Where did I say he was wrong? I was simply stating there shouldn't be any reason why he wouldn't play. It wasn't even aimed at him at first, but my opinion hasn't changed. There should be no doubt. Also, the main reason I'm guessing they haven't said anything is because it makes Kansas somewhat prepare for Kline who is more mobile that Sumner. That is the main reason IMHO.

You most likely did not say he was wrong. YE comment sort of made me want to pile on. Lets hope you are right and Sumner has the reins on Sept 1. Seems to me it would be painful to battle through sprained thumbs for 11 games though. Hopefully the thumb will heal quickly.

Not trying to argue your point at all. I think Sumner expects to play and if he can show the coaches that the injury is not hampering his ability I expect he will play. He is going to have pain and limited mobility in that thumb, right hand and that may alter his effectiveness. My impression, he is a tough kid that wants to lead and expects success.

I screwed up my thumb playing baseball one time. Its one of those injuries that you can't just toughen out. You can't tape it, pop a pain pill and go at it and be 100% because its so much feel to your game; yeah Brett Favre did it, but how many others have? I had no problem toughening the pain out, it was having the feel to throw a baseball. And from my understanding (and all thumb injuries are different even those with same/similar diagnosis) my thumb injury was a lot less serious then this one, and from my experience its quite a bit easier to throw a baseball then it is to throw a football.

And if Stig is holding out Sumner because he wants to try to trick Kansas into changing their game plan well then hes way more creative then he has been the last 15 years.

I'd just like somebody with the team/on the staff to verify that it's a thumb. I read TV's blog today about HIPAA. Personally, I think that's pure bunk when it comes to football injuries, but it is what it is. We're all day-to-day, I guess. Just like every player on the Patriots' roster. Time will reveal all.

Obviously I hope Sumner is healthy enough to play this Saturday...but a little part of me is intrigued by seeing what Kline can do.

If there is a chance that a hit could aggravate the injury,I don't see an upside to playing Austin. We all believe the Jacks can come out with a win on Saturday, but realisticly the odds are probably not in our favor. Having Sumner healthy for the conference season is way more important to me. And while putting Kline right in the fire is not an ideal situation,it will give him valuable experience if we need him later in the season, which is likely.

I too would like to see Klien, simply because this is what back ups are for.It would be very good experience for him,and would give Summner another week or so to heal his injury better. If things start to unravel, then you might have to risk agravating the injury and possibly delaying a full recovery for Austin.Best case scenario,Klien performs better than anyone predicted and we beat KU,and Summner's thumb gets healed up.Worst case, well, you know.I'd like to see Klien start, and not risk further injury to Austins thumb, and only put him in if we have to.Just my opinion.

I want the hand specialist and those treating him (PT or AT) to give the coaches the information needed for them to make a decision that will be best for the football team as it pertains to the ultimate goal which is making the playoffs and winning a national championship. Austin's own desires to play are secondary to that in my opinion. If he dislocated his thumb ligaments that hold the thumb in place have been strained (stretched) or torn and the joint will be unstable. No amount of bracing or taping can equal the stability present before injury. If they feel he is safe to play and he can go, Sumner deserves to start. If not, Kline should be expected to be equal to the challenge of stepping in and backing him up.

Plans are in place for our trip. They guys are leaving early Friday. Checking into the Oread and heading for the KU bar scene. Ladies are coming later. Planning to set up on "the hill" in the morning Saturday. Ordered a couple of "tailgater" packages from Biggs BBQ. 25-30 of us are planning to be there along with anyone else that wants to stop by. Weather is going to be beautiful, really looking forward to a great time.

I am sure the question will come up tonight as Cubbys in Brookings is hosting the first (Stig) show. I think they call it the Stig show? I am hearing that expectations are that Sumner will play. If I were a betting person I would bet Stig holds him out of the KS game to insure he is ready when the Jacks go to S.E. LA the following Saturday. This KS game is a money game and has little impact on competing for the Valley championship or making the playoffs. I am also hearing that Kline is a quality QB. My expectations for Saturday vs KS is that we compete regardless of Sumner or Kline at QB. Lets stay healthy, pick up our check and move on!

I am also hearing that Parker returned to practice this week. That's good news for our offensive line.

I think something that alot of people are not taking into consideration is the amount of steam and motivation that a win could bring to the entire season. I believe personally that Sumner gives us the best shot to do this. If he can grip a ball and show something even in a Friday walk-through then I say he is a go.

If he is capable of playing like Austin Sumner then play him. If he shows any weakness because of his thumb then play the backup.
