When this season started, I had high expectations and thought the Jacks would be rolling. They just seemed to come out slow and I wondered what was going on. I realized they're still extremely young and inexperienced relative to the other programs and just chalked this season up to another work in progress building to the bigger program goals. Our program just doesn't have the old, experienced veterans that the other top programs have...especially in 2022. Then, they kind of turned things around and started hitting their stride mid-season. I don't know if other programs were sand bagging or we really were just wrestling really well. Either way, we climbed in the individual rankings and I got excited again and all fired up for the post season. Well, the post season happened and just look at the disappointment on this board. I have been trying to figure out if it's overreaction by fans or underperformance by the wrestlers/coaches. I really think it's overreaction. Considering the season as a whole, the ups, the downs, the guys probably finished about how they should have. I have confidence in the staff and wrestlers and program overall to continue to improve and really impress all of us.

1) so if clay would have pulled the upset in the bloodround (r12) against sebas (Sebastian Rivera), it would have guaranteed him 4 more team points for an 8th place finish which would have pushed SDSU’s place from 44th to a tie for 34th. Would that have helped your feeling about the team placement?
2). Did you happen to watch any of SDSU’s matches at the Big12 or NCAA tournament? Or are you basing these performances off the box scores.
2) Yes, I paid for ESPN+ and everything.

The end of the year performance hurt the coaches and athletes a lot more than it does any of us on this forum. You can be assured they are trying to figure out what led to the subpar performance at Big 12 and NCAA. The overall performance was not terrible but certainly should have been better.

I don't know how you can see the national tournament anything other than a major disappointment. Zero AA's, Carlson and Sloan losing first round. Sloan and DeVos not being able to beat wrestlers seeded 1 seed above them to avoid elimination, etc"This is your life and it's ending one minute at a time." -Tyler Durden

Our disappointment is a lot less than the student athletes and coaches involved. If you want to complain about performance that's fair, if you are truly involved in the program. If you're just a keyboard jockey that uses "wrestlestat" and flo rankings to judge performance move along back to the Minnesota board where they are MAD on a daily basis. If you want to help the program, support the JWC and their events. If you're not supporting them, you have no place here to be MAD. See you all at the next JWC event! BTW the next one should be the golf tournament, there will be multiple ways to support even if you can't golf. Wombat I'll put up a pin prize if you will?

I think we need to put ourselves in their shoes. Do you think that Coach Hahn wants to come back from Detroit having massively undershot his own expectations and hear from people that the team's performance was anywhere near in line with our expectations of it? Do you think that Tanner Sloan wants to hear that it's perfectly reasonable for him to lose to Thomas Penola? I'd be offended if someone said that to me after losing when I knew that I should have won, I know because I've been there. The most bothersome posts in this thread as I read it aren't the ones that express anger and disappointment, they're the ones that express the idea that they must not have been that good after all. If you believe in this team, you owe them the honor of your disappointment. Support them, but don't make excuses them and don't alter your expectations based on the worst tournament that they've ever had because I guarantee you that they aren't doing that. I'd be willing to bet that this team is mad, and frustrated, and depressed, feeling all of the emotions that a healthy person experiences when their reality doesn't align with their expectations. If they don't feel this way, if they're content, then there's no growth to be had from this.
