For some reason Meadows plays work better against the thirds string D than the 1 st team D.

Sumner did look comforable and threw to recievers not targets.

To be fair, it was easier after Illinois D backed out of their press coverage they were playing most of the game. We did absolutely nothing to make them pay for it early in the game. Coaches & players got absolutely worked in this one.

The loss should be blamed not on 1 or 2 or 3 but damn near everyone. I thought the punter did a pretty good job, other then that nobody did much including the coaches.

The offense couldn't get thing started, the offense line and backs couldn't get a running game started, the pass plays that were called I thought somewhat played into there scheme and just made things worse.

The defense gave up big plays and a lot of them. The line couldn't get pressure alone, and the defensive backs couldn't stick with there receivers alone. That is code for a bad game.

The coaches I thought made a mistake trying to play the same game they would normally play. I would have liked them to go for it on that 4&1 when down 28. But in general why not throw a trick play out there early or go deep or just something.

I expected the offense to struggle, but the defense looked really bad, they really pointed out the flaws in the defense. really picked a part the secondary and made it so more had to drop back.

you can bet that cal poly will be looking at the film of this game and try to do what illinois did. if there aren't adjustments made by the coaching staff, next week and the rest of the year could be brutal. like it or not, that's how i see it.

I sat behind your bench today about ten rows up, after the first few possesions everyone was up and cheering. After one touchdown I saw the life literally leave the side line, maybe it was just me but has your qb always had a chip on his shoulder? I'm not here to stir up any arguments but I was glad to see the score at half time because I really wasnt sure about this team and had a few questions. After the pick 6 the starting qb just seemed like he was going through the motions, but I wish you guys luck for the rest of the year!!

Want some silver lining for the day (besides the punting and special teams coverage being great)? Southern Utah beat Sac State by 21 today. Sac State beat Oregon State last week. So maybe the Jacks really aren't that bad.

I've been a sarcastic ass in this thread about pulling TOB, but I would not be against putting Sumner in. I just don't think it will solve anything other than getting him experience. The offense philosophy is bad and needs to be changed.

U hit the nail on the head.. Its the PHILOSOPHY more than anything. We can try and sugarcoat this all we want but the bottom line is we NEVER threaten the opponents secondary- they have 8 or 9 guys in the box which makes it difficult to run the ball as well. I think Sumner deserves a shot but until we change the system it probably won't matter much!!

Obviously highlights show the Illini at their best, but the St. Louis NBC outlet's clips were humiliating. The Jacks looked like the football version of the Washington Generals. I'm sure the D was worn out but there's something very wrong with TOB. At the risk of regaling Nidaros with fifty year old memories, he kind of reminded me of sixties USD QB Bruce Smebaken who was hit so many times behind a non-existent line that he developed a serious case of PTSD. Remember walking up behind him in a bar one time and the reaction was interesting to say the least.

Hey, what the hell is up with this quote in today's story? "Their quarterback was real good," Jacks safety Skyler Luxa said. "All of a sudden, he'd break for 20 or 30 (yards). It seemed like it happened a lot. Not much you can do."

1) It DID happen a lot. 2) Here's a thought about what you can do...tackle him.

That said, this is division 1 college football. Occasionally the QB needs to throw footballs to recievers that look covered and let them make a play. He needs to anticipate where the reciever will flash open, and get the ball out on time. We don't have the 'elite' recievers that the QB can wait to see running wide open before he makes the throw, and expect them to still be open when the ball gets there. We do have recievers that can make plays on the football when givin the chance.

I did not see receivers run deep routes or attack the middle of the field deep, but I watch line play, not the ball. Plan on watching the DVR to confirm.
