When this season started, I had high expectations and thought the Jacks would be rolling. They just seemed to come out slow and I wondered what was going on. I realized they're still extremely young and inexperienced relative to the other programs and just chalked this season up to another work in progress building to the bigger program goals. Our program just doesn't have the old, experienced veterans that the other top programs have...especially in 2022. Then, they kind of turned things around and started hitting their stride mid-season. I don't know if other programs were sand bagging or we really were just wrestling really well. Either way, we climbed in the individual rankings and I got excited again and all fired up for the post season. Well, the post season happened and just look at the disappointment on this board. I have been trying to figure out if it's overreaction by fans or underperformance by the wrestlers/coaches. I really think it's overreaction. Considering the season as a whole, the ups, the downs, the guys probably finished about how they should have. I have confidence in the staff and wrestlers and program overall to continue to improve and really impress all of us.

      1) so if clay would have pulled the upset in the bloodround (r12) against sebas (Sebastian Rivera), it would have guaranteed him 4 more team points for an 8th place finish which would have pushed SDSU’s place from 44th to a tie for 34th. Would that have helped your feeling about the team placement?

2). Did you happen to watch any of SDSU’s matches at the Big12 or NCAA tournament? Or are you basing these performances off the box scores.
      1) Yes, it is fair to say that, if the wrestlers on the team performed better, I would feel better about the performance of the team. That said, 34th would still be very bad.

      2) Yes, I paid for ESPN+ and everything.

The end of the year performance hurt the coaches and athletes a lot more than it does any of us on this forum. You can be assured they are trying to figure out what led to the subpar performance at Big 12 and NCAA. The overall performance was not terrible but certainly should have been better.

ding ding ding How much work did we put in the wrestling room to sit here and complain. SMH As a fan we have a right to be disappointed but not mad. Our disappointment is a lot less than the student athletes and coaches involved. If you want to complain about performance that's fair, if you are truly involved in the program. If you're just a keyboard jockey that uses "wrestlestat" and flo rankings to judge performance move along back to the Minnesota board where they are MAD on a daily basis. If you want to help the program, support the JWC and their events. If you're not supporting them, you have no place here to be MAD. See you all at the next JWC event! BTW the next one should be the golf tournament, there will be multiple ways to support even if you can't golf. Wombat I'll put up a pin prize if you will?

I don't know how you can see the national tournament anything other than a major disappointment. Zero AA's, Carlson and Sloan losing first round. Sloan and DeVos not being able to beat wrestlers seeded 1 seed above them to avoid elimination, etc

It's noone's business, but I do actually give to the program. It would be a long drive for me to make it to that golf tournament though.

I was pointing out that people were "mad". I too was disappointed as anyone associated with the program would be. I was pointing out the fact that we have no right to be mad.

Major disappointment is a dumb take. This is literally the hardest tournament in the world from the grind of the preseason and regular season to getting through your conference tournament and then ending in a high note. Would of I wished they did better no doubt but the madness is just not understanding. For example the guy that beat clay lost to bergeland (an AA) 5-3. Then got majored by an Olympian on the backside. Yes Carlson lost first round but so did an OLYMPIAN in the same bracket. Then Carlson proceeds to the blood round and loses against the 3rd place Rivera. Then Devos loses to the 4th place now 5x AA in Kemerer on the championship side. Then on the back side loses to Mocco who fell in the blood round 6-3. Neither of them are bad losses. Sloan was the first upset for Hoffman who then proceeds to make the semis and takes 6th and then loses to Penola on a questionable call IMO in overtime so he didn’t even get a chance to answer. Again, would of I liked them to do better? Yes, but to say they were a “major disappointment” is blowing it out of the water.

I think we need to put ourselves in their shoes. Do you think that Coach Hahn wants to come back from Detroit having massively undershot his own expectations and hear from people that the team's performance was anywhere near in line with our expectations of it? Do you think that Tanner Sloan wants to hear that it's perfectly reasonable for him to lose to Thomas Penola? I'd be offended if someone said that to me after losing when I knew that I should have won, I know because I've been there. The most bothersome posts in this thread as I read it aren't the ones that express anger and disappointment, they're the ones that express the idea that they must not have been that good after all. If you believe in this team, you owe them the honor of your disappointment. Support them, but don't make excuses them and don't alter your expectations based on the worst tournament that they've ever had because I guarantee you that they aren't doing that. I'd be willing to bet that this team is mad, and frustrated, and depressed, feeling all of the emotions that a healthy person experiences when their reality doesn't align with their expectations. If they don't feel this way, if they're content, then there's no growth to be had from this.

He acts like we are Oklahoma State with this long proud tradition. We are still in our infancy from almost having the program cut. We are building expectations are growing but to expect multiple AAs year in and year out isn’t having realistic expectations. The only one I was confident in AA’ing this year was clay. I was a bit disappointed but I also thought his character was on full display losing round 1 and fighting his way back to make the blood round before falling to Rivera. That takes a lot of guts but that isn’t enough for some. Sloan was always on the brink IMO. Needed to be his best and from his early season injuries I wasn’t the most confident. I liked devos showing as well even getting the first takedown on Kemerer. Overall, I’m still loving the direction of the jacks especially with some young guns in the line up next year! Knew I should of kept avoiding the message boards

                            I'd rather not dox myself.
