Re: A January Stampede of the Bison
NDSU is a scrappy team. They did what you do when you're overmatched: You try to be the aggressor, to be more physical and take the other team out of their routine. Good for them. Katie Birkel, #5, is a very tough player. I was impressed with her toughness and effort, although she did commit a lot of turnovers. I think NDSU has a solid new coach. I'd say they're a program on the upswing after a couple of un-NDSU-like years.
The fact that the Jacks could play perhaps their worst game at home this year and still come away with a 16-point win against a solid conference foe is a good sign.
The crowd was great, but the nature of the game surely limited the crowd's effect on things. Lastly, I'd like to have that referee crew every game. Sure, you could argue with some of their calls (letting Rotert get slammed to the floor wasn't good) but generally, they let them play. I much prefer that to games with some Summit crews that become free throw shooting contests.
