The problem is trying to sweet talk one of them to come to SDSU vs. Maryland, Notre Dame, etc. That is the hardest selling point.

Athletic player is more of a prerequisite than height in general. Maryland's Jones and Notre Dame's Turner are both listed 6'3". UConn's Stewart is 6'4". The Jackrabbit women did a fair to good job of slowing down Jones. Turner was not so much controlled. I think we are doing a great job of getting athletes. We just do not have the premier post player. That player does not need to be 6'6". That player may need to be able to dominate with size like Jones or athletically like Turner or Stewart. It is also interesting to note while watching the Maryland support group. They had 15 people in St Thomas as we counted coaches and trainers. SDSU is doing a fantastic job of fielding a respectable WBB team with the current budget. (Also recall the 2011 year Texas A & M won the title with 6'1" Danielle Adams at the post who appeared a bit overweight.)

Add a Oregon State team that missed upsetting ND by one point. Ruth Hamblin (6'7" ?) contributed a lot to that game, and when they successfully lobbed a pass in to her, ND could do nothing to prevent her from scoring, kind of like the 2nd half of our NCAA Tournament game with OSU.

Those type players 6'4 and above are extremely rare and much sought after. If we got one, she'd more than likely have to be home grown and want to stay close to home. That's makes it even more difficult for SDSU to hang on to ,if she's tempted by big name programs too. We're inching up by recruiting Mieras this year and Bultsma next year. Ober and Thompson are really good athletic post players, and you have to admire how well both do against taller defenders.

If I recall correctly ,Megan Stuart schooled and out scored 6'5 Natile Butler when we played Georgetown, she's now on UConns roster.Megan had a special game ,she had very good post moves and could change directions while keeping her pivot foot planted.Whoever teaches the post moves at SDSU's WBB program really does a good job, someone we definately wouldn't want to lose.

true------most likely schools such as sdsu are not gonna be in the running for the top post players in the country, but, keep up with the success and sooner than later, should start getting some looks from some quality post players. one thing to notice, is, those type of players are not as rare as they used to be. although, many are playing volleyball.

I agree that in AJ's offense athletic ability is more important than strictly height. He wants the 4's and 5's to be able to run the floor. McIntyre at ORU last year could be dominant, but having her forced them to play a slower paced game, and she was slow getting back on defense at times. Players like Warkenthein and Maria Boever that consistently could beat their opponent down the floor were ideal players in AJ's system. It will be interesting to see how Mieras develops in the future as at least at this point she needs to be able to get up and down the floor a little faster.

If we expect to go deep in the tournament we better find that taller athletic post that is the diamond in the tough or a project that be developed.

Did anyone notice that Maryland blew out the Gophers 110-77.

110 is a bunch of stat stuffing.

Everyone the Gophers play gets to pad their offensive stats. I've watched a number of their games and they simply try to outscore the other team and play next to no defense. Against Maryland they were casting up three's and making little attempt to get back on defense and consistently got beat back up the floor. And they were not ready when they lost Zahui B early to the WNBA and have had no post presence. If she would have stayed, they would be a top 10 team with the way Banham has come back.

It's a shame that Bahnam won't play in the NCAA tournament. She could have made it multiple times if she went to SDSU

Too bad that she settled for the U of M . We could have used a scorer this year.

I really wanted Carly Wagner to go to SDSU, but she only had the Gophs in her sight. NRHEG alum, several years ago, the Jacks had a player from NRHEG, can't remember name. Carly has the whole package.

I remember watching about her and her coming up through the system at NRHEG as a young player and how much she admired Allison, who evidently made quite an impression with the younger players. It was "what player do you most admire type question" during an interview I believe. She had already committed at U of Minn however.

Also, to go further back in the thread, talking about post players, if Mariah Clarin was even 2-3 inches taller, she would have been unstoppable with her athleticism. Ober is turning into a very good post player also.

Can you imagine Banham and Guebert dropping three's left and right in a game. It'd be fun to watch, as it is, the best three point shooting duo we've had I think would be Jill Young and Kristin Rotert, Waytashek and Paluch weren't to shabby either. We've been blessed with a lot of good solid three point shooters throughout our history.
