In regard to dealing with the full court press during the Miami game I couldn't understand why the girls on the court would help collect the ball, throw it to whomever was going to inbound it (starting the five second count) then going to their spot on floor to start the inbounds play. It seemed like they were waisting 2 of the 5 seconds to get started.

Watching several of the men's games over the weekend, when breaking the press, they would toss the ball to the official, and the inbounded would wait for the offense play to be set before they would step out of bounds.

The quicker you get the ball in play, the less time the defense has to set up their press. There are different philosophies on how to break the press.

Guebert seemed to do the best against the press. she would just take the inbound pass and take off up the court without stopping her dribble and not allowing the trap and double team.

That did seem an efficient way to break the press. I would wager there has been some attention to this part of the game and it will not be as large of an item tonight because of their improved reaction or Stanford does not throw that kind of a press after the made bucket.

If we have a lead in the 4th quarter you can bet your ass Stanford will press us.

That is a positive thought!! Jackrabbits go into the 4th quarter with the lead.

I like how this team is peaking at the end of the season. Those dark days of February are long gone and the Jacks are playing like they did back in November. It's going to probably take our best game of the season, but I feel like we have a shot tonight.

Whatever happens tonight, this team achieved two primary goals in the past two weeks. Anything more is just icing on the cake.

I think if the Jacks go into the 4th quarter with a lead, they're likely to go ahead and win the game. The pressure (so to speak) will ALL be on Stanford at that point.

I believe I heard (from the infamous "somewhere"--no, no inside information, just a video clip I might be remembering, or misremembering) that one of the team goals was a Sweet 16 berth, so mission not yet accomplished.

Yes,break the press as fast as you can, before they get the trap set ,might even get a layup if it's played right, because they commit so many players into the front court,it's a gamble on their part too,but less of a gamble if you have really quick players who are adept at recognizing when the press is busted and get back quickly.A team has to be aggressive attacking a press, can't be tentative, that only helps them get better positioning for the steal/or trap.

But to their credit, they were getting mostly positive results and made up ground on the scoring deficit so they kept with it.They are one of the best at applying that type pressure in WBB I'd say, they have quick, athletic players, well disciplined into doing what makes their press work effectively. We will get better at handling presses, and ,we are already much better than we used to be.All that being said, I agreee ,Madi handled it the best, she broke up the press and got the ball into our side of the court quickly.

I am about to go dark on cell phone and social media, in an attempt to make until after my daughter's basketball practice. Then we will head home and play catch up on the DVR.
Here's hoping we are bypassing commercials all the way to a Jackrabbit win and a Sweet 16 spot.

I am watching Notre Dame vs Indiana women play and the tidbit the announcers threw out was that the first round game victory by Indiana was the first in 33 years. That reinforces AJ stating that this is a tough gig to get wins in this tournament. Indiana is pushing the Irish as they trail by 4 late in 3rd quarter.
