  • Next Years Roster

Well its never to early to talk about next year! Which players do we expect to make plays now that Vogel is gone and who will become our standout player? Which players can we expect to step up? Personally I think Ketty and Maria are going to be a huge tandom for us. I expect Jen to be our standout player and take the crucial shots for us. She just carries herself so well. I'm not sure where the intencity that Vogel brought will come from... possibly Muck???

I don't know that Muck would be our intense leader, she doesn't seem to play with that fire like some of the others. I could easily see Ketty or Verdegan doing that for us though. Getting Stacie Oistad back will be a big bonus and I expect the incoming freshman to contribute alot, especially Michelson and Rotert. Although, I actually wouldn't be too surprised to see one or two of them red-shirt since we already have such good depth and are only losing one player to graduation, only AJ just doesn't seem to like to red-shirt players very often.

I think Verdegan has spent a year watching how a senior leads a team, and will step up bigtime next year. She won't be Vogel, but she'll lead in her own way.

Don't forget about or underestimate Courtney Grimsrud. She stepped up big this year.

Cornemann is by for the most athletic player on the team.  If she can start consistently making jump shots and get herself under control when she drives, she'll be the dominant player on the team.  She was getting a lot of minutes during the WNIT games.

But Andrea will be at the point. Much bigger overall impact on how the entire team plays than the center position, IMHO.

Obviously this teams strenght will be its depth, and athleticism. it will be exciting to watch over the years how they get better and better. The graduation of Vogel will hurt but also will give the rest of the girls a chance to step up and make big plays in her absense. I think this was the start of a long string of WNIT and NCAA tourny appearences for the ladies. I think it will be quiet awhile untill they dont make either tourny.

2002jack you are correct.  ;D ;D ;D I looked up Ketty's stats.  She averaged 17.7 minutes during the season. She played over 20 minutes in all three NIT games.  I think AJ sees the athleticism.  Ketty will be a big time player next year.

                  Re: Next Years Roster

What about Jennifer Warkenthien? When she decides to, she can dominate. She's big and athletic and can score from inside and out and off the dribble. Plus, she's a leader (along with Verdegan). Look for big things from Warkenthien.

I agree that Ketty has great potential and athleticism and really seemed to blossom at the end of the year. Maria Boever has a very quick first step for someone her size and will be a strong player for us. Alison Anderson played more and more during the year and you'll see her get a lot of minutes.

Basically, there's nobody on that team who didn't contribute and didn't improve this year. That bodes very well for the future. I'm anxious to see how the freshmen coming in (particularly Rotert) contribute next year.

                    Re: Next Years Roster

I think we will have a differnet line up next year, besides Vogel. IMO I think AJ will have a tough time not starting both Ketty and Boever! Boever will be the next big thing at SDSU. She is just tough inside! The last ten games she started to play like a player not looking into headlights.

Ketty has that Vogel skill set. I think we should start Verdegan, Ketty, Boever, Wark and Grims!

Oistad and Muck would bring great fire of the bench and we would not miss a beat just like this year.

We will probably see a team that has 3 double figure scorers on this team!

Let me know what you think!

                      Re: Next Years Roster

I feel Allison Anderson is going to be very good for the Jacks in the future. She is very agressive and is has impressed me a lot this year. I agree that Ketty contributed the most this year but Allison was very reliable when we needed her this year. There were a few times this year when Andrea got into foul trouble and Allison came in and played the point without any hesitation. It will be interesting to see if there is a way to get both Andrea and Allison in the game at the same time. That would make us extremely quick.

In a nutshell...the future looks very bright. No doubt we've got big shoes to fill left by Megan, but gives us a few games next year and players will find their roles!

What kind of roles will the incoming freshman play and in what positions will they be listed?

Rotert IMO was the best player in the state this year and that includes Jill Young

Will they be contributing as much as freshman from previous years, or will the depth of the team keep them in smaller roles for now? They all sound like they will be important to the team we could have a lot of minutes spread out over this team keeping legs fresh and rested.
