One of my old teamates called me before the game as we had both just logged into the computer to watch the game. After stating it sounded like a big crowd my buddy made the statement, "Just like when played - 12,000 fans for every game...either that or 2,000 every game." There's a lot of truth to that statement. And that's in just over 10 year's time. They may not all stand up and yell, but they're showing up in droves compared to attendance figures from just 4-5 years ago.

I guess I don't think it is a big deal at all to make them walk back to the HPER for their lockers since it is a better facility. It isn't like we are a big time FBS program with money to burn on facility upgrades.

Besides, the last time I checked these are all pretty well conditioned athletes out there and running an extra 150 yards at halftime isn't going to effect them in the slightest. It may even help them get loosened up for the second half. It may be a little harder on the coaches.

From what people tied to the program have told me, our facilities aren't the worst setup in the conference. Not even close. Visiting teams deserve to be treated with respect but you have to expect the visitor facilities probably aren't going to be like home.

Have to admit that I like the idea of the pink locker room though!

Maybe, and it could actually be worse, IMHO. You could be TCU Horned Frogs...

We definitely need to get on that list. We would surely make it as ours is very unique.

The embarassing part yesterday was when they drove though the Backyard using the PA system to announce, "The Backyard will close in 11 minutes. The Backyard will close in 10 minutes." It's all a little goofy. I've never had any problems with the police, but they are all over the place and could tone it down a bit. And that's MY two cents.
The event is a football game, and the tailgating area is a great thing for adding to the experience before the game. But once the game starts, the tailgating area should be closed as the reason for being there in the first place is nowing going on inside the stadium.

Actually, no one should have to "close" the tailgating area once the game starts. If you're not there to go to the game, then just have a house party and keep going all day long. Otherwise once its kickoff time, get into the stadium and support the team.

I don't disagree. The only thing I will add is if the games become sellouts. I'm not saying that will, but if they do, I think it might be reasonable to consider leaving the tailgate lots open for those who can't get into the stadium. At least they would be able to experience the event. It would be a nice thing to consider. I like to think we might be have that problem in the future.

I can understand why they want to close the tailgating area. There are serious concerns for preventing crime. If people feel that they can walk through and hang out in the tailgating area when noone is there, one can just imagine how much of a hotbed of theft and vandalism it can potentially become. No matter where you go, there will always be at least that one little group of hooligans out there 'looking for a good time'. I wish that wasn't the case, but we live in the real world here.*

Having said that, is there any insight here into how they manage things at places like the U of Montana, where they can go out for a 'little break' during halftime?

When I went to the games there in 5 + years ago, you could come and go when you wanted....in fact, just as much tailgating took place at half time as it did before the game. Many people would stay after the game and keep partying. There was a relevant police presence, but they were never overbearing or rude.
The ground rules were simple....no naked people, no fighting, no vandalism, and no one goes to jail. The University and City Police worked together and had a noticeable presence at every game, but I rarely witnessed an altercation and I went to almost every home game for five years.
I think it has been said here before, but a lot of this has to do with the attitude of the people delivering the "Public Service". Some has to do with the laws they are "enforcing".

As much as I hate dome's, UNI had a pretty cool game-day experience. Lots of tailgating, including designating certain lots for certain alumni based on their donations, etc. They even had a couple blow-up castles, etc for the kids. If you were at the game and made it to the SDSU alumni tent area, you probably noticed them. You also probably noticed the loan SDSU fan standing there because he brought his 5-year-old daughter who wouldn't leave. They even had players from the UNI baseball team driving golf carts around and their sole purpose was to give people rides to various places in the tailgating areas. Again, if you saw a tall SDSU supporter with a little blonde girl in tow catching a ride on one of those, that would have been me.

One other thing. The UNI fans were all very cordial and respectful before, during and after the game. My daughter was on the turf running with all the other kids after the game and I must have had 5-6 people come up to me to talk about the game and how good our team is. I even mentioned to my dad how different the atmosphere was there than the old NCC teams. Just a great environment to watch a football game...minus the domed stadium and the crappy noise from the loudspeakers.

                          It's a great community.

There are new restrictions this year re: tailgating, the first in decades, but they are not enforced at the end of a billy club. No one gets out of hand. Been that way for eons.

CapnCat, McNeese and UNI need to get hooked up with a home and home deal again. And you need to come down and tailgate with us.

P.S. The McNeese cheerleaders always come visit our tailgating spot before every game.

Gee KELO LAND seems to be upto date. How long ago was it since Langer's letter was published? How long ago was the Beef Bowl? Sept 13? and today is Oct 3? Where has KELO been with this story? It looks like they have a slow news day.
