. . . I was surprised to hear that the entire East side is reserved. I wonder how fans became aware of that change? How many people walked up to the game assuming they could buy a GA ticket and sit on the East side at midfield? I should know because, before this year, that's what I did every home game for the last 10 years or so. It was commonplace to show up a little early and get a prime seat for GA price. I don't necessarily disagree with the change because you could get great seats at a bargain price, so there was definitely an opportunity to capitalize. However, I'm guessing there were quite a few disappointed fans.

The first time I was made aware of the change was on June 25 when the press release about Single Game ticket sales went out and it was posted on Go Jacks.com It seemed like a smart move to me, of course it didn't effect me as I am a season ticket holder.

Single-game tickets for the South Dakota State University football team’s six home games will go on sale July 1.

After winning the Great West Football Conference title last season, 2008 marks the Jackrabbits’ inaugural year in the Missouri Valley Football Conference. SDSU will open the home schedule Sept. 6 against league foe Youngstown State (Ohio) in the 13th Annual Cereal Bowl. The next week, on Sept. 13, the Jackrabbits will take on another conference opponent, Western Illinois, in the 42nd Annual Beef Bowl. The September home games are both 6 p.m. kickoffs. . . .

With the exception of temporary bleachers in the end zones, all seating this season at Coughlin-Alumni Stadium will be reserved. Single-game prices are $16 for reserved seats and $12 for adult general admission seats. General admission tickets for children in kindergarten through 12th grade remain $5. . . (read more)

Sorry, but IMHO, there is no way they are going to keep it all GA. The move to more reserved seats is inevitable if we are to succeed in D-I.

I do take some offense to your calling the ushers "nazis". I know you probably weren't around when the real Nazis were, but I think the ushers (or whomever) were just trying to do their jobs as best they knew out. Calling out the department for not having a workable plan to deal with the change from GA to Reserved (in your opinion) is certainly proper however.

I'm a little more interested in reading about the reasons behind your belief that "the move to more reserved seats is inevitable..."(edit: ok, so it's apparently already a done deal. New question is: Why is that the more appropriate option?)

I'm sorry that you take offense to the word nazi in reference to the hired help. I definitely did not admire the position that they were in once they realized their mistake, but physically removing an entire section of fans less than 10 minutes before kickoff is going a little far. The excuse I saw them give was that they were only trying to enforce their ticket policy. Remember, they "were only following orders."

OTOH, I admit that I don't know what the real CAS nazis may have been like. Every venue has them and it seems to have become a generic term to describe 'them' any time they make questionable decisions in the name of enforcing rules.*

Nidaros: There are no corporate sponsorships in the Dykhouse Center; the deck is just part of the planning for the building to provide the panoramic view of the stadium for recruits and their families. The building will be too far removed to provide any good game watching. Sky boxes will be part of the eventual new stadium.

I envisioned the Dykhouse Center being pushed up against the North Endzone, is that not the case? Will it be further back into the backyard. It seems to me it would be an opportune time to create some skybox type seating, even if they aren't for corporate sponsors. The coaches offices that they say will overlook the field could easily double for "viewing suites" if the building was close enough to CAS.

As far as seating goes, count me in the "move the band to the north endzone and students to the east bleachers and open up the West side for more reserved and GA" crowd. I sat on the Westside for the first time in a few years last week and you can barely hear the band. If they were in the endzone I think they would project much better and the whole stadium would be filled with sound. Plus the students would be behind the visitors bench (although a little ways removed for sportsmanship type concerns) making CAS a little more hostile environment.

I'm in too. Move the band to an endzone so the west side fans can hear them and so paying customers can occupy those seats. Students are paying customers and there may be room to expand their section a little bit. It should depend upon season ticket sales. If you want a guarunteed good seat buy season tickets.

Can anyone provide the blueprints for the Dykhouse center? I am curious to know how far from the endzone it will be.

I've always wondered why the band always had prime seats at the football games. I know their good but with 300+ members how many rows do they take up at the fifty to thirty five yard line sections. I agree that they should be put in the end zone, preferably in the north end zone so when the wind is from the north Sioux Falls will be able to hear them and the hot air will warm the rest of the stadium a little. No really, put them in the stands on the north end zone and fill their old spots with reserved seating. Put higher bleachers on the east side if possible and have GA and reserved over there. As far as cowbells, it's a South Dakota State tradition and the MoV should be made aware of this especialy if NDSU gets to keep the cannon.

Maybe somebody should ask if we can ring the cowbells after a touchdown. If NDSU can use the cannon we should be at least able to ring the cowbells then.

Putting the band in bleachers underneath the scoreboard would make sense from a paid-seating-capacity point of view, as well as facilitate access to the field for the Pride, and make the Pride's in-game performances easier to hear for all CAS paying customers--and keep them close to the student section, too. Of course, this means they get to face north, into the wind, which won't be much fun in November . . .

And, while I'm king of the world, I'd make the seats vacated by the Pride reserved seats, and trade them one-for-one with general admission seats on the north and south end of the east stands.

I heard that was part of the plan at one point. We'll get to see soon enough. Here's a picture that came in today's SDSU Newsline email newsletter that shows the Dykhouse Center as it is currently envisioned (note it takes its architectural cues from the Wellness Center):

I'll talk to Mike and Jim on Saturday. I talked to Fred at the YSU game but I didn't ask about the Dykhouse center. I wasn't really focused on that at the time.

I don't know if it is still the case, but I know that the department has felt that they would like to move the band to the south endzone. There were what I would call "political" concerns that kept it from happening. I'm sure the band seats were not as important when we didn't get the attendance we are getting now. I'm wondering if a new director and the need for reserved seats on the west section might lead to further discourse on this idea???

I agree with all the comments about how much better it would be to have the band out of the west stands. They would be heard much better by the fans if they were in the south endzone.

Forgive me if this has been covered, but how did the field look Saturday night? Watching on the internet, I noticed the new logo at mid field and the Gateway logo along the sideline. I thought the rabbit looked disproportionately small. Does BHS have a home game this Friday at CAS? Did they last Friday? Looking forward to seeing the field for myself this Saturday.
