  • Re: 2009 Prospects

I talked to Earv..... He liked SDSU but his brother and a majority of his friends go to USD and he looked at SDSU and saw an already stacked backfield and secondary..... I know a few guys that went down to USD and they said that the staff treats local players like crap and I hope it doesn't happen to these guys....

I guess obviously everyone is entitled to their own opinion but as far as I'm concerned, USD is not even close to being on the same level as our program. If they somehow felt that in the end USD was better for them, then that sucks for them! Have a fun bus ride in Vermillion!

I hope Earv does get this treatment. That might give him a reason to transfer to SDSU.

My understanding most of the Brookings High players of recent, Duffy, Wagner and others have been walk-ons. I don't know if that is "crap treatment by the staff", but work ethic will eventually show up no matter what your home address is providing you give it your best effort. I think if SDSU offers a full ride, that individual had better have some talent that can be put to use immediately. I would think Earv will have to learn whats in the play book no matter where he attends and that is not crap treatment in my opinion. From a reliable source the spouse of the BHS coach, Alex Parker is first BHS player to get a full ride since going to D1. As a graduate of BHS, I think that is the way it should work.

I agree with you, the crap I was getting at is I know numerous players that have gone there, the coaches came and told them that they where top recruits, during there red-shirt years they were just as good as the guy beside them but because the guy beside them was recruited by so and so coach or was an out of state recruit they moved up the depth chart faster....

Sounds like sour grapes to me.

I don't know I know these guys and I watched USD play and they can't be much worse then what they put on the field.... It just seems like there player turnover is a lot higher then SDSU's.... And a majority of them are in state players.... just my observations and talkings to the players/former players.

6'8"! Wow. Seems like some of these guys (this one and the Marshall kid) are allergic to stone or something since they seem attracted to the Dakota Marker-free-zone at NDSU.

I just have a feeling that until we upgrade our facilities, recruits that seem to be torn between the two programs will fall on the wrong side of the fence the majority of the time. It's tempting for a high schooler who is deciding between two good programs to choose the one with a little more eye appeal on the surface

And you'll read many times over that the kind of kid that is going to pick a school based on its facilities is not necessarily the kind of kid Stig and staff want.

That's great, but you still need the facilities. Now I'm not saying I have millions to donate, but SDSU needs to get up there too. Losing players because of facilities is not going to help us. It will be awhile until all of these things get upgraded. We're improving already though with the Dykhouse Center.

In my experience coaches at the collegiate level generally try to put the best players on the field who are best able to provide their team a chance to win the game. See, that's how they keep their jobs...winning games. This isn't high school where the coach's kid or nephew plays because of stupid small town politics. Generally, a coach wants to win to feed his family and will put the best kids on the field as a result. They may even bust out the 2-2-Todd defense if they really want to pull out all the stops...for those of you who get that reference. Although there are exceptions, most players who say "I'm just as good as that guy" either aren't or have a bad attitude or don't work hard enough to warrant playing time.
