Minnesota lost to Michigan last night, and their next game is against USC, which is very likely another L.

NET rankings update through Jan 22:

    Summit standings:
    SDSU - 41
    Oral Rob - 101
    NDSU - 113
    St Thomas - 218
    Denver - 237
    UND - 239
    Omaha - 255
    USD - 257
    Kansas City - 297

SDSU wins above our current ranking: Creighton 32, Oregon 37,
SDSU wins below our current ranking: Rice 134, Wisconsin 112, Ball St 53, Eastern Wash 210, Montana 187, UNI 80, Oral Rob 101, Denver 239, Omaha 255, Kansas City 297, St Thomas 218

SDSU losses above our current ranking: Duke 8 (if only...). Georgia Tech 20, Texas 2
SDSU losses below our current ranking: none

As discussed above in several posts... different polls having Minnesota higher is reflected in NET as well. Florida State has some similar records vs the quadrants as well. I'd agree with peavy that the D2 games are dragging us down a bit, and the rest of conference play will also do us no favors even if we sweep it. Yotes nearly driving the bus to the bottom of the league is quite the shock this year.

    Florida St - 26, 15-4 overall. Q1: 0-4, Q2: 2-0, Q3: 4-0, Q4: 9-0
    Minnesota - 29, 17-3 overall. Q1: 0-3, Q2: 1-0, Q3: 3-0, Q4: 13-0
    SDSU - 41, 14-3 overall. Q1: 0-3, Q2: 3-0, Q3: 2-0, Q4: 9-0

    --------------------------------------

As mentioned in my similar post in the Men's forum.... The quadrant records in these NET rankings are not simply splitting the 362-team long list into 4 sections and tallying up the numbers. Per this article from NCAA (though slightly dated it seems), home, neutral, and away has a pretty big impact on defining the quadrants.

"Using the quadrant system, which was in its fourth season in 2020-21, the quality of wins and losses will be organized based on game location and the opponent's NET ranking.

    Quadrant 1: Home 1-30, Neutral 1-50, Away 1-75
    Quadrant 2: Home 31-75, Neutral 51-100, Away 76-135
    Quadrant 3: Home 76-160, Neutral 101-200, Away 135-240
    Quadrant 4: Home 161-353, Neutral 201-353, Away 241-353"

I can't seem to find anywhere if those quadrants are set based on ranking at gametime, or if they fluctuate throughout the year as teams settle into their rankings.... but as far as I can tell, the Oregon game on a neutral court aught to have given us a Q1 win... especially if we got a Q1 loss from Georgia Tech.

Something is fishy.... can anyone find a more updated source on NET quadrants?

Jacks earn two points in the latest AP poll. Baylor is 25th with 37 points. Nebraska 26th (35 votes) and Creighton 27th (28 votes). Minnesota has moved up 2 spots following a ranked loss and a near loss @ Northwestern

The women will have some extra time this week to prepare for UND. It is also the Alumni Game. I expect the FHawks to go down. By the way, the Jackrabbits did slip back into first in the Mid Major Poll.

Gophers, Oklahoma St, and Utah all lost tonight. Seems like there has been a lot of shuffling in the top 20-25 spots. Easier conference might help us slide up into the top 25 if those teams keep dropping conference games.

Creighton is better than them and we know how we fared vs them head to head.

My main thing is the post season seed. Hopefully we don't have any blips and can work our way up to a 6 seed. 7/8 seed makes it very hard to get back to a Sweet 16. I'd rather be a 11/12 than 7-10.
It's going to be tough to climb the ladder any higher even if we run the table because of our strength of schedule going forward.

    South Carolina won all phases.

Return matchup at Texas is Feb 9th - should be an epic battle on ESPN.

new AP poll is out and Jacks aren't in it. Minnesota in at #24. Creighton, Nebraska RV. Harvard still RV. Iowa still RV vote with 3 straight losses. Got an 'almost famous' along with Creighton on Eden's poll (she voted for SDSU before, so at least she's still thinking about the team).

Tali Goodman still has Jacks at #23 in her poll (On3 article). Nebraska at 24 Creighton 25

No net movement since last week. They're going to really need to start opening the games up to see any sort of NET movement it feels. Teams with a higher NET like Louisville with good wins will keep surpassing the Jacks with the weak summit schedule.

Latest bracketology has Jacks at dreaded 9 seed facing #8 seed FSU. Winner facing USC

also ty oldhare for the correction. Forgot there were two good games in Columbia, SC this weekend (men hosted #2 Auburn and lost 66-63)

Minnesota and Nebraska won too unfortunately, and they may steal some of the spotlight for a bit. Iowa has lost 3 games this week and will surely drop out.

A reporter who once tossed us a vote called it the hardest poll yet. Linder came out with his (p1)(p2) and has Creighton in there, which I think I'm okay with if it comes to them, Minnesota, or Nebraska.

Just to put into perspective how good the top 25 ranked P-4 teams we lost to are , namely TX, Ga Tech, & Duke, and I also included the Jacks as I went through each of the 26 statistical categories looking only at the top 1-50 evaluated, and you will be surprised at the results (or maybe not). No surprise Texas showed up 20 times in the top 1-50 results, 5 times being a top 1-5 team in a category, 2 times at #1, 1x at #2, 1x at #3, 1x at #4.That's an astounding feat and just shows how much of a well rounded team they are , practically no weaknesses to speak of. Similarly Ga Tech was in the 1-50 group 17 times and Duke 14, we showed 5 times. Granted, it was OOC games for the most part, with the P-4 teams playing down some of the games and non-P4 teams playing up for the preperation to get better for their respective Conference games, especially their Tournaments and the AQ that goes with winning their ConferenceTournament.

Also the more times they hit the top 50 , the bigger was our defeat when we played them , in order, Tx, Ga Tech , and Duke. I think we played Duke very close and if we caught a couple breaks we had a fair chance at winning , maybe a good chance. Ga Tech we played them pretty well I think, we played a respectable game for the most part. Texas was a home game for them, and we didn't fare well , but I think we are still integrating new players and figuring out rotations and getting things just right to be the best team we can be, not an excuse, we lost by a lot, but I think they are a final 4 team, in fact, all 3 could reach that as we all know, anything can happen in March. Our real goal is improving to be better yet, and if we get into that 1-50 group , even top 75 /100 more often and shore up some of our weaknesses, we will be . That's not a lofty goal, that's a reasonable goal. To summarize, as most have alluded to already, we had a pretty good season so far....Go Jacks!!

5 votes in the Coaches Poll. Oregon has a NET of 35 putting the neutral court game in Hawaii right on the edge of a Quad I game making the Jacks 1-3 in that quadrant.
