I say brutal for the teams that play us. 1)Top 25 team 3 years running. 2)Playoff team. 3)Took Montana to the woodshed for 3 or so quarters. We may have lost a little in graduation(who doesn't?), but look at all our returners. Do I think we'll roll over Nebraska? No, but I like our chances. The Rabbits are here to stay, and everyone else needs to circle their calendar when they roll in and hope we don't ruin their playoff chances.(If that's smack. I accept the consequences)

VA Union is D2. That's the BUS TRIP that transitional USD TOOK to get a full slate of games in 08.

DO NOT trust this list. Eastern Ky. plays Mo. State on Sept. 2, for instance. Liberty plays St. Francis, Pa., on Sept. 4.

Reason: adding one more fact
I visited with some people from the athletic department this weekend. Not looking good for a 5th DI game at CAS this fall. That doesn't mean it won't happen, that just means it's not looking good right now. Things change, opportunities knock, I hope we find one.

Something better happen. There will be a lot of unhappy Jackrabbit fans if we have to watch University of Sucky DII team (Not USD. Just happens to match.)
I have been approached by 2 people in the last week inquiring about this upcoming seasons schedule. Because it is incomplete it is very difficult to find. SDSU needs to secure the 5th home game and get the schedule out there or release a partial schedule. I think the uncertainty could hurt season ticket sales. Maybe I'm dead wrong.
