Nice article about Thomas and his mom.
Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!--Bluto--

Add another one to the list...in the sports brief section of today's Argus:

Winner High School tight end Seth Daughters has made a verbal commitment to play football at South Dakota State. The 6-foot-6, 215-pound senior caught 41 passes for more than 700 yards over the past two seasons, earning Class 11A all-state honors.

Thanks for the news Joe. Just curious though - did he meet with Nebraska's coaches or the SDSU coaches?

Is SDSU on the radar? That would be huge.

The Nebraska coaches were there..... here is what I am hearing and I will mention I haven't talked to Reiff but I will over Christmas break. The Nebraska coaches (Peleni (sp) and an assistant) were there sometime this week; I heard he is concerned he will be pushed beside there because he is 3rd or 4th on the DE list of recruits and the one guy I think is a 5 star recruit. I was told that Brookings is a possibility and he is considering it pretty heavy his sister and many of his friends go there and has gone up to Brookings many weekends this past year.... He said this to a friend of mine... If Vinitari can go pro from Brookings that means if I am good enough to go pro I can go pro out of Brookings..... But honestly I don't know much and I will know more when I talk to him.

Anything to the rumor about a wrist injury for Reiff? Is that playing a factor? From what I heard today, I think there might be something to the rumor about Reiff not attending NU. I guess we will see.

Ya well he was in Iowa this weekend I know he visited Iowa not sure if he visited any other schools in Iowa.... I'm guessing that Nebraska is no longer the front runner.....

For some reason I just can't see him coming to SDSU. I'm not sure Stig would want to waste his time on someone who can't stay committed to a school for more than 2 weeks or whatever. No doubt Reilly is a good player, but he seems to have a commitment phobia.

I think that's an unfair judgment. He's an 18-year-old trying to make a decision that will have a huge impact on the rest of his life. It's hardly surprising that, given the coaching change, he'd be reexamining his options. This sort of thing happens all the time. It doesn't suggest anything negative about a young man's character that he wants to make sure he makes the right decision for his future.

I talked to him about it and he said it is a lot more then most people think.... he said he committed to Iowa too fast the first time but he said he was getting so many txt not just from the coaches but from players and other people who thought he should go there he thought if he committed it would go away but after he committed he had second thoughts.... he said as soon as he opened up his recruitment again it got worse then with the coaching change he just didn't know what the deal was..... He said he has gotten a letter, a call and a dozen txt from schools that he didn't even know existed and they all say the same thing... come here and then a bunch of bs.... I think the reason SDSU is being considered is because the ones that are telling him to go there are the people that actually know him (friends and family) rather then people that met him when he went and visited there or people that think it would be cool to know a guy that played for Iowa or Nebraska but don't know what is best for him.

So true. He's certainly not alone. Nebraska had 24 verbals the last week of October. That number's down to 19 today.

What everyone seems to be missing with Riley is that he is a small town South Dakota kid. Maybe he needs to just sit down, calm down a bit and really try to figure out what is important to him. If that's SDSU then great, but he is never going to reach his full potential unless he is completely satisfied with his decision, whatever that is. I'm just hoping he has some good strong people around him that have his best interests in mind and can help him through this time.

One other note...Its obvious in the world of Big Time recruiting that many of these schools forgot the number one rule of sales "Know who you are selling to." The big push and text messages from everywhere so you feel like a rockstar may work for many kids but here is an example of a kid who it isn't working for.

Oh yeah, and you can bet Stig and the rest of the coaches would love nothing more than to have Riley chose SDSU regardless of his indecision, because there is a good chance they know the kid pretty well already and know what he is about.

That was the one reason they were hesitant to can Callahan... The guy recruited big time, but so did Matt Doherty at UNC but he could never win with the talent he brought in...
