Congrats jackmd. I thought that SDSUFAN might win the prize for the first to jump on me for expressing this opinion. I merely agreed with sdman insofar as his point went, much in the same way that my initial comment in this vein was intended. By expressing a personal opinion as to how the D1 move might affect me personally, it was not my intent to isolate my opinion in contrast to the betterment of the university and the state of SD. I do agree that the move holds tremendous possibilities in that regard; on the other hand, merely verbalizing thoughts about good things from the past should not be construed as whining or naysaying. Our association with the NCC is now over (as the NCC itself will soon be). That does not mean that the once great NCC was bad for SDSU.

As to chastising/whining, neither apply with me because I don't get that worked up about this whole thing. I come here for information and amusement and let whatever comes my way slide right off my broad shoulders. 8)

I would beg to argue your last point but its not worth it. As you know I meant no harm by my comments, just sarcasm. I to begin to feel some yearning for games of the past, but then I look at the future now as compared to the future then and there is no comparison. That sense of yearning is replaced by an all out feeling of joy and pride. SDSU has taken a giant step forward.

I overheard this somewhere the other day when someone was faced with those who said/say its crazy for SDSU to move to DI: (KFAN listeners/movie buffs will recognize)

You're right, it's crazy. In fact, it's even worse than that, it's nuts. You wanna really nutty? I heard of a couple guys who wanna build something called an airplane, you know you get peoplehear something to what about breaking the sound barrier, or rockets tgo in, and fly around like birds, it's ridiculous, right? And o the moon? Atomic energy, or a mission to Mars? Science fiction, right? Look, all I'm asking is for you to just have the tiniest bit of vision. You know, to just sit back for one minute and look at the big picture. To take a chance on something that just might end up being the most profoundly impactful moment for humanity, for the history... of history.

I went to the SDSU-USD basketball game in Vermillion last year and sat near several SDSU students who heaped loads of unnecessary abuse on Josh Mueller and anyone that walked by wearing a red shirt.

Josh Mueller is deserving of the all the abuse he gets from fans.

I am for the move to d1 and think it will work out in the future. My point is that I have been going to on avg 3 away fb games a year and the same number of bb games, for almost 45 years and this year it is different. Times change but I really miss the old regional rivalries. Gave me an unbelievable chance to bond with my kids by taking those driveable trips with them which are no more. This year on our away dates I have actually gone to a couple of Augie games which I never did in past unless we were playing Augie. But no I will never get so desperate for fb to go to Vermillion to see a game when we are out of town. Hopefully we can develop a few regional rivalries as time goes on in D1. But for right now it is great to be doing well in d1aa fb but I still miss the great trips and some of the rivalries. Obviously NDSU will be a nice rival in the future but hopefully we can have some driveable rivalries in bb like with no iowa or creighton or maybe even minnesota.

I will say this, I am a lot more interested in SDSU football this year than I was in any previous year. The stage seems smaller, the actors greater, and there seems to be something to fight for in the future. We're in a better place, for certain. SDSU BB will always get most of my attendance dollars, but I've attended more games this year than I have since I was in college in the 80's.

Keep in mind that those "driveable trips" will come back once we are more established in D-I.  You would just being going to the Cities to see SDSU play the Gophers rather then then going to Mankato or St. Cloud.  You could be driving to  Omaha to see SDSU play Creighton rather then UNO.  You could be driving Cedar Falls to see SDSU play Northern Iowa, etc.

It is ok to miss the NCC and it's glory days but the future is so bright you gotta wear shades!  8)

Augie??  USD?? Old rivals..yes- key word being Old. I was fortunate enough to be in Mumford Stadium in Baton Rouge the night we beat Southern. Take the most exciting D2 game you ever saw and multiply it by 100-thats what that game meant-finally real college football. You can keep the memories of the past but SDSU's future is much brighter than the dim lights of D2.
