    Re: UNC

Back to the topic of this post.

How important is this game to SDSU? It's obviously not as big now that we dropped the NDSU game. But, I think it's a pretty big game to stay above .500 in the conference and overall. I believe it would also secure a tie for 3 place in the conference.

I don't expect a big crowd turnout, but the Jacks will come to play and get it done. I'd like to seem them go out in style by giving UNC a good whoopin on their way to the BSC.

    My prediction: State 34-10.

I think the Big Sky thing will be a big motivator for the Jacks, who I'm sure would like to send UNC into the conference with a heapin' helping of humble pie.

      35-17 Jacks.

        Re: UNC

We are currently sitting as 9.5 point favorites. I think we cover the spread rather easily. Anyone know if Kardoes is going to play this weekend? How about Watson? It sounds like UNC's back may be questionable for the game, although that may be some gamesmenship on the part of the UNC coach, too.

No matter what, we need to win this game to finish the season on a good note and to go into the recruiting season with a winning record. I see it as a low scoring affair based on the weather. We win 28 - 10.

          Re: UNC

Another chance for this team to redeem itself.  To many "casual" fans in SD, UNC remains a team that use to dominate SDSU in FB.  A convincing win over this team at home to end the season will be meaningful.  In addition, I expect Stig has this team prepared and I know these guys want to win.

Unsure on Kardoes or Watson, anyone here anything?

Weather will be bad, 35 degrees, 20 mph winds.  Won't stop me from hitting the backyard and sitting in the stands.

Looking for the Jacks to bounce back, step-up, and throw-down.

I saw Kardoes earlier this week on campus. He was still on crutches. Berry will play well.

              .
I don't think it's gamesmenship. Dalton usually doesn't do that. Wilson has been out the past two weeks and Dalton says he might play sparingly in a limited role, as of yesterday. Hopefully he'll be back but I have confidence in Ealy and Waterman. What about your qb? It sounds like most bunnies fans thinks Barry should be the starter anyway?

                Re: UNC

stig was on the sportsshow this morning, said Kardoes is out for sure, watson most likely will not play as he has a pretty bad pulled hammy. Deaver and Nobling both out as well, said the NDSU game was rough on us, due to the awful astroturf and even said NDSU likes to go at the legs. Stressed that what they do is legal, but noted it may be a little shady from a football perspective. we only had one major knee injury all year up until NDSU and we had 3-4 in that game.

Said recruiting was getting going, seemed real dissapointed about the NDSU game, but stated he needed to get over that with the players. Looking forward to winning this weekend and going out on a good foot.

Northern Colorado hopes momentum carries over

By Pat Rooney, Special to the News
                  November 18, 2005

Funny how a long-awaited victory can brighten the fortunes of a season spiraling out of control.
The University of Northern Colorado enjoyed just such a win Saturday against Sam Houston State, beating a Division I-AA opponent for only the second time in the Bears' past nine opportunities.

The victory also kept the Bears from a second consecutive losing season, something that has not happened since the 1986 and 1987 seasons.

The Bears, though, have no margin for error.

Northern Colorado needs to win its final two games to avoid a losing season, a challenge that begins Saturday when the Bears visit South Dakota State for a Great West Conference game.

"Any win is good, but what I liked (against Sam Houston State) was I thought the defense played great," Bears coach Kay Dalton said. "They really were flying around the ball. It definitely was a win we should have won and did win. It was very satisfying."

Northern Colorado has lost its past nine road games and its past five conference games. The Bears' most recent road victory was nearly two years ago, but despite the out- of-the-way destinations for many of their road games that often require a day of travel, Dalton said he believes the team has to learn how to have success away from home.

The Bears complete the season next week at UC Davis.

"It's even worse this week. I think we have a five-hour bus ride after we land," Dalton said. "We don't have any excuses. The kids have to learn to win on the road. That's part of the game. But I don't think we've ever laid down on a road trip."

The Bears running attack should get a boost from the probable return of Andre Wilson, who ranks fourth in Division I-AA with 139.1 rushing yards a game but has missed the past two games because of a high ankle sprain.

Wilson took more reps during practice this week, and while Dalton said his top runner is far from 100 percent, Wilson should be healthy enough to carry some of the rushing load Saturday.

Wilson's backup, Eaglecrest High School graduate Jahir Waterman, left the Sam Houston State game because of a rib injury but also is expected to play against South Dakota State.

The Bears' third-string running back, redshirt freshman Patrick Ealy, picked up the slack with 104 yards and one touchdown on 22 carries against Sam Houston State. . . .

The Jackrabbits have been slowed on offense by injuries to quarterback Andy Kardoes and running back Anthony Watson, but South Dakota State's defense is allowing 23.7 points a game despite the lopsided loss last week.

"They beat us (in Greeley) rather soundly last year in the snow," said Dalton, whose team joins the Big Sky Conference next season.

"And I heard they had a blizzard up there this week. They have a big, strong team.

"I don't know where they get those big guys. We can't seem to find them." . . .

                  Go State! ;D

                    Re: UNC

So.....we're banged up/beat up but I trust not beat down by the Bison loss. I agree with CK, this game will be decided by the big boys on the line. If the wind is 20-30 mph Hagar will struggle. We need better control of field position and some defensive stops early in the game. Looking forward to a good showing by the Jacks.

Hager didn't stuggle last weekend when we had about those same type of winds at our place against Sam. Hopefully it will be a good game and I look forward to listening to it. BTW, are your students out for Thanksgiving break or do they stay a couple more days? Expect a big crowd?

I don't think the students are out but I'm 15 years removed from college and can't say for sure. I would not expect a big crowd. A number of our regular crew will be hunting deer. 3,000 at best.

Was it 35 degrees with 30 mph winds and rain/snow last week in Greeley?

The students are here until Wednesday of Thanksgiving week. I wouldn't expect a big crowd though. It seems like a lot of the campus energy has been diverted to the basketball teams. I would expect the old-timers (I'm 41, but I sit in that section) to be there and a few students. I'd say 3,500 or so would be pretty good.

I can't remember off the top of my head but I think it was about 40-45 degrees, and maybe about that windy. We aren't going to win with Hager throwing a lot anyways, he's got a bumb shoulder. IF we are going to win it will be with our running game.
