Re: SDSU Vs. Baylor... break it down for me...
Baylor plays a very short rotation (7 or 8 players)
Their starters log a ton of minutes (close to 40)
They lost their best player to an ACL injury in either the 3rd to the last or 2nd to the last regular season game.
Their coach is presently in the hospital with what is believed to be a bad reaction to medication given following a procedure to remove a kidney stone
They won the Big 12 tournament but did not have to face Oklahoma
They came from behind to win two of the three games in the tournament and (if memory serves) won the third game in overtime.
--------
In short, the are mentally as tough a team as SDSU has faced this season. Possibly in D-1 to date.
However, ever since Danielle Wilson went out with the knee injury it's been a question of when the other shoe will drop....
--------
SDSU's advantages are its depth and its flexible style of play. The Jacks have the ability to flat run the legs out from under the Bears.
Unlike tonight's game where the Jacks were physically tougher than the Frogs, the Jacks cannot expect to come into the game against Baylor and out muscle them. It's not going to happen.
It could be a knock-down drag-out fight with neither team able to establish a lead or the Jacks could end up having to hang onto a lead where they couldn't against Maryland.
-------
Thinking about it some more, this could very well come down to coaching and preparation. I would give AJ credit for doing as well prepping SDSU for Baylor as I'd give Mulkey credit for prepping her team to face SDSU.
And then I'd give the Jacks players additional credit for not overlooking the Bears, where even after tonight's game, the Bears might still overlook SDSU.
But with what Baylor's dealing with off-court, I don't know that they'll be able to come up with a game strategy that will work against SDSU, and they may end up looking quite unprepared for the Jacks come Tuesday.....
They may, for instance, focus on stopping the Jacks' offense instead of figuring out how to break through their man defense; they may focus on stopping the three, only to recall (too late) that the conference player of the year and MVP is the Jacks' center.....Last edited by zooropa; 03-23-2009, 01:11 AM.

Re: SDSU Vs. Baylor... break it down for me...
If SDSU plays anywhere near the same level tonight (taking care of ball, making extra pass, tough defense) they win this one by 20 pts. However, if we come out like we did against IUPUI or the first half of the Oakland game we could be in trouble.

Freeport Bahamas, 11/25/06, Baylor 71 SDSU 53
If I'm not mistaken, haven't the Jacks beaten every team they have lost to in the DI era when given a rematch. Bring on Baylor. Here is a link to the previous games boxscore: http://www.gojacks.com/fls/15000/sta...B/07sdsw05.htm

And about those grudge matches:
I don't put that down to the team being motivated by revenge.
I put that down to the team being exceptionally well coached and exceptionally coachable.
I give AJ credit for being able to spot problems in execution when reviewing game tape, and I give the team credit for working their butts off to cover those areas. Hence the one grudge match loss was to a team that was a good deal better than SDSU at the time (Marquette was #23 or thereabouts when they played SDSU).

Re: SDSU Vs. Baylor... break it down for me...
The jackrabbits get a chance to be maybe the last team in quite awhile to beat the bears as next year they have the number one ranked recruit in the nation playing there ,Britney Griner, a 6'8" shot blocking/dunking machine.I don't think that too many teams will have a chance to beat them , unless they're like the rabbits .
Time to let the dust settle from all those rabbits running aroundLast edited by jackdaniel; 03-23-2009, 07:04 AM.

I don't know if it's mentioned above, but 15 seed UTSA took Baylor into overtime last night. The Jacks should be smelling blood.
P.S. -- I just discovered that there is a whole thread on the Baylor-UTSA game.

Baylor will have 3 starters back from when they played us 2 years ago. We'll have 2 back but Muck won't start this time.
I think Baylor will play man-to-man. They only have 4 players over 5'11". It's not very often that we're the taller team.

Re: SDSU Vs. Baylor... break it down for me...
We are in for a battle against Baylor. Yes, Baylor struggled in their opening round game against a team they were supposed to dominate. But the fact of the matter is, they won and it doesn't mean anything if they won by 6 or 60 pts. This is a new game, new matchups, and from what I understand, their head coach will be back.
We can't expect the Jackrabbits to shoot as well beyond the arc as they did against TCU. TCU stayed in their zone too long as we shredded it apart. When they did go man-to-man we went inside and got buckets in the paint. We showed how versatile of a team we are offensively.
The two things our team does so well offensively that most teams don't do is 1. we push the ball well in transition and 2. in the half court offense the ball moves as quickly as I've ever seen. It is soooooooo hard to defend our Jackrabbits.
Baylor is going to struggle against us defensively because, from what I saw in their opening round game, they don't defend all five spots on the floor consistently. We will take full advantage of that.
