I was but only had talked to him a few times. Very quiet, but genuine kid. Always very nice.

I think--but am not positive, one played a little at the top level while the other was AAA. In any event, the distinction made is first guy who played for SDSU and then played in the Bigs in 85 years! He won't be the last. Right, 76?

I lived with Caleb for a few years and he's just a great dude. Very down to earth...loves to hunt and fish and loves chatting about the Jackrabbits.

Hopefully he stays up and can keep carving!

Heck of a job to the Kid!!

Almost gave one up to Upton. Great job by Caleb. Can't imagine the nerves he had in his first MLB appearance. It's extremely tough to make the big leagues......what an accomplishment!

I got a call and 2 texts within about 2 minutes of his first pitch. Great to see a Jackrabbit in the major leagues!! He has made us all very proud alums.

This is great news. Had a chance to see it on tv. Not an exciting play but how about the rare play where he caught an infield pop up? Pitchers hardly ever do that.

Serious question: In the pantheon of Jack athletes, doesn't this elevate Thielbar over Wolters, at least for the moment, despite all the attention paid to Wolters and the upcoming draft? Making the bigs in baseball is a huge deal.

I think so, but I'm a big baseball fan and a big Twins fan. Wolters though will be front and center if/when drafted and if/when he makes the NBA.

Only if Thielbar becomes a regular in the MLB and Wolters hardly plays in the NBA.Both are awesome for State.

Thielbar is going to have his ups and downs soon. Once teams can scout him they'll know what they're looking for.

I don't know. I get a sense he was not brought up to mop up games but to be a real lefty specialist to add some balance in the bullpen. Left-handed specialists are the hardest MLB players to scout and prepare for because they often are brought in at the most advantageous times for them to face a lefty batter or two. My guess is he will not be a two-inning guy much. This is why good situational lefties hang around so long in the game. Some hitters may see him once and then not see him again for three months.

Wolters has helped the brand more than Thielbar and if/when Wolters gets drafted and hopefully stays in the league. College brands are helped more in basketball than baseball IMO once you make th league. Harder to make MLB than NBA? Maybe. That doesn't mean it helps SDSU more. I think that elevates you as an athlete and making it to NCAA tournament in back-to-back years helps as well as being a Summit League regular season champ, 2X postseason champ and League MVP.

With that said, this is a great accomplishment for Thielbar, the Jacks and his family. It is a big deal pitching in the majors and should not be taken lightly. Intrigued to see what he can bring to the table in his career.

Not so serious reply: I'm thinking about starting a message board poll: Which is a bigger deal? 1) Wolters getting drafting and playing in the NBA? 2) Thielbar joining the Twins? or 3) Working the word "pantheon" into a message board discussion. I'm going with 3.

The pantheon would include Langer, Rasmussen, Lingenfelter, Moss (if he catches on) and who else?
