Re: South Dakota High School Football Championships
800,000 & seven football classes! Are you kidding me. First and formost three classes in nine-man is a joke. Two nine-man classes. Maybe, but one class seems to be the number I think works the best.
If you think SF is to dominant the answer is to not create another class. If the "smaller" schools in AA don't like it get better. If the SDHAA wanted to make a change move the bottom six of AA to Class A and the bottom six of Class A to Class B.
The other evening I received an email about old times. One of the quotes in this email stated - "Remember when everyone didn't get a trophy and kids actually got cut from teams and their parents would treat it as a learning experience."
Re: South Dakota High School Football Championships
well the ESD got what it wanted... how abou this changing in 5 yrs like SF and RC having to drive across the cross state to play eache other...
I don't get why the smaller AA schools/parents/fans whine about this. (well actually I do but I don't want ned rep for speaking the truth) it's a cryin shame.

Yes, three 9 man classes and 7 classes in the state of SD is wrong, but I'm going to go ahead and guess that you are from Sioux Falls just by judging from this statement.

Re: South Dakota High School Football Championships
Wasn't that long ago that only OG was from sf who was competing for titles. Pierre wateron yankton a lot od esd schools were state powers. Just recently has it changed. And most likely will change again. Worst thing I think sdhaa is wanting to move all basketball levels to sioux falls for championships. For sdsu that would be horrible. We would never get a womens toruney session which would be more important for SD then all levels in one city. Hope the sioux falls sports athority is against it. Its best to rotate and benift all of the state for the finals.
Back to football. If small schools can't compete consolidate athletic programs. Sorry to small town fans....but when the state champ beats teams 60-0 etc and only gives up ehat 50 points all years. What ever it was that's rediculous.

If you're from SF and grew up in SF(which I believe you are)...leave the "consolidation" talk to people in the small towns. You have no idea what you're talking about. I moved my family to my small hometown from SF 5 months ago after being away for 18 years, and I had the same arrogance as a lot of people from SF. Until you live in a small town for a period of time...again...leave the "consolidation" talk to them...it isn't your problem.
It probably will start to happen...and don't think I'm against it, but it has to be at everyone's pace...not the pace of the citizens of SF. End of Rant.

First of all, the Sioux Falls Sports Authority may or may not have anything to do w/ the HS State Tournaments. Secondly, why in the world would the Sioux Falls Sports Authority, if indeed they got involved, be against Sioux Falls hosting all of the state championships? Do you understand why the Sioux Falls Sports Authority was created?

Umm because if Sioux falls wants to host a womens ncaa tourney session it probably needs the SF sports athority to make that happen. So if girls and boys all classes are in sf I would imahine that would create some major conflicts. If all classes play in SF kiss good by ever hosting an ncaa event ever.

Go Jacks!!
Yep I am from the big city and appartently am not allowd to talk about small towns. The issue is its a business and if there is an issue with being competitive its not that the big schools are getting better but small towns are lossing kids. Flat out just not enough to compete. We should be eliminating claases not making more. Why not make a 8 or 9 class so all those school who consolidtaed can break apart and have their own class ans teams again. Then everybody can feel good about it.
This topic is about all classes and effects all citys so why don't you save your small town attitude like you guys are the only ones allowed to talk about it. Having every small town with its own struggling program helps nobody. Shore up the compititon and eliminate a class fixes a lot of problems the sdhaa is dealing with. You might not like it thas fine but it imo the truth that needs to be looked at.

The SDHSAA state tournaments are not set in stone and get get changed (which was stated by the board members at the meeting yesterday). So if (key word is if), SF Sports Authority ever made a bid to get a Women's NCAA Tournament they would probably pick up the phone, email, and/or text the SDHSAA that they were looking at gaining the Women's NCAA tournament. I would guess if SF did secure a Women's Tournmanet they would work w/ the SDHSAA to make sure the new events center would be open for those dates.

I would hope that both groups have long term plans so they imo should already be in discussions about future goals. Otherwise I see a lot of problems and red tape that will get in the way if all classes move to sf. I also see a lot of other towns having issue with it also. Rapid and aberdeen who host currently would probably miss getting those teams coming to town.

SDHSAA schedules 3-yrs out but as they said in the meeting yesterday things change and they didn't even know if the new events center would have open dates or not. I wasn't arguing about the other towns not getting the events (I empathize with the Aberdeens, Watertowns, etc.). I was questioning why you would state that the SF Sports Authority would be against SF hosting all of the tournaments (and you gave your response, which I now understand your thinking).

It seems to me that, given the Events Center, the Arena, the new Skyforce facility, and the Elmen and Stuart centers, that Sioux Falls has plenty of venues to simultaneously host an NCAA event and all six of the state basketball tournaments. It would be a zoo and accommodations would be an issue, but it would not be impossible, I think. Alternatively, you figure out how to put the SDHSAA events in Rapid City, although I'm not sure RC has the facilities--the other town that might from a facility point of view be able to handle it might--just might--be . . . Brookings, with Frost Arena and Swiftel (BB capacity 4,850), and maybe the BHS gym. Aberdeen, between the NSU arena and the Civic Arena might be able to do it, too, if you're willing to stretch the event out to four days and start playing the games at like 9 or 10 am--you put eight games a day in two venues, you can (barely) fit six tournaments into four days.
But this is a thread about the ridiculousness of seven football classes in SD, right? Why, exactly, are there THREE nine-man classes? There are THAT many schools with less than 112 students that it really makes a difference? (If the answer to that is "yes" then that's an entirely different problem.)
I get, I guess, why a 450-student school might not be real happy about trying to compete with a 1600-student school, but wouldn't a better solution would be to simply let schools self-select which level of competition they choose to attempt? Seems to work pretty well in college athletics. Require the biggest eight to play in the upper class, require the smallest sixteen (or pick a number) to play in the lower class, then let everybody in the top half of whoever's left in the middle decide to play in the middle class or to move up, as their resources and ego allow/require.
Problem solved, without the ludicrous addition of a fourth 11-man class.
