      Re: Time for a change?

My thoughts would be to see how O'Brien does against Cal Poly and than decide.

I thought he played pretty well against SUU but obviously didn't fare very well to Illinois. But like coach said, not many players did. I'd like to see how he plays against teams at our level and judge him on that.

That being said, all you ever here about O'Brien is that he has a strong arm. Not really sure how that strong arm comes into play when we don't ever throw the ball further than 15 yards downfield. I'm pretty sure any of the three QB's we have can throw the swing passes and 4 yard slants that seem to be the core of our offense.

Illinois just put everyone in the box and dared us to try and complete a deep ball.

Yes, it is time for a change! A new O-coordinator/play caller. This has nothing to do with today. Meadows is horrible, I don't care how anyone tries to spin this. Lack of creativity, predictability, our last 2 QB's have regressed under his leadership. Tell me another program where the last 2 upper classman QB's have regressed and have been replaced by underclassmen (yes I am assuming Sumner will take over soon).
You can put Sumner in there, but without the backup of solid play calling it won't matter. Last week we ran swing pass after swing pass. This week, Illinois watching any bit of film, saw this and keyed. We run the swing pass the 2nd or 3rd play today and they destroy it. Meadows sucks, I see high school teams with better play calling.

TOB gets the start for the Cal Poly game. He started when we beat SUU and guess who SUU beat today.. #12 Sac State 35-14. We are sitting in good position. Win vs Poly and we are 2-1 with a loss to Illinois.

If TOB has a stronger arm then Sumner then we're in a world of hurt. I've never seen passes fly nose down like I did TOB's today. There was no zip at all. At least when Sumner threw his couple to the flats they looked like they were thrown by a college QB.

I'll echo that I've seen more creativity from high school teams. Heck, the 9th grade team I coached the past couple years had a more complex running game than I've seen SDSU show.

TOB should get another shot against FCS competition, but Sumner needs a look too.

                  Re: Time for a change?

Just something I noticed while I was listening to the game. They kept mentioning that we hadn't scored an offensive TD since the Iowa State game. Who was the qb for the other 3 games? TOB. Now, do I think that he should have shredded the teams we played? No. Is some of it on the play calling? Probably. Does anyone think that we don't have a wild and exciting passing game like when Berry was here has something to do with the fact that TOB is holding the play calls back? I do. I also feel that during the FBS games that the teams should have some success, just like the D and rushing game had against Minnesota and Nebraska. Not scoring one offensive TD at all has to come back to the QB play eventually. I think the coaches will pick the best for the program however.

High School teams? More like powder puff teams.

It starts with the game plan and moves on to the calls.

Your post expresses and states what is obvious to many people. Very well written along with Mitchell's as always.

When does Stig step up as head coach and address the Meadow problem? If not soon, the AD's might start thinking jobs are on the line.

There is talk of a stadium expansion. It doesn't help to play this brand of football. The AD's are going to want winning football in order to keep the expansion talk going. Cal Poly is a huge game next week.

Cal Poly lost 37-24 I believe to a very good Montana team at Montana. We will be the home opener for Cal Poly next week. Oh Brother!!!

Major fail on all aspects of the game except special teams. There was some bright spots. Zenner in his return, Zenner carrying the ball on that series he was the prime runner, power guy like Minnet. why no more series after that? Sumner play in that series he was in. Sorry but he looked way more confident that TOB even in that short span. He's taller and heavier that O'Brien and looks maybe more mobile. and he didn't stare down his reciever. we need a QB that is not afraid to run when his recievers are covered. a oc that is not afraid to let his qb run and throw farther thatn three yards and find the quys that can play and leave them in, not switch off every play. granted Stig was giving guys a chance to play in an embarrasing display of lack of football ability by a team.

Sumner does not have the arm TOB has, anybody who thinks this is misinformed, ask players or people around the program.

This isn't about just this one game but rather TOB's overall body of work. No he didn't lose the game for us but nobody can question how bad he looked. I don't care who we are playing, you can't be as bad as TOB was. Staring down receivers, inaccurate passes, poor decisions... no matter who the opponent is, he makes the same mistakes over and over again.

And I have talked with people around the program and there is absolutely no concern with Sumner's arm strength. He can make any throw TOB can make but more accurately. I think this comes down to Stig being too nice. I think he definitely wants TOB to succeed and I think making the decision to make the change is hard for him to do. He is however the head coach and he needs to address this issue. Saying TOB needs to play better week after week isn't going to cut it anymore.

I do however agree that the play calling is ridiculous. I think Stig also needs to address the issue of Meadow's poor offensive strategy and play calling. No matter who the QB is, we have to have some sort of vertical passing game.

                              some more TOB stats. pick six's 2009- 2, 2010-2, 2011-2 (in two games). how he did in big games- 2011- Illinois 8-18-2, 37yds, 0 tds, 1 pick 6; 2010- Delaware 23-45-3, 225yds, 0tds. Nebraska 12-28-2, 95yds, 0 tds. UNI 22-37-2, 230yds, 2tds. Indiana St. 20-41-2 ,169yds, 1td. NDSU 18-42-4, 247yds, 1td, 2 pick 6. 2009- Cal Poly 13-25-2, 98yds, 0tds, 1 pick 6. SIU 16-25-1, 181 yds, 2tds. Minnesota 15-39-2, 183yds, 0tds. Montana 14-27-3, 198yds, 3tds, 1 pick 6.

am I a fan of TOB? I was but no more. Should Stig have put in Sumner earlier yesterday and ruin TOB's confidence? Didn't Pelini pull Martinez against an FCS school? yes against SDSU.

These are interesting stats. If TOB continues at the rate of two INT's per game he will have 22 at the end of this season and will break the 2010 season high of 15 by 7. He has to either get better or Sumner here we come, right back where started from. Then again one can use stats to paint an ugly picture.
