Not dissimilar to the SF Events Center situation, is it?

I believe Dave Mavity has struck a chord with this Rabbit fan. Living in Rapid City, one has to use caution in even letting the kids play Cowboys and Indians.

I thought he makes a valid point.

          I don't.

Indian names do not preserve Indian culture or Indian history.

He misses the whole point of the matter. When the NCAA issued the ruling they said they had to get tribal approval. The tribe doesn't want to approve the name, and therefore they have to drop it.

Do I think a select few native american activist are way to gun hoe about getting the native names off of everything, yes, but it is a totally different deal then this.

I understand your perspective and respect your opinion(s). Perhaps I brought this dog into the wrong fight.

My thought of his perspective has more to do with the outcry when we killed Osama Bin Laden and the dismay that was voiced regarding using Geronimo within the codename.

Ouch. Guess the Summit isn't the only conference concerned with UND's nickname.

I recommend you read the letter from Fullerton to Kelley.

For once political might, has to take a step down. The ND Legislature WAS mighty and high when they passed this law not knowing that they were screwing themselves. I am rolling on the flour laughing my A$$ OFF.

The Big Sky is now conveniently positioned to dump UND -- I wonder if a few of the conference Presidents second-guessed the decision to invite UND after USD went with the Summit League and MVFC. Now they have an "out", one conveniently provided by the ND legislature.

I never thought of it from that angle, but it's very plausible. I am so dumbfounded by the emotions that these UND people have about a simple logo. Hypothethically, if some one in SD could present a good case to change the Jackrabbit to Ramblers or something else, would I really care that much? I sure would not, as the mascot has changed but not the institution that would continue to offer the same quality education is still in tact.

It will be interesting to see the reaction out of Senator Al Carlson from Fargo, he is the legislative leader who started the bill. It aint over until its over. Carlson is a big time NDSU supporter too, so was he clairvoyent enough to see what would happen if they passed this goofy law about the logo? I am beginning to think he was.

I wonder if Kelley asked the Big Sky to send UND this letter. I think the UND administration is upset with the legislation, and now has formal letter on record to demonstrate the damage the legislation has done.

Reading the Fullerton letter, it has taken many by surprise. If you read the Bisonville board and the SiouxSports.com board, you find quite a few surprised reactions. What we don't know are the substances of several private telephone conversations and in person conversations. Most CEO' s do know how their boards are going to react and sometimes they are taken by total surprise. This may be one of those times. Yeah your thoughtful notion might have legs.
