"We are a non-counter this year, so this year your argument holds water. After that, it is another excuse. Scheduling conflicts through 2012 is probably valid, so 2013 becomes the first year it could theoretically happen. "

How about you come back and post in 2013 then?

If you remove the student portion of the capicity (3000), then you hve 14,000 people paying $25/ticket. That is $350,000. Weigh that versus a trip to Nagodoches, Texas at an expense of $50,000, and what you have is a $400,000 swing. Now add back in corporate sponsorships, awards, naming rights, and there is an income potential of $500,000. In fact one of your posters came up with a plan as such.

        ...

Because as one of your fans pointed out, there are 500,000 reasons for doing it and all those reasons begin with a $. As both schools go to the state for money to make these programs fly, if our legislators had a brain, they would say.."why do you refuse to play the in-state school that would provide the largest dollars of revenue year in and year out?" Before we give either school any money, you will play each other.
I've stayed out of this for the most part, but will just go to a couple of your points. First the dollar amounts the other "plan" had are so unrealistic in so many aspects, it is really not worth discussing. But I'll address a couple of your points

-17,000 at CAS: are you saying that USD is coming to Brookings every year?

-3000 students: If this is "THE GAME" that you say it would be, it would be at least double the amount of students. Probably close to 7,000 (remember there are a heck of a lot more students in Brookings than in Vermillion). Knock off 4000 paying fans and the money is reduced $100,000. Now down to $150,000 (unless of course the game is never going to be in Vermillion).

-Corporate Sponsorships are already contracted for regular season, so to get extra money means SDSU would have to break existing contracts with sponsors, line up new sponsors, and get extra money. That won't ever happen. Treat sponsors or donors like crap and you get more problems, not more money.

-Awards? what are you talking about

-Naming rights? Well I suppose you could say we get naming rights for Beef Bowl, Cereal Bowl, etc. but not sure what the dollar amounts are, but no where near enough to make up for your previous assumptions. But I'll be generous to a fault and give you $50K (no idea where that would come from) and so we end up at best at revenue of $100K (again, unless of course the game is never going to be in Vermillion). But that comes at the cost of having exposure across the country which is a benefit of for the entire university, not just athletics.

-The State Legislature. All of the IA universities involved in the mandate have said it was a bad thing for them. You need to be able to follow some logic here, so read slowly: The games themselves are not bad for each university, however the requirement to have them is. Certain years it works for the schools, and other years it doesn't. It would be better for all of the schools to be able to schedule the games when it is a benefit, instead of having to do it. Any mandate to schedule an opponent is bad for both universities.

But the biggest problem of all with you thought process is that you are "the rival" to the south. I truly do not hear that from the vast majority of SDSU fans. I do not. I am at a lot of alumni events and it is a small minority of people that think it is bad that we don't schedule USD, a small minority that think we should never schedule USD, and the vast majority that say "whatever." If the fan base thinks "whatever" about an opponent, they are not a rival no matter what the opponent's fans think. You were a conference mate in the NCC, so was UNI. UNI is again a conference mate (FB) so based on your reasoning they could claim they are our big rival. They wouldn't and they aren't.

Do I think USD vs SDSU will never happen again? No, but if it does it isn't the most important game of the season, regardless of sport. In fact it is way down the list. All conference games are far more important, regardless of sport. And in case you hadn't noticed, none of the above relates to which team would win the actual contest.

Are you so naive to believe your fan base would prefer to play Georgia Southern or Cal-Poly as to USD? There would be only one word that would fit for those that say that.....FEAR. The fear of getting your bunnytails handed to you by your rival to the south.

You talk of all these great things, and what you have done, but I am now going to lean on your fan base to help me remember the last Jackrabbit team (mens) that made the playoffs in football or basketball? I am sure you have, but I just can't remember when. Holy cow, your football team got annialated by Iowa State, and Iowa State is pathetic. Your football team took a pounding at UNI, and the Coyotes dang near pulled that one out of the hat.

The truth of the matter is, if you really thought you could pound USD into oblivion, there is no doubt you would do it. And love it. The fact remains is you can't, and won't, because your school colors depict your backbone...YELLOW. CAS field sucks and you know it. Talk about a glorified high school facility.

Bottom line is this. You don't want to play USD because you have been in D-I longer, and the thought of of the Coyotes laying a good 'ol fashioned pasting on you is something you couldn't deal with.

I got new for ya all. You aren't that good. In football, basketball, or anything else for that matter. Your womens basketball team deserves alot of love, and I'll give you that. But other than that, this Coyote fan truly believes you don't have the stones to line up against USD in a major mens sport. I might be wrong, but I don't think so.
That is a pretty good post for the smack board. Now get back to watching the 6 game NAIA laced home stand your JV basketball team is mired in. Please try and lose to SWMS, that would help my bruised ego a bit. Are the games at the Vermillion HS gym or that building they host the farm show in?

Welcome to the board, stick around, it will be fun.

You know, I'm really a pretty easy-going guy. But I must disagree with our esteemed Doctor . . . this has to be one of the lamest smack attempts in the long and sorry history of sports smack on the Internet.

Let's put the shoe on the other foot for a second, OK?

            Attend:

I understand the smacking and smearing of SDSU in the post quoted here, it's what fans do.

(Golly, isn't this fun? I could go on, but then . . . why?)

Oh, by the way, O Self-Appointed Spelling Guru . . . it's "your women's basketball team" and "major men's sport." Note the apostrophes. Also, "alot" is not a word. And, I believe you possibly meant "news" rather than "new."

(Gosh dang it, criticizing spelling and grammar fun, too! I sure skewered him there, by golly!)

For your information, young Grasshopper, it's been considered pretty bush-league for a very, very, very long time to offer spelling criticisms in lieu of meaningful argument on the Internet.

Also, ad hominem attacks are generally frowned upon, when they are not being actively laughed at (as I freely admit I'm doing here).

As we on the board have discussed elsewhere, you're welcome to your opinion, and we're welcome to believe you're full of it. So far, you haven't provided any evidence for us to believe anything different.

I look forward to more amusing and interesting smack (or, perhaps, your eventual banning here.) Whatever.

The idea that USD belongs on the same field as SDSU in football is completely delusional. The yotes won one game against an FCS opponent this year, the Jacks won 7 and finished 3rd in one of the best conference in FCS, one or two plays away from the playoffs, the yotes can't say that. If we put the Jacks from this year up against the pups from this year, we won by 20 if not 30, even if it was in the Septic Tank. Your D would have no prayer against Berry and the receivers. NDSU which had the best ranked defense against the pass had problems stopping Berry, even when he was semi-conscious. The Jacks have been ranked in the top 25 at the end of the season the last 3 years (and most of this year), the yotes haven't sniffed the top 25 ranking.

We struggled against UNI but we were also without 3 defensive starters in a conference game, big difference from when you played them at full strength in a non-conference game.

CAS sucks?? Hey kettle, pot called, said your black. You play in a crap dome that needs to be imploded.

I don't want to play the yotes because it doesn't benefit the Jacks, at all. You guys don't matter to us anymore...at all. I've never seen a SDSU/U dot game, I don't want to. We have a great rivalry going with NDSU that is respectful and doesn't involve someone dropping a deuce in the locker room after a game.

Perhaps I should clarify. I meant to say that the post was most appropriate on the smack board and therefore not something to be taken seriously. I was not specifically commenting on the quality of the post itself. I should have said "that was a pretty good post for the smack board." That said, thank you for attempting to educate our vermin-like friend.

I hate to say anything about this, but as you admit, I am right. I might be taking this out of context but I just want to acknowledge that I appreciate you admitting when you are wrong and I am right. That was the point of my argument was it not? You are a non-counter and our schedule is full until 2012. And trust me, none of us would fear playing udot. You won one game at the FCS level. That doesn't translate to inducing fear in us.
