Glad we won (der), but, and I'll preface this by saying that I have 'no' football mind whatsoever, I just don't understand some of our play calls. Perhaps someone can enlighten me.

I don't recall the situations now, but the first call I questioned was a 3rd and 5 I think at some point early in the game (we were going south) and we ran one of those corner fades where Sumner lobbed it up for our guy to get it that you see a lot in the endzone, except we ran it at about the UNI 25 yd line (I hate that play even when it works, it seems like the percentage of success is so low)....seemed like a horrible call given the fact that the wind was blowing so hard in the direction the ball was thrown and guess what, it sailed and was incomplete.

The second play call I didn't understand was a 3rd and 2 late in the game (the first OT?, I don't remember) where we lined up shotgun and ran a draw, effectively making a 3rd and 2, actually a 3rd and 7 and naturally got stuffed.

Anyhow, we won. Always nice to beat UNI.

Also, I swear the UNI punt returner touched the ball on the 2nd quarter punt.

Agreed on the attendance thing. Pathetic. I knew once I got there there was no way we were even gonna hit 8k. Terrible terrible.

Where I was sitting, I think you are right, the UNI PR touched the ball, but what was worse was Farley getting the face of the White cap or lead official. That was terrible. It was like it was the world series or something. I hope the commissioner fines him for doing that.

Attendance could have been better but 7900, is better than 5000 which is what ISU Blue drew today against the Bizon. The Bizon faithful apparently took the day off.

It seamed like the officials this year have stopped calling the helmet to helmet contact or the defenseless receiver penalties. I saw many hits by UNI that had cost us 15 yards last year.

Agreed. I distinctly recall Hubert taking an intentional forearm to the head after catching a ball.

Refereeing usually doesnt bother me but it was awful today. Completely missed the hold on Peugh on a 3rd down and UNI converted it and then scored. Have no idea how they missed that. Wasnt the only blatant hold they missed. I'm pretty darn sure the returner touched that punt as well.

Great to see Butler returning punts. I also like the 2 returner set. Glad PR is finally shored up.

Kickoff was kind of a mess today. I liked the lob kick due to the wind but man we need to be able to cover it. Kind of nuts. UNI had way too short of a field for about 3 drives in a row.

What happened on the long field goal that came up way short? Did he just hit it wrong or hit the ground? Couldn't see what happened from my vantage point but was surprised it came up so short.

Too bad we got the holding penalty on the draw play. ZZ is so good in the open field. On that note, how about running a draw! Glad to finally see us run draw. Perfect type of play call given ZZ's abilities. Would love to see a screen or two as well. ZZ just keeps proving he's the best back in the conference. His ability to gain yards after contact is unmatched. Just incredible.

D was much maligned after last week. Glad to see them rise to the challenge today when they had to do it.

Kollmorgen is really good. So is Vereen. Less than impressed with David Johnson. Maybe he's still dinged up.

I agree with Butler and the two returner scheme - I think that has been a huge positive. Kickoff it seemed liked we had guys int spots to make plays and just didnt make them. We do need to get that shored up. The last couple weeks with all the touchbacks maybe we just got to comfortable.

I think we showed a few different wrinkles on offense which was great to see. I think their defense is pretty good but I felt we out played them most of the day. That was good to see. We have not showed many screens on offense and thought we had some chances to do that today.

Defense came up when we needed them to. We need to be better at fitting gaps and such but not bad today.

Some things to shore up but we have corrected some mistakes and gotten better each week. That is good to see.

Alot of people are talking about the UNI punt returner touching the ball - I thought so too.

Dont forget another missed call, one that helped us was the fumble on their sideline. I couldnt see it well from my view(UNI bench in the way), but immediately got two texts that said it was an obvious fumble.

Rowdy, I don't remember the first play but I do remember the draw. It was a decent play call but UNI had a blitzed coming from the left side. I believe it was their OLB (I just can't say for sure 100%). It was a perfect call by UNI for that draw play. Sometimes things just don't work out. I'm not sure though if a lineman could have picked him up. I only caught a quick replay on the scoreboard.

what at you need to do, is capture a still shot of the ideal spot in your teams favor, then post said picture all over the Internet message boards so the other FCS schools fans can form an opinion to help you feel better!

it worked for UNI fans after our game with them so it must work....

I agree with everyone about the uni receiver touching the punt. But then the officials seemed confused all day. And to the guys in sec j around row 14 or 15, youre hilarious. If any of u are on here, keep entertaining us.

I thought there were fair share of missed/blown calls against both teams. Doesn't seem to be justified to be thanking/blaming the officials for this one regardless of who you root for.

Just pointing out calls went both ways, thats all.

My apologies for the confusion. I was using your quote as an illustration to my statement. I agree with what you were pointing out.

Stressfully fun game!!! What a ballsy and awesome play by Butler on the punt return. Sumner played really good sans 3 miss throws on open receivers and the int, the 4th miss throw looks to be more the fault of a confused Larves Jones. Sumner's best play of the game was when he lowered his shoulder and dove for the first down in the 2nd ot, that play got me really fired up! Between the two bad throws to Wesley and Wesley's drop, one has to wonder if they just don't have a connection with each other right now...they have failed to connect multiple times this season. Thankfully that can be worked out in off season throwing sessions. Schneider and Hubert were money, and I think it was great that the coaches activated Jones and Landberg(he only had one catch, but he had more shake than I thought he would) and allowed them to play so much. This lets the rest of the team know that they could lose their spot if they don't perform, and everybody will have a chance if they keep working. It's already been said in this thread, but our tackling is atrocious this year compared to last season. Also, Syrovatka needs to get his mind right because we can't afford to leave any points on the field if we want to beat 605 or YSU on the road.

We finally got some breaks to go our way and we took advantage of them. Time for the guys to rest up, get healthy and make a final push!
