        According to this if the sport is basketball, hockey, or football you have to sit out a year.

          If he can't play right away why didn't they just say "Colton Iverson will be transferring from the U" instead of that he got his release.

          I am definitely not in the know in regards to transfer rules but I'm just wondering (along with everyone else).

              The way I understand it, it opens it up so coaches can now contact him.

                NO, you still have to miss a year unless a waiver is approved by the NCAA.

                  Re: Colton Iverson

                  you get your release you can actively be recruited, if you are not you have to enroll for a year before being part of the team. wait 2 years

                  You can apply for a waiver but generally those are family situations (family member is sick, or something like that) and with the small distance between Minneapolis and SDSU/USD I doubt that would get cleared.

                  once you sign the LOI you are bound to it as long as the school honors it for that year, if they release you before you are on campus you can join another school with out wait, this is what happened to Derrek Williams at Arizona. Once you are on campus you can transfer but have to wait 2 years, however if you are "released" from your scholarship you only have to wait the 1 year. A school does not have to "release" you but I believe they can not use that scholarship that year. Some conferences have 2 year wait periods for in conference transfers whether they are released or not.

                    The general rule for all student-athletes transferring from one four-year institution to another four-year institution is that they must spend one academic year in residence at the school to which they transfer before they may be eligible for competition. However, you may be eligible immediately upon transfer if you meet one of several transfer exceptions. [Note: During a student-athlete's initial year of collegiate enrollment, he or she only may use a transfer exception if they have been certified by the NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse as a qualifier.]

                    The most common transfer exception is the One-Time Transfer Exception. To be eligible to use this exception:

                    a. A student-athlete must be transferring to another four-year institution to participate in sports other than Division I basketball, Division I men's ice hockey and Division I football (unless the student-athlete is transferring from Division IA
                    to Division I-AA);

                      Heard this was a possibility for awhile now. Colleges being mentioned as future destinations for Colton are Augie, SDSU, Colorado St. And Oregon.

                        I merged the two Iverson threads into one in "College Athletics" until and unless Iverson decides to come to SDSU at which time we can move it back to SDSU Men's Basketball and pop champagne corks or whatever . . .

                          If he doesn't want to sit a year,Augie or another DII school would be the obvious choice. SDSU would be a fit, because we have 3 open scholarships and probably will not fill all 3 this spring.

                            Played summer ball with Schilling of Augie, believed it was the Heat. Made an appearance at Pub Crawl in Brookings this past weekend.

                                recruiting news based on Pub Crawl attendance. I like it.

                                Oregon was also where Joseph transfered if I'm not mistaken.

                                Rumor is SDSU and NDSU are both blocked for a release. people are guessing USD but IDK
