Except, say you buy size 16s. Say you gain a bit of weight about the neckular region. Will you buy size 16s that make you feel like you're suffocating? Will you buy 16-1/2s from the same company, or will you buy the 'relaxed fit' 16s that another company is making?

It's more flattering to the ego, IMO, to keep buying 16s, even if that's no longer a proper size....

Does anybody know what Shaunteva Ashley's neck size is?

no, but she has a good stat line.

I think she would be a great choice for the open schollie. red shirt her and that puts 2 years between here and a few of the other 5"9' guards that we currently have. She is a local product and seems to be deserving of a chance with a schollie, not sure if she would walk on.

            Shaunteva Ashley leads again:

Congrats to Shaunteva on hitting 1000 points and leading her team to a conference championship!

We have plenty of guards. And there are always more out there every year. What this team needs, with Cala leaving, is another post presence.

I don't really see an 6"2 posts or so who are good enough to take the open scollie. Ashley on the other hand would be a great addition and a quick guard which we also need. Plus you red shirt her and then there is a 2 years between her and the current freshman guards.

I agree we need a post but some times you have to take the best available player regardless of position.

There have been many posts on what to do now that Cala's scholarship became available. Below I've listed our 2010-2011 roster by positions. Obviously players on our roster aren't pigeon-holed into just one spot as many can play multiple positions (example would be Rotert plays anywhere from the off guard to the power forward for us). As it's been reported in the newspaper, AJ is looking for a difference maker (regardless of position).

                  2010-2011 Roster
                  Point Guards
                  SR-Michelson
                  SO-Paluch
                  FR-Boever

                  Wings
                  SR-Rotert
                  JR-Young
                  JR-Johnson
                  SO-Eide
                  RFR-Heiser
                  FR-Waytashek

                  PowerForward
                  SR-Schuttloffel
                  SO-Dietel
                  FR-Strop

                  Center
                  JR-Sunnarborg
                  SO-Lingle

I think with the interchangeable parts on that roster, any position could be justified to be given a scholarship. Those who say we need a post could be right. But many times depending on the opponent we play with only one post or power forward. This is not meant to take a side, just to show number of players at each position.

                    S. Ashley is very athletic and an excellent basketball player. Wherever she chooses to play at the next level she will likely be a very good addition to that team. I would find it hard to believe if someone told me AJ was not interested in her. That said, how do we know she wants the challenge of finding her place on a team like we have at SDSU?

Some of the posts on here seem to infer that individuals other than AJ know more about evaluating high school athletes and that someone has made a major mistake by not securing this player with a scholarship. I'm pretty certain its not that simple.

My guess is that Boever will redshirt. Just recently she had knee surgery for a torn ACL. Im guessing she be better off with the extra time off the court rehabbing.

I heard from her teammates that she is planning on going to Augie and will announce after the season.

We need a solid post this next year. Losing Cala and Boever after this year and shuttofel after next year...The reason we aren't as good this year is because of a lack of post up presence...Next year better include some solid big girls

The reason we aren't as good? That can be debated that it's the reason. Wow.

I'm not going to act like I'm in the know or anything about who's recruiting who, but I think SDSU might have made a call to Rapid City Stevens. Justine Blade is the best (available) big girl in the state right now. Her emergence as a force in the paint can be proof through Stevens turn around from a 3-19 team to an 11-7 team (they were honorable mention for a good portion of the season.)

I also think that maybe A.J. and company are going to wait and see how some players perform at the state tournament. Who knows, he might step out of his comfort zone and go the JUCO route. That's what seems logical to me, that's not what I'm saying should happen, but maybe that's why A.J. is remaining mum on the who and what.
