Re: SDSU and USD Battle for the Golden Pheasant

Turning the attendance argument around . . .

Is it time to start talking seriously about expanding Coughlin-Alumni Stadium to the 18-20,000 seat level? I mean, if we get 16K for what some would argue will be our second-best rival, how many when our "true rival" comes back onto the schedule?

    (Yeah, I know I'm throwing a fire-bomb here, but I just couldn't resist )

And, since Frost's capacity is only 6500 nowadays, we need to start planning that 10-12,000 seat on-campus basketball arena to accommodate all those rivalry games! Hey, maybe we bump it up to 15-16k seating and share the engineering/design costs 50/50 with Sioux Falls . . . Two Arenas for the Price of One!

(Tongue is in cheek, mostly, folks. I'm just in a good mood. Don't freak out.)

I think we need a totally awesome, multi-purpose domed stadium with a fabric roof that we can replace in several years, costing the taxpayers millions. Ideally, we'd make it hold fewer people than Coughlin and we'd get the engineers to make the sight lines for basketball really bad.
      Holy nutmeg!

The multi-million dollar TV deal we're about to sign wtih the local TV stations to air these in state rivalry games will go a long ways toward paying for these facilities.(Tongue in cheek also.)

Yes...it really is true that with USD becoming a member of the Summit all of SDSU's D-1 hopes and dreams will now finally come true...just watch the $$$'s come rolling in now that "the rivalry" will be renewed!!
I can't wait for the MVFC to come to it's senses and admit them to our football league, maybe we can even play them twice a season....that would be the smartest thing the SDSU/USD administrations could do, IMO.
Maybe then Augustana will come to it's senses and move up to D-1, so we can have another piece of the old NCC pie back in place...oh, what a dream, soon enough things will be just they they've always been!!

I couldn't resist the urge...who says scarcasim is the worst form of humor.

            Go Jacks!!

I don't know why people just want to settle for just an ordinary football/basketball game against USD, for this rivalry is way too big to contained within a single sport, it needs to be a winner take all extravaganza! Instead of having winner in each seperate sport, lets have a triathlon of different sports in which SDSU and USD can square off in: Lets say we start with a football game, then as soon as that is over, we play them in basketball (each team starting with the amount of points they ended the football game with), and then we'll finish off with a baseball game... errr... wait...

Why not make a deal with Minneapolis and buy the Metrodome, number every brick, steel beam, plumbing, etc and reassemble it in Brookings after the Vikings and Twins are done with it. It's just going to sit there empty and probably get torn down anyway. They should make a great deal on it don't you think.

                  OK, my bad.

I knew that this lighthearted post was going to hijack the thread and spin it into semi-smackdom. I knew it even as I was typing it.

                  I'm sorry.

I'm not very excited about a golden pheasant, though. Unless you can get the one next to US 14 in Huron and paint it gold, as the Mother of All Traveling Trophies. That would actually be kinda cool, in a shamefully excessive sort of way.

Maybe someone knows where the Pheasant that once was atop the Pheasant Cafe in Brookings is located. Its got to be in storage somewhere. We would then not have to make a deal for the one in Huron.
Also the Pheasant Cafe Pheasant had neon lighting, which would work for night games at CAS. Turn off all the other lights and light up the pheasant. That would get the crowd going

Re: SDSU and USD Battle for the Golden Pheasant

The Tinkertown pheasant is the biggest one. I don't think any USD fan deserves any part of a shot at a pheasant trophy. The number of pheasants and pheasant hunters near Vermillion pales in comparison to Brookings.

There was something odd about this thread from the beginning (no offense to who ever started it). I couldn't put my finger on it until the silliness began, and then it hit. Isn't Battle for the Golden Pheasant the working title for the next Austin Powers movie?

Read it again...it looks like Hurons is the biggest but pound for pound Tinkertowns is the heaviest

Filbert, Delaware's stadium capacity is 22,000, and their state population is not that much larger than South Dakota's. Also, they have closer D-1 biggies to contend with in Maryland, Rutgers, the Ivys in their neighborhood, Temple. Penn State, etc. So why not shoot for bigger, say 25,000? Wyoming's football capacity is 33,500.
Call the USD-SDSU game the Pheasant Bowl, hold it at 7:30 on the evening of the pheasant season opener, price your seats modestly, and wouldn't you sell 25,000 tickets?
