I don't know about the Super 8. I stayed at that one on Russell one time after a wedding. One of the guys in the wedding party was a crime scene investigator from Des Moines. Upon checking out the next morning, he commented that he'd seen crack houses that were cleaner.

Nonetheless, this is great news. Whenever things like this happen, I remember living back in Brookings when we first announced we were going D-I. There was a large, Suburban-like vehicle in town that had a bumper sticker that said something like, "If SDSU leaves D-2, I shall have no choice but to cheer for the U." I never took that sort of stuff seriously; it just seemed riduculous to me. But I wonder what people like that are thinking now...

Sheraton for me, but then heck, I can just drive 1 hour from Yankton. I suspect the teams will occupy a good portion of the Sheraton's rooms. The Ramada across the street is great for kids. Stick them in the pool during the non-SDSU games.

Great news for SDSU and the state of South Dakota!!

Re: South Dakota to host Summit League Tourney

Once again, the Jackrabbits (and the Summit League) are getting publicity that just can't be purchased.  The Sioux Falls TV stations devoted a significant amount of time to today's announcement.  KELO had two stories: one as part of the regular news, and a second followup as part of "sports".

They're excited up in Fargo, too--at least posters on bisonville are getting fired up.  Sioux Falls is a nice drive for the Bison fans.

With this bid does SDSU have any responsibilties or is this all up to the Sioux Falls Sports commitee or whatever they are calling themself.

SDSU is the host school so we will have responsibilities.

Scott Nagy looked as loose as the laces in Aaron Johnston's neon-accented sneakers Wednesday morning.

Just two days after Summit League presidents voted to require all men's and women's basketball teams to have three full-time assistants on staff within five years, one more than South Dakota State currently has, Sioux Falls was chosen to host the 2009 and 2010 conference championships.

That means the Jackrabbits, based 50 miles north in Brookings but with a strong alumni base here, will have the home-court advantage in their first two years of NCAA championship eligibility.

"I thought about the other teams in the league that have been in the league," said Nagy, the SDSU men's coach, whose club begins conference play 2007-08, "and I don't know if I'd be particularly happy if I were some of those schools." . . . (read more)
