I think the real turning point for Mesa was when she needed to inbound a ball and there was nobody there to inbound to. She yelled almost angrily “Hey!” to get a guard’s attention. From that point on she did not look at the bench when she knew she had messed up. Her head was totally in the game. I’ve been waiting to see that moment.

Indeed her stats show she was in the game. These are some gutsy women.

The coaching staff was pursuing someone in the portal. When the player had it narrowed down to SDSU or another school, the NIL reared its head and money was the magnet. I am guessing that there is a limited number of portal players that are approached by AJ. I would suggest those who are concerned about the coaching staff snoozing on the job take that energy and turn it into NIL cash for the WBB program. Hopefully the women have enough men to practice against with intentions of reducing turnovers. The return of Paige should help that later.

AJ might be the best coach in the NCAA. He's that good. He does more with less than any other coach. It's easy to say he should have brought in a player, but bringing in the wrong player is worse than being short-handed.

There are so many sayings that come to mind with this information, but I think the best is "Good to Know".

There is a player already on campus who has experience in an elite program who could be available in about a week after the Jacks VB season is finished. 6'5 Sydni Schetnan played both sports at Louisville before transferring to SDSU. Have no idea if AJ or Schetnan would have any interest in this, but who knows in an emergency one year situation. Watched some of the VB game last night and she certainly showed good athleticism at 6'5.

There was reportedly interest there months ago.

in just 18 minutes!!! that is last year Kallie type of boards per minute but with 4 of 6 shooting. Mesa has always been an excellent athlete who has shown LOTS of potential. feels like it could be a lot of fun this year to see her get a much bigger opportunity to see how that potential can develop

Maddie M also 4 of 6. and she plays every second so hard!! also only 2 turnovers in over 30 minutes. definitely feels like 1 board in that amount of time is going to be rare for her. she was a good rebounder last year

7 of 12 as a team from 3!!! will be very very nice if we can shoot over 40% let alone 50. that will give Brooklyn plenty of space inside. most games we lost last year, that type of shooting would have been the difference

by far the biggest negative was the turnovers. and it is TRUE and simple to point out that Tori and Ellie had 6 and 7, but this was the first game without Paige. neither one of them is a true starting PG. ellie is a combo guard / backup PG and Tori is a combo wing / power forward who is talented enough to competently play EVERY position on the floor if circumstances call for it. i trust that they will get better, BUT if they can be even around 4 TO a game that is probably acceptable given all the circumstances. and that would have definitely been good enough to win the game last night
Maybe this is where Isabel can help out, did someone say she's a PG, assume she's then a good ball handler, if so, she had like 5 steals a game avg in HS or something like that, crazy high, I know that won't carry over to high Div 1 play, but even one steal in her limited minutes would be great if she can adapt well enough to better athletes and can limit her own TO's. This is going to be an Intriguing season to say the least, but we definitely will be in the hunt for the SLT auto-bid come March as we continually get better. This has the "the little train that could" children's story written all over it. UT Martin up next, another team that will be gunning for us.

Paige will be back soon. Sounds like we signed a young guard for emergency time... Shetnan would be a great stop gap, even if it's only for a year.

Yes, we're thin. But they should be fine... as long as we don't lose any more folks. (Kind of got hit hard hard with 'done for the season' this year already)

I heard second hand that Schetnan isn't interested in playing basketball. I hope that's not the case, but the source chain appears to be pretty strong. Maybe she'll change her mind in the future. I'd love to see her play basketball before her years at SDSU are over.
