    I paid a visit to BaylorFans.com.

They are showing the Jackrabbits a lot of respect over there. Take a look at the predictions thread for the Baylor vs. South Dakota State game.

Re: SDSU Vs. Baylor... break it down for me...

My take is that Baylor probably deserved a 2 seed, winning the Big 12 tournament. The Big 12 is a TOUGH women's basketball conference. SDSU won comfortably but not decisively against Missouri, who was a bottom-tier Big 12 tier. Don't underestimate how good a conference the Big 12 is.

SDSU is probably better than the 7 seed we got, but we're not a 2 seed, either.

It will take a superior effort from our ladies to beat the Bears. We'll be the underdog, but they certainly aren't a prohibitive underdog. It will also take a better effort from Baylor than they showed against UTSA to beat the Jackrabbits.

As we've talked about all season long, SDSU is EXTREMELY difficult for most teams to match up with--we've simply got too many good outside shooters, meaning that unless a team plays with incredible, sustained defensive intensity, we will have a good shooter open, and the Jackrabbits have shown that they'll find the open shooter.

That said, a cold night from outside in the tournament will mean an SDSU loss, as the opponent will then be able to sag back and take away Warkenthien, Boever, and the dribble-drive to the basket. (Of course, if they do that, there's always the chance that Rotert and/or Young will go off on them.) SDSU needs to hit the 3's to win in the tournament. If they're as hot as they were against TCU, the Jackrabbits are a tough out for almost anybody. (I'm not ready yet to say they're ready to take on UConn, though. )

Yeah, but don't read too much into that Mizzou game. The Jacks played, probably, one of their worst games of the season against Mizzou.

Yes, the Big 12 is tough, but I wouldn't say that this game hinges on the Jacks' perimeter shooting.

In fact, I think that Baylor runs the risk (since they don't have a decided height advantage) of reading altogether too much into that barrage of 3-pointers last night.

The Baylor fans are already tossing around such old saws as "they can't shoot the lights out every night." If Baylor completely overlooks the masterful job SDSU did on defense, and their ability to penetrate to set up the outside shots, they will lose.

        ---

South Dakota State is too good for anyone in the country to beat without a comprehensive strategy.

I give AJ credit for being able to spot problems in execution when reviewing game tape, and I give the team credit for working their butts off to cover those areas. Hence the one grudge match loss was to a team that was a good deal better than SDSU at the time (Marquette was #23 or thereabouts when they played SDSU).
AJ does seem to have a knack for changing a game plan when something didn't work.

I would guess Baylor still runs many of the same sets as they did in 2007 and that AJ could use some knowledge from that game to develop a game plan for this game. I like our chances in this one.

I agree, I would not put too much weight into the first game of the season. Every team is still trying to get everyone on the same page. Teams are different at this stage of the season than at the beginning.

Remember that TCU beat Maryland in the first game of the year. I don't think TCU could beat Maryland again today.

If SDSU played Missouri today, they would win by more than 5 points.

Totally agree. It shows that their fans are very knowledgeable and approach their situations realistically. They are missing their best player, their coach was taken ill. That is a lot to overcome, but as you stated, they are one of the best programs in the country. I think Baylor will bring their A game and we will have to as well.

I really have no idea what will happen. I am nervous though. First time to the tourney with a legitimate shot at the Sweet Sixteen. Crazy.

Only one higher seed won in the early games tonight, six seeds over three seeds, seven Rutgers over two Auburn, can this be a good sign for the Jacks.

                          Good morning Jackrabbit fans,

It is a great day to be a Jackrabbit fan. We are fans of SDSU. We have the Fabulous Jackrabbit women playing for a chance to enter the sweet sixteen against one of the best teams in the County... and ... I believe they will win.

My mission on the day is to finish my 15 hours of work I need to get done and be home in time to watch the game. Well, honestly, I know that if the clock is approaching game-time tonight I will just pack it up and leave... on that note...

GO BIG, GO BLUE, GO JACKS go Kick some Bear Butt

It is a great day to be Jackrabbit. I am amazed at all the buzz about the Rabbits going around in Sioux Falls. Everywhere I go people are talking about the Rabbits. Barber shop, mall, Rookies and even at work (a lot of USD grads here). I am just waiting for the game to start and I also believe the women will be advancing to Raleigh!! I have about 6 or 7 friends coming over to watch the game on the big screen tonight!!

                            LETS GO RABBITS!!!

The RAC is an extremely tough place to play and Auburn is highly overrated. You will see an entirely diffenet team 2nite, mainly cuz our heart and soul (Kim Mulkey) is back on the sideline and Jessica Morrow is healthy as well. We will be more aggressive and hopefully shoot with a higher percentage. Our "X" factor is MJ (Melissa Jones). She by far is the hardest worker on the team and provides an instant spark off the bench. I believe that Kim will approach this game similar to the way we played Iowa St. in conference play. Plenty of matchup zone will some full court press. The 2 main concerns that I have are our horrid FT shooting and our inability to effectively guard the three. I just hope that yall will not shoot lights out 2 games in a row. Should be a good game, but IMO our overall tournament experience (especially coaching) will be the determining factor giving us the W. Plus, don't be surprized if Danielle Wilson makes an appearance. She has not been ruled out.

IN KIM WE TRUST: GO LADYBEARS!!!!!

What's interesting about that is that, from a certain standpoint, playoffs are playoffs.

AJ came to D-1 from D-2 saying that the second game of a tournament is always the hardest--and it's as true in D-2 as it is in D-1 and for the same reason. People are people....

The pacing of the D-1 tournament is almost identical to the D-2 tournament.

Yes, the quality of your opponents is superior in D-1, but then again, if you're in the tournament, the quality of your players is superior as well.

I mean, Mulkey definitely has an advantage in tournament experience, but it's one that IMO, can be easily overstated..... I mean, heck, Mittie had an advantage in tournament experience when his team faced off against the Jacks on Sunday, but which team looked better prepared once the game started?
