No clue where Iowa State will end up. My guess: C-USA or MAC.
As for Baylor, the MWC doesn't want them. My guess: C-USA or Sun Belt!

Re: Conference shifts
The Mountain West is at the bottom of KU's list. I have been keeping an eye out at kusports.com and there are lots of rumblings about KU heading to the Pac-10+a number yet to be determined."All I know is what I read on the message boards."

Re: Conference shifts
Its still all up in the air right now, but what about confrence names. the big 10 becomes the big 12 maybe, the pac 10 do they keep the pac and raise the number or change the confrence name completely after adding any midwest schools?"The most rewarding things you do in life, are often the ones that look like they cannot be done.” Arnold Palmer

Re: Conference shifts
According to numerous sources, Big 12 saved, disaster in the heartland diverted, at least temporarily.** I'll guess we will see.
On another note, Joe Schad of ESPN drives me nuts. His "inside info" almost always turns out ot be bogus. I hope ESPN gets the hint soon that he knows not of what he speaks. The guy at orangebloods.com ate him for lunch the last few days providing real sources that were actually accurate. Schad and his army of "sources" have no clue.
**ESPN didn't pick this up actually until numerous Texas, Kansas, and California papers got the info. I wonder if they do real actual reporting in Bristol or not."All I know is what I read on the message boards."

Re: Conference shifts
I haven't heard anything for a while so this may not be up to date anymore, but I wonder if the network that suddenly came forward with additional money for the Big 12 is CBS in an attempt to keep some sanity for March Madness.
I don't get everything on how this is supposed to work, but the Argus had a good graphic in its print version the other day that showed households in the television markets of the schools in Pac-10 & Big 12. Phoenix & LA have more households than in all the Texas & OK markets combined. I don't see how UT's own network is going to bring in the money they think it will, but from what I have heard, most cable insiders have said that the Pac-10's forecasts were way off the mark also.
Interesting times.

Re: Conference shifts
I'm seeing 3.1M households in Los Angeles county (30 minute -mean- commute time too sheesh), 1.1M households in Orange county, 1.2M households in Maricopa and Pinal counties (Phoenix), and that's 5.4M households total. There are also 243k households in Ventura county, 136k households in Santa Barbara county, 687k households in San Bernardino county, and 506k households in Riverside Co. That comes to roughly another 1.6M households for a grand total of about 7.1M households
There are about 7.4M households in Texas and another 1.3M households in Oklahoma, for a total of about 8.7M households in those states combined.
If you add San Diego county (1M households), you get 8.1M households. The Los Angeles/San Diego metroplex & Phoenix have about 600k fewer households than Oklahoma & Texas combined.
(all data per 2000 census).

Re: Conference shifts
I'll go with your data and, especially, your math over mine any day. Still, that works out to a much bigger potential market for the Pac-1X network. I suppose TX is counting on not splitting a smaller pie to end up with more calories.
I can see why Iowa St, Baylor, etc. are in favor of this, but why OU and Texas A&M, OSU, want to go down this road with Texas seems odd to me. Uneven distribution of revenue is what caused the instability in their conference before, and now they seem to be locking in even more uneven distribution in the future. If OU was considering the Pac-10, wouldn't they consider the SEC with Texas A&M? If not this year, in a year or two down the road?

I don't think this is the last work on matters, although it seems that only Nebraska was -really- peeved about the revenue question.
*Texas stands to earn between $20 million and $25 million annually in television revenue in the reworked deal, including money from its own network, according to Orangebloods.com.
The Longhorns' network figures to generate between $3 million and $5 million, according to the Orangebloods.com report. Because the Big 12 has unequal revenue sharing, the deal will mean more money for Texas, Texas A&M and Oklahoma, who all would receive at least $20 million annually from the new deal.
