Yes we have. 2 years ago USD beat us in the semis then went on to win the title. Your prior post was inaccurate with respect to that as well. Amy Williams proved she has what it takes to challenge for a title every year in that game. USD jumped out to a big lead that SDSU couldn't overcome.

I haven't said for a second that SDSU isn't a great program that deserves respect and should never be taken for granted. What I said was that USD is on the same path and at this time is playing better and has to be considered the favorite. They really haven't been challenged other than vs the Jackrabbits and they found a way to win both of those.

SDSU's struggles, such as they are this year, are not all entirely mysteries:

Miller, who was at the beginning of the season our best player by a country mile, is obviously hobbling on a bad ankle, and Young has pretty much lost her 3 point stroke entirely for whatever reason.

The only two seniors on this team both come off the bench, they are not starters. You usually lean on your seniors when the going gets tough. I'll have to say, Ober has started playing like a senior at the end of her junior year, but then, she's been injured and missed games this year too. (For review, the Jacks' roster currently includes 2 seniors, 3 juniors, 5 sophomores (incl. 1 transfer), 4 freshmen. For reference, USD's roster includes 5 seniors, 4 juniors, 1 sophomore, 5 freshmen.)

The other Summit League coaches are not idiots; they know what AJ and the Jacks want to do, and scheme against it. They know what the Jacks want to do at the end of the game, and prepare for it. It's up to AJ and the coaches to adjust and adapt the game plan, and up to the players to execute. A friend of mine noted that SDSU seems to have a habit of losing the 3rd quarter . . . that's a problem with unsuccessful halftime adjustments.

23-6.....our best record since 08-09 you know the team that was something like 33-3. We haven't had one game where we've gotten taken to the house....not one even though we've played TWO top ten teams. That's the first time that's happened since...well 08-09.

Every year the conference grind has some games that maybe are closer than we like (or losses....remember @ Denver last year?). We are going on the road against teams that are intimately familiar with what we do. That's NOT easy.

I'll take this team in Sioux Falls even though some have written them off.

Another note on the expectations of Jackrabbit plays is the play at the end of the quarter when Macy runs the clock down to 10 seconds and attempts to penetrate for the shot or pass has been way too slow with the offense not getting a shot many times. I would believe that the tender ankle contributes to the effectiveness of that scheme. If the Jackrabbits get past the Mastodons, I would expect some small changes to pop up in a probable Jaguar matchup. The 3 losses in conference were not due to any major breakdown. AJ has said repeatedly that the small difference of a few points separate many games to be winners or losers. The Jackrabbits have been on the top side a few times and the down side a few times. I would guess he is not too discouraged with this team yet. It should be an entertaining SLT.

And on a different note: I would sure like to see Lexi can do when the coaches let her loose. Also would like her to play more, and I guess she would take some time from Kerri? I'm likely in the minority that believes this happens almost every year (the conference regression of our team) sometimes I feel like the team is over coached. They look to the sideline to much IMO as if they need permission to just "go". Likely that's just crazy talk but those thoughts do occur, and More so when we are paying tight. I also feel we don't drive the lane nearly often enough.

The third qtr is our lowest scoring qtr in conference play averaging 15.8 pts , in conference games. The third qtr in our non-conference was actually our best qtr averaging 18.8 pts in that qtr during our non-conference portion of our schedule. We have struggled in the third period in conference play for some reason or another. In non- conf we averaged 66.2 ppg and in conf play we average 70.If teams are going to take over the game against us,it'll more than likely happen in the third quarter it would seem,or at least where we've shown ourselves to be most vulnerable.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounded like AJ kept Miller on the bench during the closing seconds of the WIU win. If so, that says a lot about her injury status.

The box score shows she played 23 seconds in the last 1:57. The 23 seconds was in 2 spurts of 11 and 12 seconds. It appears she was in for offense only.

She had 4 fouls, so I think AJ was keeping off defense.

Due to foul trouble. Subbing defense for offense and vice versa.

Where has anyone written this team off?? All we have said is that at this point a 24-5 team who is 2-0 against us has to be the favorite going in the tournament. I think USD is better than us right now, but it wouldn't be a huge shocker if we beat them in the tournament. But USD has the best player in the league and a much deeper bench than we have, so a victory for us won't be easy. This is not like in years past when we had the decided home court advantage, USD will certainly have a fan presence at the game. That's something Oral Roberts didn't have when we upset them in the tourney.

For size and depth, the Jacks probably could have used Chynna Stevens this year. She transferred last year after spending time on the bench. She's on the roster at USD, the University of San Diego, but must not have been eligible to play this year. It will be interesting to see how she'll do at a relatively small, church-affiliated school.

I think our bench is just fine. They aren't scoring but they are defending really well. SDSU's 3 best perimeter defenders come off the bench. All of them have made big shots at some point this season. Palmer, Flaata, and Mieras get spot minutes depending on the match-ups and foul trouble.

USD's bench gives them more scoring with Liveringhouse and Fogg but other than that that no one else scores.

If you look at the stat sheet of the game in Vermillion, USD played 12 but 3 of the players only played 4 minutes while another played just 7.
SDSU played 9 players, 1 played less than 5 minutes, the rest played over 15 minutes.

Liveringhouse (6/7) and Fogg (5/10) combined for 25 of 32 points
Boever (4/9) had 12 of SDSU 15 bench points.

I don't think the game comes down to the bench. It comes down to what team makes the plays in the last minute. Both games, USD has done that.

USD having 5 seniors and 4 juniors seems to help in the poise department.
