    Re: Colton Iverson

A source told me that Colton is not interested in SDSU for whatever reasons, but things can always change. Would love to see him in Blue and Yellow!

well it was changing so fast and nothing was being actually reported so there was no link to post. Just twitter stuff which I'd rather say rumor is then post a tweet saying rumor is.

I knew the Big 10 has a conference rule saying you can't transfer with in conference. But numerous people were saying other schools were included but weren't naming at first. Then SDSU & NDSU were rumored, so I mentioned them. Then the official release came out saying what that he won't get a release to a school on there schedule for next year.

The statement from Iverson's AAU coach that he wants to go to a school that will enhance his ability to play professionally would lead me to think that Colton will end up at a bigger DI program. You wouldn't think that USD and the area DII schools would meet this qualification.

"Just the facts Jack", as Bill Murray stated in Stripes. Where do we go to see the offical release from U of Minn?

Colton was at the Liebrary last night, he stated to a big crowd of guys that he is not going to SDSU or USD, and surely not Augie. He said he liked Boots and Biliter, but didn't like Nagy.

That is just strange to me. If he competes in the Big 10 then plenty of eyes will see what Colton has to offer. It'd make sense to me to continue in the same program and work your butt off to showcase yourself in your senior year. The path he has chosen will force him to sit out a year and potentially learn a whole new system.

Obviously not everything is peachy in Iverson's eyes or he wouldn't be leaving. I wish him good luck wherever he decides to go unless its to our junior school to the south.

quoting for the statement, not intended at bigticket1

Enhance his ability to play professionally????? He was a marginal player at Minnesota. Was he not utilized properly, maybe? Was he just not as good at thought, possibly? Let's look at a Minnesota native who played in at Kansas and was a high draft pick...Cole Aldrich. Similar make-up as Iverson, but was a top notch player at Kansas. He's been in the developmental league more than he's been up with the OKC Thunder. I don't think going pro should be a high priority for Iverson. Maybe Eurpean leagues would be realistic, but NBA...he should wish he had a couple more years of eligibility.

Here's a transfer thought....Minnesota State Mankato. DII Final Four this year. Great coach. He'll get some good exposure being on a nationally ranked team next year. Heck, might even get a run at a National Championship. That might be a good place to look.

We always wish the best for young people no matter the situation, but sometimes reality is a bitch. There's going to be a ton of rumor and inuendo around Iverson until he lands, and then a ton of expectation from people who shouldn't be putting any expectations on the kid. Let him land where he lands, play out his eligibility, GRADUATE, and move on. If he plays a few years of pro ball, great, but focus on the long term future.

                      Re: Colton Iverson

I hope it turns out well for Iverson. He has deep roots at USD (I discount posts by "Just in the Crowd"). He may be able to stand out for the 'Yotes and NBA scouts are familiar with the Summit League.

Catch em all's speculation about Mankato is interesting. Good program, good coach. Iverson would be the 'big fish in small pond' guy and that would attract attention.

News reports state the terms of his release include: can't play for a Big 10 school or schools on Minnesota's schedule. On the second restriction -- hard to tell the full extent of that limit. I cannot find a confirmed 2011-12 schedule for Gophers nor can I find the schedule for 2012-13. Since Iverson would have to sit out the 2011-12 schedule (assuming he goes to a D-I program), does the second restriction refer to the 2012-13 schedule? Probably that's spelled out in the release which the media has not seen.

Creighton's not a bad guess. In the region. Good program in a good conference.

This year's Bluejay Roster listed a 6-11 freshman. I didn't follow Creighton and have no idea if the guy played, was redshirted etc. Next big guy was 6-9 soph (also a 6-9 senior listed but he'll be gone).

Dang my big chance to score comedy points and I blow it. I believe there is a line in the movie during his enlistment interview where he is asked if he is a homosexual and Murray's character replies, "No but I am willing to learn." Back to Colton. Seems a little unusal to be leaving a good bb career. Whatever his reasons I wish him the best.

I have to agree with Catchemall.

In the words of Jim Mora, "Professionally? Professionally? You've got to be kidding me, professionally? I just he gets a chance to start!"

Europe or "minor league" ball maybe. Maybe he would continue to develop. If he isn't good enough to be a starter on a very mediocre (being kind) Gopher team then I'm pretty sure that making an NBA roster is a vitual no chance.

Enjoy your last year in college and study hard so that you have what you need in case the pro thing doesn't come through.

                              Professionally?

I don't know if this has been talked about, but I hope the fact that the Gophers now have an open scholarship doesn't come back to bite us. I know the Gophers had some interest in Jerrell Crayton and there is also that other "rumor".
