    Re: YSU game day thread

Sumner was a lot better, hopefully he builds on this. The only issue I had is I thought they should have tried a little harder to establish the run in the second half, instead of chucking it all around, and ultimately making it so the defense had to be on the field longer. But again much better with the offense hopefully a solid step for the next 2 weeks.

Team played so sloppy for most of the fourth quarter. Liked the fact we were throwing down the field. But the team really relaxed in the second half on defense and some of the play calling was bad. Also liked the play action.

Did Jacks win this game by 13 over the 21st-ranked team (GPI) and throw for over 350 yards, while leading by 34 at one point?*

Maybe our receivers can run decent routes after all.I think they took more than their fair share of blame here during the last few days. Today showed that if the QB puts the ball where it needs to be that our passing game is just fine.

five, we were about even in the series that goes back a few years.

Actually, this series is not about even. Jacks are up 9-5 all-time, a 64% winning percentage.

                  Re: YSU game day thread

Great game and great win over a good but not great youngstown. Seems we just match up well with them. Cook didn't impress me and they didn't get much for passing until we played soft coverage in the second half. Play action worked great. As good as the passing game was it missed some big ones. Rollins has some butter fingers. His td was great though but he bobbled the pass that was returned int fot a pick 6 that wasn't sumners fault. Sumner also missed hubert wide open in the second half that would have been a td walked into the endzone.

Special teams for both teams struggled. Botched punts and we missed in xp and botched fg. Kick coverage and return was good like usual.

D in the first half was amazing. The first td we gave up we had chances to stop them on third and fourth downs but with 2 payton canidates they proved good on that drive. Otherwise the whole first half we frustrated them and they didn't look good at all. Didn't like the soft coverage late in the game but I get the bend don't break mind set.

Over all great win and great to see a passing attack that we new we had. Even though zenner didn't bust a long one or get huge yards running game still was good. Good blocking and worked mostly when we needed it too. Just in the second half not able to keep drives going well. Team should be proud to come back and win like they did. That's what playoff quailty teams do. Learn from misakes and don't let them keep you down. Not sure I really felt 6-2 was possible at this point when the season started but I am so happy for the team. They have worked their butts off and it shows.

One final note I hope we can get more down field chances and use that play action pass. Youngstown bit a lot and we had wr slipping over the deep coverage almost every time. Hope they enjoy the win but not settle to be happy with it. Plently yo keep working on if they want to make the playoffs.

Oh yeah one more final final note. The wr ran great routes and got open finally. When they get open they can do great things. Just missed a few that should have been catches but very promising game for the wrs. Hubert is fun to watch. He seems to cross the middle of the field fearless on routes and he had a great game. His grandpa was sitting close to us in section J I believe. Should be very proud of what he has done so far at sdsu. He had a heck of a game. Congrats wrs and thanks for proving us fans wrong.

Subtract out the five D-1 era wins and we are 4-5. We lost a few when YSU had Ron Jaworski. I can see where you question my comment about being even. I meant to say prior to D1, the series was even, and if your 9-5 is accurate, then we were about even at that point in time. I agree the d1 era has been good to the Jacks when we have played YSU.

I am pretty sure we beat YSU when Jaworski was Qbing for them back in the early '70s.

. We did beat them at their house in 1973, I was at that game since I lived in Dayton at the time. I know for certain we did not beat them in 1979. The media guide says we lost to them 35-21 in 1974 and beat them again in 1975 38-21. The 2007 media guide says the series was 4-4 and last time played was 1979. Since Jaworksi NFL career begain in 1974, it had to be the 1973 game. I wish now I had the game program.

That was a fun game. Could have done without the 21 unanswered points in the 2nd half, but I'll take a 13 point win.

Wrong again. The last season Jaworski played at YSU was in 1972. SDSU beat Youngstown 34-22. This was according to the YSU web site and Hall of Fame members.
