SDSU recruit Rachel Walters scored 34pts tonight in a tough 65 to 59 loss to #3 ranked SF Roosevelt.

On a side note the game was delayed 50 minutes due to some smoke that was detected and the fire alarm going off. The gym was emptied out until the fire department could check it out. Nothing was found and the game resumed.

It was interesting to see on TV's twitter that the Jacks are looking at some JUCO point guards. I wonder if one of them is Sam Lynn of Minnesota West in Worthington who is playing in their state tournament this weekend, and has a real chance to be Minnesota player of the year.

I would go for the best players in the regions that aren't commited to someone else. They keep statistics on every player and have all-region players named at the end of the season. They are the best chances at succeding in Div 1 basketball.Would definately look for someone who is a pg who is quick and a good ball handler who doesn't turn the ball over who can drive and dish.Would really be nice to get a juco All-American PG.Good 3 pt shooter and fg% a plus.Maybe Miss Lynn fits this profile?(not the All-American part, but the rest)

Yeah, recruiting kids that aren't committed is probably a good strategy.

Following in the tradition of past SDSU standouts...

Rachel Walters was awarded the Spirit of Sue award at the AA's this past weekend. (Other winners included Ketty Cornemann and Jennifer Warkenthien)

I think Steph Paluch and Jill Young also won the award. It was nice to see 4 former winners handing out the award to Rachel on Saturday night.

Did Jill Young win the award? What year was that? It would have been the B tournament because she played for Mitchell Christian. I still remember when she broke the record for most points scored in a girls high school career. I remember the whole game stopped and everyone started cheering. It was great! Sorry to get off topic there

Jill would've and should've won it, but Mitchell Christian did not qualify for the state tournament during her senior year and it is by tradition, a senior award. I've always wondered whether or not they should make it for all seniors regardless of state tournament teams. North Dakota has a similar award for each class: senior athlete of the year and is given to a senior regardless of whether or not their team made it to state. Indiana gives a Mental Attitude award only to a player who is playing in the state championship game, so I guess everyone does it different! Anyway, my overall point is that many more SDSU players would've won it but some might not have because their teams didn't qualify for state.

Now that is what I thought. I knew they went to state while she was on the team, it just, unfortunately, wasn't her senior year. But yes, she definitely deserved it. I think they should make the award for all seniors, because some of them work hard enough and deserve the award even though their team didn't go to state.
