Rumors are flying here that the Big 12 South sans Baylor will still head for the PAC-10.

Plus, apparently Okie State has already accepted a PAC-10 invite but won't announce it until next week.

This just seems an ill-advised move on the part of the Pac-x.

ESPN reports that Nebraska will apply to join the Big-10 and that the conference will accept.

            Re: Conference shifts

            Interesting comment from the World-Herald:

Perlman: The Big 12 asked for a commitment from NU through at least 2016. Nebraska, in turn, asked for a commitment from the University of Texas that it would assign all athletic broadcast rights to the conference and thus not begin its own network. Texas declined, he said.
I'll reiterate, the Pac-x should beware, lest they get what they want by inviting Texas.

I guess I am not sure how I feel about this. I can say I am not a fan of it. Seems nebraska is affraid to play texas and oklahoma and want an easier confrence for football. will be tough with Neb volleyball with penn state now. Not sure I am a fan of this but I guess it doesn't really matter what the fans think.

I don't think the quality of the current conference membership is much of a factor, if any at all. This seems to be about the dollars that a school can lock in for itself.

Agree 100% with this. That's why Nebraska tried to get Texas to assign its broadcast rights to the conference to even things out. Huskers knew they would never get a fair shake from Texas when it comes to the money.

As an aside, being affiliated with one of the best academic conferences in the country, research-wise especially, is a pretty nice grab for Nebraska as a university. There really isn't much comparison academically between the crumbing Big 12 and the Big Ten (or whatever it will be now) and I went to a Big 12 school! Don't get me wrong, there are some fine academic institutions in the Big 12 (KU included), but from top to bottom, Big Ten takes the cake pretty easily.

                    Re: Conference shifts

Last year Nebraska made 11 million dollars in conference revenue.

The University of Indiana made 21 million.

                    Pretty easy decision.

IMO, the Big 10 is a much better fit that the Big 12 ever was.

First I need to ask, Ive read the articles but don't recall seeing how Texas got a strangle hold on broadcasting rights? If the big 12 where to get competitve with broadcasting nationally would that not have solved the problem, or texas was agianst it or what?

Supposedly, the big XII has twice investigated forming a tv network of its own, but Texas has been staunchly opposed on both occassions.

After everyone jumps ship in the Big 12,or whatever....Those that are left without an invite to another conference, the un-wanted,will they try & rebuild a midwest conference, or will they keep shopping as independents? There's a lot of questions to be answered yet.How many institutions must there be to qualify for an auto matic bid....oops, there's other things too to consider too, like a new member doesn't count right away? This would probably be the end of the conference all together i assume if the membership drops below a certain number.Unless they can get new members in who don't mind waiting till they're full strength again, highly unlikely. What a bunch of crap because a few institutions get greedy. That conference was doomed as soon as they started stabbing each other in the back & no one could trust the other to tell the truth.Hope other conferences learn from all this. What's sad is the real victims are the teams without a home, they can all thank thier greedy former conference mates for putting them in this situation, although i doubt they'll feel any remorse for it, as that would actually require them to have a conscience. The Big Ten does it right, share equally.Of course, it's the Big Ten and the Pac-Ten who started this in the first place, they're no angels either.

It's likely that Kansas, K-State, AND Missouri will end up in the Mountain West partly so that the MWC will get automatic BCS status.

No clue where Iowa State will end up. My guess: C-USA or MAC.

As for Baylor, the MWC doesn't want them. My guess: C-USA or Sun Belt!
