Cowbells should definitely be allowed. Go to a game at Northern Iowa. You wouldn't even hear a cowbell over that bs they play there.

Wasn't saying it's likely to happen, just that its what needs to happen to make the playoffs. We'd have to beat SIU, MSU, NDSU (at the dome) and Illinois St. to do it. We have one game in the next 5 that we can realistically go in expecting to win and the rest are toss ups. I was merely pointing out that our chances at an at-large bid evaporated tonight.

Their quickness and speed did our defense in, and our patched up offensive line gave Berry almost no time to pass, especially in the two three-sack series. I know I kept screaming at him to throw it away, but I also want to give him credit for hanging in and getting two plays off at the last possible second (as he was hit), which led to two touchdowns for us.

I think the problem some posters have IMO, is that they think we are a top five team, and we aren't. But I don't think you can say we aren't a top 25 team. But 22nd ranked teams seldom beat #3 teams, or #5 teams. We have a tough schedule. Stig was right in the postgame, we didn't perform like we can, but I'm not sure that would have meant a win...just a better feeling.
I am maybe 99% in agreement with your post Jacks#1Fan. Without a doubt, CP showed a great deal of talent and executed their game plan better than we did ours. The score bothers me somewhat in that previous four games with CP, we either won or we played them close. We were down 14 or more points for most of the game, and that makes tonight's game different from the other four, at least in my mind. CP has probably not changed much in their game plans for the past five years so they should not be a mystery to our staff or the teams. Stig alluded to that in the post game show. Now that bothers me some, but I am not about to say I could do better AS A PLAYER OR A COACH.

Our O line was really struggling tonight, and it made me check the game roster which shows a lot of Freshman and a lot of seniors and the juniors and sophomores number less than the seniors and freshman. So the continuity in good experienced lineman does seem to be off a little from the prior seasons. Coach Stig mentioned in the post game show, that there were mismatches in experience and CP took advantage of the mismatches and perhaps that explains the final score. Also Stig said that 10 sacks is what you expect for the season and not for one game, which we did have. There seem to be a number of things wrong tonight and enough blame to go around. I just hope Coach Stig and staff can use this coming week to make corrections and adjustments.

We still got five games left to play. Thats a bunch of football.

We could still have a very good season and yes we are better than the DeSmet/Iroquis Bulldogs. (DeSmet and Iroquis are coop nine man football team this year. That in itself is a statement about the loss of rural population. They beat Arlington a week ago, but I doubt they want to take on SDSU.)

I think we were a legit top 15 team to start the season and when our team was healthy. Our D looked like a unit that had no cohesiveness tonight. That is not the same Defense that played the first 3 games of the season for SDSU. I think alot of that has to do with the injuries and the jumbling of the lineups which result for the injuries. Just like a good offense, a good defense needs to gel and grow as a unit. Our D has not been able to do that and looked pretty gun shy tonight.

Other thing that bothers me is our running game. It's been an afterthought most of the time. Sure, we've been behind early in the last 3 games and have been forced to throw, but our running game disappeared from the middle of the 1st quarter to the middle of the third tonight. We could give our D some much needed time on the sidelines if we could play a little ball control offense here and there. Plus, nothing destroys an opposing teams pysche more than running the ball all over them. You saw it happen to us tonight with Poly's O.

After two years ago and what the Jacks did to SFA three weeks ago, I did not count this a win until the final second tick off the clock. When the Jacks got the onside kick I had that oh no here we go again feeling. I feel fortunate to come out of Brookings with a win.

The Jacks are a class program and next week if UNI loses at WIU (which I think is a real possibility) the Jacks will control their own destiny in the MVFC and thus their own playoff destiny. The Jacks are one of my favorite FCS teams and I will be pulling for you all the way.

Best of luck the rest of the way and we will see you next year in SLO if not this December in the playoffs.

I take slight offense to you calling my post crap when you were not here to participate in the game thread and understand the feeling we all had here on the board. Granted, you had the privilege of being at the game and enjoying the experience, but it does not grant you permission to belittle my post because the fact of the matter is we did not play well on either side of the ball. Facts are facts. Missed tackles and poor offensive play doesn't equal a win. You can see that in my post.

Also Jacks#1Fan, I respect your opinion on this board as you have demonstrated a wealth of knowledge. I apologize if I refuse to accept that we can't win every game on our schedule and expect us to win them all. We made this move to FCS because we believed we could do that and build a tradition of winning. As a fan, an alumnus, and a booster of the Jacks I expect nothing less.

I agree that the O-line was less than impressive tonight, but alot of the responsibility lies on Berry as well. You can't stand in the pocket for 5 seconds and not expect to get sacked. He did a horrible job of getting rid of the ball. 3 step drop and get the ball out of there, don't hold onto it. Especially not 3 times in a row!!! I believe we had two posessions in the second half where we were 3 and out with 3 sacks on both possessions.

Also gotta put some blame on the coaches as well for not running some shorter routes or some screens or swing passes to slow the rush down. We ran one screen all night and Duffy picked up a nice gain with it. Poly knew we were throwing. To try to go downfield with long routes when they have their ears pinned back going after the QB isn't going to work.

We put up some decent yards with Minnet and Duffy, but being down 2 or 3 scores most of the second half you just don't have the time to run the ball much.

If we're going to worry about Rep Points on a game thread there has to be something wrong. Right now, I'm worried about Ryan Berry looking like trash out there tonight. And our defense being about as useful as a condom with holes in it.

I agree. So the person that chose to ding me could have left their name. I have the same concerns that you expressed. Just because my post number is low doesn't mean I don't know SDSU football. Or SDSU for that matter.

                          Gimme a break.

I'm home and cooled a little bit. My assessment by grading the game:

QB: D+. Two picks on throws that should not have been made. Very bad presence in the pocket. A few good throws, especially when moving.

RB: I. Yes incomplete...see coaching grade below.

WR: B+. JaRon once again very good. Two TDs on not the greatest of throws. Fox dropped two early that hurt, but had a couple of nice catches later.

OL: D+. Couldn't handle more than what was thrown at them.

D-front 7: C-. Had a few good plays, but it seemed like even the littlest of runs got 3 yards. Gotta wrap up, yes you Jimmy on the 81 yarder.

Secondary: C+. Didn't pick up the outside when they ran that way. Ok against the receivers even though Barden was a decoy for pretty much the whole game.

Special teams: D. Got an onside kick...that's it. Blocked punt. Possibly the longest punt in school history called back for holding and the next punt was returned 20 yards. That was over 60 yards in field position. Block in the back on a nice return by Gant. Reifenrath should have his scholarship pulled.

Coaching: D-. I don't even know why it's that high. Rushed for 300 plus yards last year and refused to establish the run at all. Poor play calling the whole game. Piss poor clock management at the end of the third quarter with the wind and letting the clock run out and then punting into the wind. No adjustments at halftime. The team just looked flat out of the chute playing a top five team coming off a bye, unexcusable.

Penalties!!!! That penalty on the punt was a killer. Instead of CP being on around the 10 yard line, they end up on the 35-40. Did CP even have a penalty called against them (beside the off-setting foul). Certainly not the reason we lost.

Ten sacks. It was a mix of no time for the QB and holding on too long.

Just not a very good showing for the Jacks. Would have liked to see more fans in the stands.
Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!--Bluto--

So who's "rule" is this. I'm sick and tired of this crap about the cowbells. OK, I can MAYBE understand at Frost...OK...but this CRAP about not bringing them to an OUTDOORS football game is CRAP...C-R-A-P. And just what are they gonna do? "escort" me out of the stadium? I agree with who ever said it's ridiculous. And now you can't wave a towell that was distributed....Holy Crap! (to quote Stig...tho I have a much more colorful word that I'd use) We need a revolution and stand up to these "powers that be" and tell 'em to stick it where the stadium lights don't shine. They told us that it was from the stadium director... but who is the stadium director. We will be taking care of it on campus and you can guarantee at the next game some students will be getting kicked out
