      1) Again, with a divisional arrangement the E. schools would still be making exactly one trip to the Dakotas per year

      2) UVU has less to offer than the UxDs. You can bet your bottom dollar that they were one of the schools that applied for Summit League membership (current NCAA regs prohibit conference moves until 2011), as they're presently unaligned.

The presidents decided to visit USD & not UVU.

Furthermore, they decided to schedule over 170 meetings while at USD.

That means that the conference is very serious about USD and not remotely interested in UVU.

We know the fan potential is there to support the Men once a better product is put on the floor. I think what USD can do from a attendence factor at the DI level is still to be determined. I would hate to see the conference go to two divisions as I think the way to deterime the best team is a home and away game against every conference foe.

the conference officials can do what ever they want though, I never said that the conference would want UVU.... I was saying that to get into the league the presidents have to approve it and I could see the presidents thinking that a UVU as more attractive then USD because it would get away from the Kansas City-Vegas flight, bus 3 hours to Cedar City, while crossing a time zone and play the next day at elevation.....

I'm pretty sure that extensive site visit at USD had the full blessing of the presidents. And that the exclusion of UVU, similarly, had the full blessing of the presidents. In fact, there were representatives (read: employees of) all 10 Summit schools included in the USD site visit.

It had the blessing of the majority of schools present at the vote. It had the cooperation of all 10 Summit League schools. There is a difference.

UVU does not have the academic credentials the Summit League is looking for. I wonder about the long term viability of SUU in the league.

Some inside info was passed along to me by some USD boosters and said today that USD will be accepted to the Summit league and they will continue in football where they are at until our league gets revamped and that UND wll not be accepted and they thought that if they just got rid of the FIGHTING and left it at SIOUX they might be in the clear.

Also, not sure if posted but in 2010 USD football will play Central Florida and the next week will play Minnesota ( which has been mentioned) that is two good paydays.

USD women received $75,000 for playing UNC before the women's tourney!

                  Just some rambling!

Does the Summit want them? Would the Summit consider dividing the confernce north and south if UND and USD joined (North: SDSU, USD, NDSU, UND, UMKC, SUU)? Would love to play the "north" schools twice a year and the others just once, meaning you would only have to make the Centenary/ORU trip once every two years.
Once they get a new name they will join. Originally I thought it was a bad idea but now after watching USD join, I like the idea. They could help take the "non football sports" to another level.

Let's face it. NDSU/SDSU/UND/USD have a tremendous history. NDSU/UND and SDSU/USD were the premeire shows before the D1 move but the NDSU/SDSU and UND/USD rivalries have been stepped up a notch since we made the D1 jump. (Ironically enough, the football attendance records that were once UND/USD are now NDSU/SDSU. We're talking about 2 big time rivalries here! HUGE!

I don't buy all the crap that it's the old NCC. First off, the NCC in it's prime was the best D2 conference on the planet. Second, it's the BEST TEAMS of the old NCC and we all have more scholarships now and we play against other great teams like Oral Roberts and Oakland and have a shot to go to the big dance and play on ESPN!

Gone are the teams like St Cloud, Augustana, Mankato, Western Washington, and Nebraska Omaha. They are being replaced by budding rivalries with teams like Oral Roberts, Western Illinois, Oakland, IUPUI, and IPFW!

By adding both schools, it's a lock that NDSU/UND, SDSU/USD, NDSU/SDSU, USD/UND, NDSU/USD, and SDSU/UND will have massive crowds twice a year. These are TV games. That's 12 great games and we haven't even gotten to Oral Roberts and Oakland yet much less the Summit League Championship or a birth to the Big Dance!

                    That creates excitement!

BULL. its wiping out 5 years of marketing/exposure advantage that NDSU/SDSU had.

and letting these small lesser schools like und and usd join up with us.

                      ridiculous!!!

NDSU and SDSU should be trying to UNITE Missouri Valley Football and Basketball instead of helping the summit and HELPING und/usd.

It's not 1995. I think the rivalry is being overstated. I doubt if the old days (which I fondly remember) will be coming back any time soon.

Maybe we are just trying to find a replacement for us when we move to the MVC in all sports Just kidding... kind of... I would welcome an opportunity for the XDSUs to compete in the MVC, but I don't see any indication of that happening for a while.

I can only echo here, that UND is in once they change their mascot name and get rid of that Chicago BLack Hawk Logo. Its funny that the NHL on behalf of the Chicago Black Hawks have not bothered UND about their logo as its almost identical to the Chicago Black Hawk logo. Its not only the Sioux Tribes in ND that they need to worry about, but their logo if kept might also be a problem.

I think once they UND sees all the excitement coming out of Vermillion, they may push this logo issue to the front burner. I be surprised if they sit on it much longer.

As far as a resumption of the NCC, I dont think so. SDSU and USD played both UND and NDSU before 1921 the year the NCC was started so the rivalries pre date the NCC.

I posted basically the same on the Summit Divisions thread, but looking at the different geographies of east/west or north/south splits, I think UND better be moving quickly on the mascot issue. If the conference has 5 other prospects, and depending on location and profile, a slow moving UND could be left out. I don't know who the other schools might be, but if there is one that would be closer to the southern schools to help ease their travel costs when/if the conference splits into divisions, you would think they would be a strong contender.

I think UND has a VERY good likelyhood of getting in, but they need to end the issue now.

Think about it awhile. If the jacks could no longer be called the jackrabbits, what would you call your team? Not that many cool critters roam the upper plains, jackrabbits,(best), coyotes, bison, are taken, that leaves beavers, possums, racoons, skunks(definately out of the question), numerous birds, or types of people past (pirates, homesteaders, miners, (i think that's taken already)I think rather than re-name, just show the sioux tribes the respect they want & negotiate with them & come up with some type of agreement with them that will satisfy both sides.
