    Re: Colton Iverson

Responding to Mitchell: With the number of defections this year, the Gophers have had open scholarships for a while, haven't they? The other "rumor" you brought up has been put to rest by the subject.

Glad to hear the other rumor has been put to rest by the subject. That one was a bit worrisome. When and where was it layed to rest? Must have missed it.

yeah and if there was any truth to that rumor you can bet that SDSU won't release anybody that plans to step foot on Minnesota's campus after this.

The more I think about this, the more bizarre it is.

Men's basketball schedules are rarely set before summer. And, if the Gophers are in an early season tournament (the fields of which are not all set) how in the world is Iverson supposed to know who is and isn't going to be on Minnesota's schedule next year?

Now, sure, Minnesota is probably negotiating with schools--does this mean that they're going to clue Iverson in on their contract negotiations with non-conference schools, to give him an idea which schools he shouldn't be talking to?

            Like I say, bizarre.

(Not to mention the little fact that Iverson will have to sit out next year anyway as a transfer. Bizarre.)

Actually the Gophers didn't have any open spots before this. They lose two seniors plus Joseph transferring, and they have filled those three spots.

                    Re: Colton Iverson

I was reading about this story on the StarTribune and then I made the mistake of reading some of the comments. One cannot expect a high-level of debate in such comments but I took the following away: Most liked Colton's work ethic; many thought refs were singling him out; many are questioning why Tubby is losing people; more than a few question why some players are not progressing (i.e. better as freshmen, downhill from there); more than a few suggesting a replacement coach would be worthwhile (the last comment is to be expected whenever there's a bump in a team's road).

I watched quite a few Gopher games (on TV's Big 10 network) and often wondered why Colton wasn't getting more playing time...but, I suppose I'm biased since he was a SD kid and I watched him throughout high school.

                        Re: Colton Iverson

After watching Colton play really well against North Carolina and West Virginia in Puerto Rico, and in the other non-conference games,I thought he had turned the corner. Then he hit the Big Ten schedule and his minutes and his confidence went down the drain. The entire Gopher season went south after they lost their point guards and Hoffarber had to play the point. Tubby can't control injuries, but he and his staff certainly didn't do a great coaching job the last half of the season. Gopher fans look at Tubby's past success and what he is being paid, and some of the natives are getting restless and rightly so. The upcoming season will be the first with a team that are all his recruits. I would expect that if things don't improve in the next couple seasons that the heat will get turned up even more.

yeah, I know your joking, but if they had any interest do you think they would have blocked Iverson from transferring to SDSU?

I'm guessing any release of scholarship will have a Gopher clause in it for a while. Rumor was SDSU was one of the leaders and coaches aren't very happy about the Gophers blocking them from consideration.

So sign him on and cancel the payday game at Minnesota. They can get a payday game somewhere else.
