    Re: 2009 Prospects

ESPN added some more to the list today.

    http://insider.espn.go.com/ncf/recru...choolId%3d2571

The list up to 11, looks like we're hitting Wisconsin hard.

Lotzer either tore some ligaments in his throwing thumb or broke his thumb in Sisseton's game against Milbank last night. Done for the season and probably done for the basketball season.

I was wondering why they lost.

Saw it first-hand if you will, happened on the 5th play of the game.

This kid just looks like a D-1 quarterback, and this is an unfortunate injury. BHM, are you SURE he's out for season??

I noticed that he had a hand-warmer that had an Arizona State logo on it...let's just say, you don't get those at the ASU bookstore.

After only seeing him play three plays and warm-ups...let's just say, he'd look REALLY good in Blue and Yellow...I mean REALLY good.

          Go Jacks!!

Sounds like a special talent, that is for sure. Here is a KSFY story on him that gives some info on where he's looking at for college.

            http://www.ksfy.com/sports/headlines/30929349.html

One other note, Lotzer has yet to decide where he'll attend college. All of the regional FCS schools have shown interest as well as some Division I schools.
There is also a great article about him from the Argus:

            http://www.argusleader.com/apps/pbcs...TS01/810160336

Then again, Urlacher wasn't a perennial All-Pro as a high school senior, and Lotzer is quick to deflect any praise. He is reluctant to accommodate media requests - which have increased of late - and is mum about his future plans other than to acknowledge that he has had contact with South Dakota State and North Dakota State and doesn't have any NCAA Division I scholarship offers.

"I'd prefer to stay under the radar," he said.

            ...

Still, Lotzer remains something of an unknown in the increasingly influential online recruiting community. Scout.com tabs him as a one-star prospect on a scale to five, but doesn't so much as have his height or weight, while Rivals.com doesn't even have his name in its database.

That may be for the best. Although Hagen recently enlisted the help of a friend to get game film to the elite Division I programs, he has a hunch that the availability of outdoor activities will factor into where Lotzer lands. Fittingly, the shotgun quarterback is an avid hunter.

Judging by the reports I heard, he is out for the season. Well, we know a broken throwing thumb will put you out for a while, just ask Romo. If it's a torn thumb ligament that's possibly a 3-4 month recovery time.

In case he is reading the board, shot 54 pheasants with a group of guys near Parkston today. Hunting just outside of Brookings tomorrow. You aren't going to find pheasants in those numbers any where else in the world. Just have him speak with Eric Schroeder and some of the other current Jacks about hunting around Brookings, its fantastic.

Hunted a field north of Brookings last year. Just two of us and we were heading the wrong way (walking with the wind) and scared up some pheasants too far out of range. How many was a few? It was at least 200 birds at one time flying. Even if some of the birds were at the edge of our range limit, you just had your jaw drop just watching that many birds at one time. The land owner didn't think he had that many birds left in his field. We knew it was going to be good when we drive up and birds are flying out of his front yard and trees.

As to the prospects, sounds like the QB from Sisseton is a catch for whoever gets him to sign. To bad his injury could end his season. Nice to see a SD kid get attention for being a national leader in stats.
Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!--Bluto--

The thumb injury didn't end his season, as reported here earlier, but Dell Rapids did, as they rolled over Sisseton in the playoffs. Don't know how much the injured thumb affected his play, but the outcome probably wouldn't have been different for the team.

"Mitchell" noted earlier that looks like we are hitting Wisconsin hard. I think that is a very good plan. I live in WI, and beyond the Badgers an option that many players take in the state is going to a WIAC school, which is a D3 conference. There are many players that play D3 that are good enough to play FCS level. There isn't even a d2 school in the state. This is good recruiting ground for SDSU and I am glad we are hitting it hard.
Minnsota gets picked over by the Jacks, Bison, Sioux, UNI, etc.....

I've felt the same way about WI athletes since I moved here approx 10 years ago. What hurt in the past was the cost of bringing a WI athlete to SD as opposed to a NE, MN or IA athlete due to reciprocity. I think we've moved past those concerns somewhat and are more interested in just getting the best available athletes.

I have noticed that USD is coming into WI hard, which is a complete turnaround from what they normally do. They are a NE, IA recruiting team. I think we have always done a good job of getting players from Wisconsin, and I think we have 4 or 5 'Sconi boys right now, which helps when you bring in recruits from there.

Looking at the roster it is nice to see a # of players from states outside of the Jacks "footprint" such as MO/KS, TX and AZ.

Having a coach that had success and is very familiar with Wisconsin is playing a big part in the increased attention to WI athletes.

Another recruit was added to the SDSU list on ESPN.

Ryan Givens RB 5-9 165 Riverside Univ H.S. (WI)
