    Re: Next Years Roster

best college prospect, I wouldn't say that she had a better high school game then Jill Young because Young's speed made her superb... Rotert played well this season being double teamed and tripple teamed... There arn't to many 6'0" girls that can play the 2 in womens hoops I could see her come in next year and play some quality minutes.

Rotert will play the 2-3 and  girl from marshall is a PG and gal from Sioux Falls is a 4-5

Will they be contributing as much as freshman from previous years, or will the depth of the team keep them in smaller roles for now?  They all sound like they will be important to the team we could have a lot of minutes spread out over this team keeping legs fresh and rested.[/quote]

I would say that 2 out of the 3 may redshirt barring any injuries to the rest of the team ro transfers (if any)

AJ doesn't believe in red-shirting players...especially scholarship players.

Jill Young's numbers speak for themself, however Jill is not that quick, she is a great ballhandler and creates seperation with her thru the legs back dribble. High school kid that can do that scores points, does not work that great in college for an undersized guard. Quickness does!

IMO I think we got the player that can play at SDSU!

I agree that Ketty has great potential and athleticism and really seemed to blossom at the end of the year. Maria Boever has a very quick first step for someone her size and will be a strong player for us. Alison Anderson played more and more during the year and you'll see her get a lot of minutes.

Basically, there's nobody on that team who didn't contribute and didn't improve this year. That bodes very well for the future. I'm anxious to see how the freshmen coming in (particularly Rotert) contribute next year.
I think Warkenthien can be a little hesitant at times, I don't look at her as someone who wants to put the team on her back, just my opinion.  I've seen glimpes of that in Ketty, she wants to take that big shot, no fear in her eyes.  Boever brings alot to the table, but needs to calm down sometimes and take better care of the ball.  Again just my opinion, but she tries too hard to make things happen sometimes, I don't think the game has slowed down for her yet.

Totally agree with your last statement, big improvement in alot of players over the course of this season.  Amazing to think how young our team is and with 3 more recruits coming, even moreso next year.  It can't be overstated how important this WNIT experience was for our team, when this years freshman are seniors and playing for the NCAA's, they won't be surprised by anything.

It seemed like the team (and particularly Warkenthien) sometimes became hesitant and waited for Megan to make plays. When Megan was on the bench, I saw a more aggressive group of young players. I look for Jennifer to step up and make some plays. She did average 10 points and six rebounds a game in 22 minutes on the floor. Give her Megan's 28 minutes, and she might have averaged 14 or 15 points and 8 or 9 boards.

I agree with everyone here who has mentioned Maria Boever as a future star. She's very quick for a person her size.
                Holy nutmeg!

                  Next years projected depth
                  PG - Verdegan / Anderson / Micholson
                  SG - Muckenhern / Helsper
                  SF - Cornemann / Rotert / Meier
                  PF - Warkenthien / Boever / Oistad / Shuttlafel
                  C - Grimsrud / Kratovil / Nielsen

Boever does have a quick step but she is true post and I don't think she can really handle the 3. She would have to completely change her game, (ie, better ballhandling, better shooting, become a slasher, make her free throws) to become a three. Alison Anderson will be good player but she's going to have to work on her shot more, I think she was 4 for 30 in 3 pointers this year. Muck and verdegan will be our best deep threats. I've never seen Helsper play so I'm not really sure if she'll see any clock or not but there is a lack of depth at the 2. The good thing is that all of the SF can play the 2.

                    Re: Next Years Roster

Interesting when you break down the performance of players, based on minutes of playing time, Maria is 2nd in steals, 3rd in scoring and 3rd in rebounding for the Jacks. Not bad for a freshman. No one will replace Megan's intensity, but there is plenty of players who can and will step up to fill her void on the Jack's squad next season.

Maria and Allison are both amazing talents but they don't value the ball enough right now, too many turnovers. Andrea will be the team leader with Jen W. providing plenty of solid minutes. Courtney will continue to be reliable in the middle. The remainder are all very talented. I don't envy AJ. He was able to find the right combo this year but I think it will be a lot tougher next year. We were lucky to start the same players for almost the whole year this year. I hope AJ can do nearly the same next year. I think the continuity helps.

I really think that the lineup will depend on who they play.. If they are playing a big they can stick ketty at the point and rotert at the 2 and so on if they are going small they can go more guard oriented...

I'm thinking that Nielsen goes over Kratovil on this list. I personally think Abby is a better player but she seemed to fall out of favor with AJ as the year went along and Nielsen saw alot more minutes because of it. I honestly think Rotert will play more of the 2 in college. Her shooting ability along with her range will make her deadly

8-) I agree with JackMD that the freshman will need to take better care of the ball and most likely that will take place after their 1st year of play. I made a calulation error, Maria was 1st in team steals per minutes of playing time. Based on performance (minutes of playing time vs. statistics) the (2) spot needs allot of help, as this area is 5th, 6th and 7th best in team in scoring, assists, steals and rebounding. I can understand rebounding, but more production needs to take place in these other categories from the (2) spot. Interestingly, Jen and Maria are 2nd and 4th respectively in assists (per minutes playing time). Do the calculations, you may be suprised as I was at these stat's.

A J has said that Kristen Rotert can play the 2 and if you have watched her play you will see why he said that. She has to get stronger and learn to play the defense required at this level but she can flat out play. As Terry V said in one of his blogs State has no one like her on the team.

Nielson, to me, was the biggest surprise of the year. We knew that Ketty and Maria would be excellent coming in. But when ever Courtney seemed to be struggling, Laura would come in a play excellent. Example, the shot that beat the shot clock against Indiana, right after she came in, and Courtney was struggling. Between Nielson and Boever, the future looks bright for our interior.
