So she cannot use the one-time transfer exception because she is a basketball player. It is the same scenario as Jill Young was in. Her playing status has nothing to do with her being released or not released. If she's released she can get a scholarship this year while NOT playing. If she IS NOT released then she CANNOT get a scholarship while NOT playing this year.

Noted and accepted. When I read that, I thought it said mens basketball, but what it says is mens hockey directly behind basketball. My daughter was a volleyball player so taht is why she was exempted.

Thank you all. Good discussion! Appreciate your knowledge!

No loss of a year of ellgibility though?

Alexis will have 3 years remaining when she is elligible to play in 2010 - 2011, correct?

You are correct on that one. She still has 3 years of playing time left.
Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!--Bluto--

As long as she didn't redshirt at ISU, she will have 3 years left. If she didn't redshirt then this year off because of transferring can essentially be considered a redshirt year as well.

Just to restate what the two previous posters said...

Sitting out a year because of a transfer counts against the 5-year clock but not the 4-year clock(as in you have five years to compete in four). If she redshirted as a freshman, the transfer would effectively cost her a year of eligibility. If she played as a true freshman, than she can use the year after the transfer to effectively redshirt.
