The pacing of the D-1 tournament is almost identical to the D-2 tournament.

Yes, the quality of your opponents is superior in D-1, but then again, if you're in the tournament, the quality of your players is superior as well.

I mean, Mulkey definitely has an advantage in tournament experience, but it's one that IMO, can be easily overstated..... I mean, heck, Mittie had an advantage in tournament experience when his team faced off against the Jacks on Sunday, but which team looked better prepared once the game started?

Mulkey has the 2nd most experience on her own coaching staff! The ast coach was the coach at LA TECH when they were awesome and Mulkey played there. If they play zone like that poster said, we are going to have a great night, b/c nobody can Match up with us in a zone! I am glad there coach is back, NO EXCUSES!

And if they plan man-to-man (more likely) they don't have a size advantage without their injured player. Baylor fans have talked about how we won't have a soft zone to shoot over, but I wonder if they saw the first 6 minutes of the second half Sunday when TCU played man and we scored layup after layup.

I realize Baylor is a much better defensive team than TCU (although TCU was allegedly 11th in the nation in defending against threes) but our team has found a way to score against pretty much everything anybody has thrown at them this year.

I talked to Tyler Merriam this morning. He has a good feeling about this one. He had a good feeling Sunday, too. He said the team is ready for this.
        Holy nutmeg!

I think AJ has the team completely locked in and ready to go. I'm feeling good about tonight too, I think they are on a mission and will keep on keeping on.

Kim Mulkey is the only player in D1 history to have won a NC as a head coach, assistant coach, and a player. That speaks volumes of her overall knowledge of the game. Plus, D2 is not like D1 in that the level of play is not the same. Several D2 games that I have watched seem to be 1 step above a high school game. The strategies and physicality are very different. That's why the NCAA Tournament is so unpredictable cuz most teams do not have any actual experience facing each other, only what they see on film or paper. All you really have to go by is level of competition with your conference, which we are far superior. Both teams have a never quit mentality and will be deeply motivated. It should be a slobberknocker.

No one said D2 is like D1 in terms of level of play, but what AJ said was that the second game was the hardest no matter if it was D2 or D1.

Fran Fraschilla, who has forgotten more about basketball today than you or I will ever know, says the Jackrabbits are as good as anybody in the tournament, save for UConn. Our women's team has defied expectations for years. The expectation you are peddling, that only teams from the top 6 conferences can win in the tournament, just doesn't hold up to any sort of historical analysis. I'll take Fraschilla's word for it that SDSU matches up nicely with even top-notch programs like Baylor. Coach Mulkey seems to think so as well.

I have no doubt that Coach Mulkey is an amazing coach and terrific person. I have no reason to believe that Baylor is anything other than a great program. But our team is here because they're good. We'll see tonight how good they are.

Re: SDSU Vs. Baylor... break it down for me...

We're good, Baylor is good. We have one of the premier coaches in the nation, Baylor has that as well. We got a crappy seed and also got slotted in a very disadvantaged location. I think we can overcome that.

Talked to A.J. and several players last night. They are expecting man-to-man. They are hoping to take advantage of our deeper bench. Push the ball but take care of it. Shoot the open 3's, just because you made 16 on Sunday doesn't mean you can't make 17 on Monday. Penetrate and pass, they are big and they will come to the ball. I don't think they can press us but I hope they try, the quicker the pace the better for us.

Its going to be a blow-by-blow battle and whoever is standing at the end will have earned it. We'll be headed to the pre-game soon. I spoke to quite a few Texas Tech fans today and they are excited for the Jackrabbits. Its really pretty neat to experience. I think this is a team of destiny and I think they feel that way too. I'm thankful I can be here.

As jackmd said, Baylor's good, SDSU's good.

Re: SDSU Vs. Baylor... break it down for me...

I definately expect a very different game tonight. Not to say that the 3-pointers couldn't come raining from the sky again because we have so many good shooters, but playing against a physical man-to-man defense of Baylor, the looks won't be as plentiful and as open as they were on Sunday night. When they're there, we'll have to nail 'em down, and I think that if Macie can take her defender into the paint early and often and pass back out that could set a good tone for this matchup.

I keep thinking of our early game against Maryland. How much has the team grown and learned since then? We were leading that game but Maryland had some talents and some things the Jacks just couldn't totally deal with at that point. I think they've grown and come a long way since then, but I guess we won't know for sure until about 10:30 tonight.

Here's hoping that I'm throwing a Sweet 16 party this weekend, and my oldest daughter is only 5. Let's Go Rabbits! The girls were practicing their cheers in the car on the way to daycare this morning. Gotta get 'em excited early in life about SDSU basketball.

On they Maryland game--they played that game without Macie Michelson on Kristin Toliver--Maryland's best player....

                        Think that made a difference?

                            Thanks,

It is a much more laid back place than another green and gold themed site I could name....

Besides, that seems to be where -all- the discussion of this game is going on.

                                Here's 2-cents for the cause.
Great match-up tonight...this is the NCAA tourney and they should be all good games from here on out.
I'd love to see another 'three-party' like the other night but don't expect that.
Yes Baylor is a better basketball team than TCU...that's why I expect a battle by both team trying to get to the hole. I'm sharpening up my pencil to keep track of free throws and fouls tonight. I expect a physical contest and maybe even a tight whistle...but I do see the Jacks pulling away. Why? Better depth, better consistency, and still that feeling that they are playing with house money...the new kids on the block scenario...got nothing to lose.
Having said that, this team has the guts and experience to go alot farther...I realize there's a tough road to Raleigh to endure yet, but I like to visualize things, and I'd love to see them reach St. Louis!
                                BELEIVE IN THE RABBIT!
